This property is actually in Townsend, TN. Which is about 20 minutes from Pigeon Forge. The location is MUCH better than being in Piegeon Forge, if you ask me. Its away from all the touristy stuff that sucks your wallet dry. The town of Townsend is quiet & relaxing while having all the basics you could need nearby (horseback riding, tubing, grocery stores, etc...) And it is SO CLOSE to the entrance to the park!! If the Great Smoky Mountains is your main objective in the area, then, Townsend & Over the Rainbow is the best location for you. Park entrance is only 5 minutes away by car. This house, nestled the hills of Townsend, feels secluded & much more rustic & "close to nature" than Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, but if you decide to do something "touristy" for a day, all of those activites are a short drive away (20 min). 12 family members stayed here from July 21-28, with ages ranging from 5 years-67 years. We all had a wonderful time. The house is immaculate & the views are amazing. The hot tub was nice & very clean. There was plenty of space for all of us to spread out. There was seating for all of us at dinner time. The decks were a fabulous to place to sit & wind down with a glass of wine or a beer. We ALL loved the theater! Kids watched movies each afternoon after a long day in GSMNP. And the adults enjoyed wathcing the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics on that huge TV. I would DEFINITELY stay here again. Our only complaint was that the glassware/coffee mugs was sparce. The glasses that were proveded were HUGE!!! We ended up going to the dollar store & buying wine glasses & a pack of plastic cups, which solved our problem for the most part. Also, a shower caddy (maybe one that sunctions to the wall) would have been nice. There was no place in the showers to put shampoo, soap, etc... Really, these were minor details, but would be easy to fix. Please note that parking for more than 4 cars is quite tight, but doable. We had 5 cars & it worked. But any more thanthat would be almost impossible to fit in the parking area....Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We had our 2nd family reunion at Over the Rainbow this summer, and were thrilled with it. The view is unbelievable (best I've seen in a cabin in the 30 years we've been going to the Smokies). Dealing with the owner is always a pleasure. The cabin is huge and perfectly situated for easy access to the national park, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. Do yourself a favor and skip the madness... stay in Townsend! We have also stayed at smaller cabins by the same owner and are always pleased. We're going back with friends in a month. Wouldn't stay anywhere else!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Our whole family spent Christmas at Over the Rainbow and it was absolutely wonderful! We were snowed in for 2 and a half days beginning Christmas morning and there was so much to enjoy in the house, playing in the snow and just enjoying the beauty of it all that most of us didn't even mind! The house is absolutely beautiful, very comfortable and full of amenities. My sister loved the huge sectional couch in the main living area so much that she bought one for her house when we got home. And the chairs in the theater room are so comfortable that most of us couldn't stay awake through a whole movie. The only time we saw the kids during our stay was usually when they got hungry because they were so entertained in the downstairs entertaiment area. They really enjoyed having their "own" floor where they could hang out & play. The only downside was that the parking area was VERY tight with so many vehicles (we had 18 people and 6 vehicles) and we couldn't get cars down the steep driveway with the snow & ice so we didn't get to enjoy all of the attractions of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg during our stay until the last afternoon which was not near enough time. Also, wi-fi is not provided in this house although it was listed on this site. The downstairs bedroom has a gorgeous view but was very cold in the extreme weather we had. But the owners were very helpful during our stay and got to us as soon as they could under the circumstances. Overall, this was the perfect house for a large family gathering! We took the most beautiful pictures of the breathtaking views and made memories that will last a lifetime! I hope to go back during the summer when we don't have to worry about the biggest snow storm in 20 years coming! :)Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: We have lived in East Tennesse for 15 years and we have never seen so much snow. Inspite of having 12 inches of snow on 3 different occasions this year, we have always been able to get everyone to the cabin! I agree, parking can sometimes be a problem if you have more than 5 cars although there is more parking available along the road. We also have other cabins in the valley below which helps a little more when we get a lot of snow. We do have Wifi for an additional cost. We are glad you liked the cabin and hope to see you again!

I visited this cabin in September 2009 and it was a beautiful new cabin that was HUGE and really exceeded my expectations. It is extremely private, and seculded yet close (10-15 minutes) to Pigeon Forge, Gatinburg, Townsend and the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. The house is situated perfectly between all of these destinations. There is plenty of fun and exciting outdoor activities for the day (whitewater rafting, horseback riding, 4 wheeler rides, hummer rides, hiking to waterfalls, zorb, alpine slides, go karts, heliocopter rides, etc) and in the evening just relax in this fabulous house in the jacuzzi, game room or the theater room. This was a great vacation...and the food is good in Tennessee too!! They are really generous with their portions : )Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: We moved to East Tennessee 15 years ago from Ft. Myers, Florida. We always wanted to rent cabins in the mountains but never thought it would happen. About 7 years ago, we started with 3 cabins on 5 acres. With God's help, we now have 9 cabins on 58 acres. A special Thank you to all our past guests who have made our dream come true! Over the Rainbow was built in memory of my sister, Shannon Tisch who went home to be with the Lord in 2006.
Why the Owner Chose Pigeon Forge:
This cabin was built for my mother, Marge Tisch, in memory of her daughter Shannon Tisch. She lives in Prescott, Arizona.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Over the Rainbow is probably the most secluded cabins with views in the Smoky Mountains. You just have to see it to believe it. It looks like it is on 1000 acres! There are caves, creeks and even a waterfall that is part of the 58 acres. You don't have to sit in the cabin, go and explore the wonders of the Smoky Mountains without even getting in the car.
