We stayed in Erdene's brownstone for 4 nights for a family get-together/NYC sightseeing trip. It was conveniently located 4 blocks from the Metro on a quiet street. The #2 or #3 train gets you pretty much anywhere and everywhere you want to go. The apartment was clean and plenty big for six of us to sleep and hang out comfortably -- we barely used the downstairs TV room. The upstairs bath has a clawfoot tub and about a 14 foot ceiling. The downstairs bath has a LARGE walk-in shower with double shower heads. No problem at all with 6 of us showering in the morning -- all had nice hot showers, whether you were first in or last in. Lots of towels, too. Kitchen is small, but doesn't lack for anything. We only cooked one meal there, ordered in or ate out most nights, but would've had plenty of pots & pans and anything else needed to prepare a full meal. If you're looking for pizza delivery -- Giovanni's was excellent. We also tried the Japanese/Vietnamese restaurant (can't remember the name, but the menu is in the kitchen drawer). That was good, too, plus you get 20% off your first online order. Sylvia's has a great breakfast...wanted to try everything! Didn't have time to go back for dinner, but I'm sure that would've been delicious, too. The Apollo theater is a few blocks away, and Marcus Garvey Park was a nice walk. Erdene has a nice collection of NY-themed art and books. We were able to walk around the neighborhood to see the homes/buildings shown in the book about Harlem architecture. All-in-all it was a great stay. Erdene was very nice and helpful, and a pleasure to talk to -- so much so that we almost missed our train home!!! (Thanks again for calling us a cab for our "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" to Penn Station!!) Our group of six ranged in age from teens to seniors, so it was a great place for all age levels. We would definitely stay here again. (If you go to Little Italy, try Amici II Restaurant on Mulberry Street -- yummmmmmm!!)

Spacious, comfortably furnished and well-equipped 3-BR 2 bath home in a "safe", friendly neighborhood convenient to the 116 metro stop. Our family (3 couples and a baby) stayed 3 nights and 4 days; we were visiting my son who lives a few blocks away, but we spent most of our time touring Manhattan and Brooklyn, so I can't speak to the local (Harlem) attractions. Il Caffe Latte is a great place for breakfast or brunch, and it's located on your walk to the 116 subway. We did takeout from Amy Ruth's for dinner one evening; great reviews all around and it too is walking distance away. The brownstone's owner, Erdine, is a wonderful host...accessible, gracious and anxious to please. I think she was disappointed that my son had planned our agenda because she was ready to share her ideas and suggestions for sightseeing, dining, etc. Everyone enjoyed the accommodations and agreed that we will stay here again.

This was the PERFECT place for my husband and me and our 4 friends! Erdene's property is very comfortable, modernly decorated, and filled with great local art. It's exactly how she described it on the website. No surprises!!! It's right smack dab in the middle of Harlem which was super convenient for us to spend a night down the street at the infamous Lenox Lounge to relax and listen to some great jazz. Times Square and all the hustle and bustle of NYC is just 4 subway stops away. It's only a mile away from the North Side of Central Park! What else could you ask for?!!! Oh I know....an amazing property owner! And we go it! There wasn't anything Erdene did not to do help us feel at home. She got up before 5:30am to meet us after our red eye flight. She helped us with a cabby that spontaneously changed the pricing on our cab ride. And when we got in she took her time to explain where everything was, how to navigate the subways, and a good place to get breakfast after our long flight. She was extremely warm, hospitable, and helped bring a homey feel to our vacation. Thanks for everything Erdene. We would definitely stay here again! Anyone who is considering her rental, just do it. I don't believe you'll regret it! You'll be close enough to the busyness of NYC but far enough to get a quiet night of sleep. :)

We have just departed the Brownstone after 10 days over Christmas and New Year 2011/12. We were 7 adults, 2 couples and 3 singles ( all family) and the house was great for us. Plenty of room to stretch out and get away from each other if need be, but also good space when we all wanted to be together. We love cooking so the very del equipped kitchen was great and we did a fabulous Christmas lunch there! Plenty of stores and markets close by and the neighbourhood is good. Transport is excellent for both subway and buses. Erdene is a great hostess, nothing is too much trouble, even coming to let in some guests who managed to forget to bring their key! :-) She has a wonderful knowledge of the area and very generously offered us to go to Church with her on christmas day which was an exceptional experience. I would highly recommend her brownstone to anyone who wants to be in the "real" NYC and live the real new yorker life. Kate Blake, Sydney Australia.

My family and I recently rented this guesthouse and are still talking about what a great experience we had. The house is impecably clean and has every ammenity you could possibly need. The landlady Erdene is extremely attentive, very fair and incredibly nice. I am originally from NYC and can honestly say that this is my top choice on where to stay with a group of people for any future visit. The neighborhood is also fantastic. Public transportation and Zipcars are within walking distance and so is Central Park. We ate at 5 different restaurants in the area and enjoyed our meals at each one - especially the cafe on the corner. For anyone considering an extended stay in NYC -this location is perfect - book it today - you will not regret it. Thanks again Erdene!! ~ Elina

This brownstone is simply one of the best rental homes I have come across in my travels. My family and I (a group of 5 adults) chose NYC for Christmas this year. Coming from San Diego, Scottsdale & Chicago and not getting to spend a lot of time together throughout the year, we thought renting a house, where we could all stay together was the perfect idea! And it sure was… Not only did this brownstone accommodate us perfectly, it was a beautiful space to stay in. Erdene does an incredible job at keeping the 3 bedroom, 2 full bath, 2 sitting areas, office space (with wireless internet) and full kitchen completely stocked with everything you could possibly need. If you love to cook then you understand the importance of a well stocked kitchen. Erdene has created a great cooking space equipped with everything you’ll need to cook a lovely meal. (Great pots & pans, knives, utensils… the list goes on) The place is beautifully renovated while maintaining its historical Harlem charm. The neighborhood is convenient, safe, close to public transportation – also easy to hail a cab/ car from either cross street – close to several restaurants and café’s and within walking distance to Central Park. I highly recommend a stroll from the house to and through the park… about a 2 hour walk in total at a leisurely pace, but simply beautiful and worth the time. Lastly, I want to comment on Erdene and her accommodating, friendly and truly caring demeanor. Throughout our stay, Erdene made sure we had everything we needed. She is a gracious host. On the last day of our trip, NYC was hit with a snow blizzard which closed down the city, the airports… Erdene not only made sure we were safe and comfortable; she extended our stay in the house to accommodate our new departure dates and for those of us that needed additional days, she found us a new place to stay. (The house was booked by other guests – but had it not been, I am certain Erdene would have further accommodated our stay.) I will definitely stay here again and highly recommend that you stay here as well. We couldn’t have found a better place!

I cannot say enough how much this beautiful home made our Thanksgiving time together last year a memorable one. Having lived in NYC for a few years, it is all about location and ease of access to public transportation. I found this a perfect location for access to everything. Harlem is a beautiful place! We enjoyed local eateries, easy access to groceries, and the brief walk to the subway made it easy to explore the entire city! Also the local bodega on the corner had THE best bacon, egg and cheese on a roll... highly recommend! ;) Thanks to the loveliest hostess ever, she made us feel right at home and we were able to enjoy our week in the city without worrying about a thing! Would HIGHLY recommend for larger groups so that meals and relaxation can be enjoyed together. WAY better than a stuffy, overpriced downtown hotel. Did I mention it was absolutely gorgeous on the inside as well? and extremely clean and well maintained!! A sincere thanks again to the beautiful Ms. Erdene!!

Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for our incredibly friendly and bubbly host Erdene. We were 3 mature couples travelling together and this extremely spacious townhouse had everything we needed for a great holiday. 3 great bedrooms and 2 huge bathrooms, not forgetting 2 sitting rooms as well. Located in a very safe neighborhood and only a short stroll from the 2 subway lines, supermarkets and lots of eating places. Don't want to go out for dinner, then a kitchen drawer is full of take out menus from some incredibly cheap places with a wide variety of delicious food. Why would you pay to stay in an impersonable hotel room when you can have your own home probably for less. We will definitely recommend Erdene's brownstone to anyone we know who is travelling to New York.

And 'the sentence on which we accepted Erdene: fantastic person ready to each of our request! The house is absolutely above expectations: 3 large double bedrooms (one with even a wardrobe!) And the possibility of additional beds. We are two families with two girls each and distribution of rooms was just right as each family had at his disposal an entire floor of the house being ready to duplex. The girls all slept in the same room as the bed very wide. We added one single bed and have a great time! The kitchen is very well equipped with large fridge freezer, oven, toaster oven for toast and much more. The dining area is for 8 persons (six at the table and two on the kitchen counter) and there is also a well-stocked pantry! The bathrooms are large: one with bath and double shower with a very clean and equipped with a large amount of towels and Erdene provides daily withdrawal of those used as the withdrawal of garbage so that the house was always tidy! Theres also a major corridor Erdene has equipped a computer room and a garden that we have not always being used outside. The neighborhood is quiet and the house is not far from the metro (7 / 8 min.) Harlem do not miss the Mass with the gospel choir is truly unique! My review is very late having lost the website details - but I definitely wanted to make sure after such an amazing experience, that once I'd found them again I added a review. The Brownstone building is truly fabulous, with character, charm and a feeling of home. It has been restored beautifully and tastefully and has everything you need within it. Erdene has gone to a lot of trouble to ensure everything you might need for your stay is there in abundance and if you manage to think of anything she will go out of her way to get it for you. The location is great, on a tree lined street, with true Harlem character surrounding you. Great access to the subway meaning nowhere is difficult to get to. The whole experience was a really positive first time in New York for me and I totally fell in love with the city, the New Yorkers, Harlem and the Brownstone itself - I will definitely be coming back and hopefully it won't be too long a wait!!! To end though, Erdene herself is what completes an already fantastic experience. She couldn't have done more for us and having travelled quite a lot herself took into account all the small things that can help make a trip more relaxing, including being very accommodating over checkout times ensuring the return trip was as relaxed as possible. She really is a lovely lady and well worth having as a New York contact. As has already been said in other reviews....I can't recommend this place enough.... book it!!!

As you can see from the time between arrival date and review date I felt strongly enough about the accomodation to want to make the effort and write a review even several weeks after the occasion. I would like to echo everyone elses opinion that the house is fantastic, clean, spacious, modern but with loads of character, and situated on a lovely tree lined street. Erdene was the highlight for me. Very welcoming, lovely and extremely helpful. For example I asked her for a mirror and an additional fan and true to her word both arrived within 24 hours. I can highly recommend this for anybody wanting a truely magical stay in New York.

After reading all the other reviews there's not much more i can add except to reiterate what has already been said. An amazing Brownstone, beautifully restored and very tastefully done. Slept 7 of us extremely comfortably. Erdene has thought of everything you might need for your stay and basically laid it on for you including the big fluffy towels. Great location... you get the buzz of staying in historic Harlem and with the subway you're close to everything. I'd heard a lot of positive things about staying in Harlem and was glad to find it all true. Erdene herself is a absolute gem. I loved getting to know her and she couldn't have done any more for us. The fact that she was so free with the checkout times made the return trip so much more relaxed. She's lovely. I cant recommend this place enough.... book it.

The apartment was great but the main 'special feature' was Erdene. She couldn't have been more helpful - from providing snacks on arrival to allowing us to stay on well into the afternoon on our last day as our flight didn't leave until early evening. Also, on my request she took us to her church - a welcoming experience I recommend to anyone. The apartment is tastefully deocrated, large and well -equipped - generous number of large, fluffy towels promptly replaced when used, lots of loo rolls etc. The area felt very safe - local people chatted to us in Harlem and whenever and wherever we got lost there was always someone on hand who was willing and able to give us directions. We'd been told to expect New Yorkers to be rude and aggressive but we found the opposite to be true. One of the highlights of the trip for us was seeing Jimmy Cliff perform live on SummerStage in Central Park - if you go in summer I recommend you get the brochure or check out the schedule online - there are some really great free concerts. I really hope that our first trip to this property won't be our last.

Our stay in Harlem was fantastic. The Brownstone that Erdene had to offer was beautifully remodeled. When you walk in your in the living room with fresh flowers on the mantel and go to the right is the kitchen with marble counter tops and top of the line appliances. Then you go down the hall there is a large bedroom and full bathroom. Also in the hallway was a long desk top where she had internet connection and a printer available for your use. Downstairs there are additional 2 large bedrooms, a family room where all six of us were able to sit and watch the world series on the large flat screen TV with another full bathroom. Hardwood floors through out. I was really impressed on how big and spacious this Brownstone was, SO much better than staying at a hotel. The subway, grocery store and dining are very close only a few blocks away. Everything was very accessible we had no problems finding our way around. Erdene had fresh fruit and muffins at our arrival. Erdene was so wonderful showing us the area, answered all questions we had and gave us her cell phone number in case we forgot anything. We had our doubts about staying in Harlem however we were very safe! Anyone looking for a place in New York, I highly recommend this Brownstone guarantee you will not be disappointed.

This was an absolutely wonderful brownstone. It surpassed the description. My family of seven had plenty of room we had a fabulous host. We all know NYC very well and didn't feel the need to go out during a very rainy Friday and Saturday except for groceries so the well stocked kitchen and beautiful brownstone made us feel as if we were at home. We watched TV, listened to music, surfed the internet, went on the decks to check out the non-stop rain. It was convenient to the subway, groceries, wine, restaurants. We stayed for 4 days but could have stayed much longer. It was perfect. We will be back.

After a long exhausting drive from Atlanta, GA it was refreshing to meet Erdene, with her sweet voice she showed us around the premises and told us everything we needed to know about the place. The Brownstone Guest House is just plain spectacular! Lots of history between these walls! Very Spacious Duplex with 2 Living Rooms with lots of seating, Three Bedrooms with extremely comfortable beds, Two big Bathrooms and a great modern Kitchen with everything you need to cook with all stainless steel appliances. The décor is just marvelous it’s a mix of old and new chosen with great taste. The neighborhood is excellent, just a 5 minute walk and you find everything you need. Very close from the Apollo Theater, Central Park, Stores and great places to eat. We travel a lot and can definitely say that this stay has been the most rewarding and stress free experience we have ever had. We will definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to have a great vacation or business stay.
