Year Purchased: 2009
Why the Owner Chose Ludington
Nothing beats vacationing on the water.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Water, water, everywhere. What's really cool about Hamlin Lake is that it borders Lake Michigan and Ludington State Park, which means you can boat to the Park and walk to the sandy white beaches on Lake Michigan. Or, you can drive 10 minutes by car and be on the beach. Also, Hamlin Lake is divided into two distinct regions, Upper and Lower, which typically means that if the water is too rough from wind on one part of the lake, you can go to the other part of the lake and it will be much calmer.
The park has 5,300 acres, frontage on Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake, 347 campsites, 18 miles of hiking and biking trails including the Skyline trail and 16 miles of cross country ski trails.
The sandy shoreline of Hamlin Lake Beach is popular with swimmers and sunbathers. It features picnic lawns, concession stands, and restrooms. From here you can begin your walk on a hiking path, or rent a canoe and take a leisurely glide on marked paths that meander along the state park's shoreline.
Beach your boat and play on these great dunes 5 minutes from our cottage.
Summer or winter, fishermen like the boat launch at Wilson Hill Park—a perfect location that allows access to Upper Hamlin Lake. There’s plenty of parking, with enough area for boat trailers.
Motor Rental Fishing & Pontoon Boat Rental Fishing Tackle Gas & Oil Fishing License Live Bait Boat Slips
All your basic needs, including fishing tackle, alcholic berverages, a deli counter, and just 3 miles from our cottage.
Within Manistee National Forest - This old downhill ski area offers challenging mountain biking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter.

Glorious Week!

We would describe our week as Glorious Chaos! Multiple families came together for the week (this is the Chaos) and yet we were so comfortable and had plenty of room to spread out. The cottage was very clean and stocked with everything needed for the week. My kids loved fishing on Lake Hamlin and the adults loved sitting on the swing over looking the water. The deck is huge and all our meals and much of our time was spent on the deck. Another highlight for my kids...the bunkhouse and outdoor shower. They still are talking about the shower! We rented a boat during our stay and made many trips throughout the week to Ludington State Park...one of our favorite places to visit. It truly was a glorious week and we hope to return next year!

Enjoyed a week of West Michigan on beautiful Hamlin Lake. Large, well appointed accommodation! Plenty of room for two families. Bunkhouse was a hit with the kids, large deck area and waterfront yard were great for BBQ and provided easy access for parking our 15' boat. Boat launch only 3 minutes from cottage. Only 15 minutes drive to Lake Michigan (Ludington SP).

Wonderful place to stay! My family and I had a great time at this cottage! The front lawn was great for all the games we played and for my little girl to run around! There was so much room between the bunkhouse and the cottage! Also if you have a boat there is alot of space to park it, it was very convinent for us! We had a fabulous time during our stay! Hopefully we can come back next year! Thank you so much for everything!

There were so many great things about this cottage, that I hardly know where to start. The bunk house was fabulous, the outdoor shower was a great bonus, the yard and deck were HUGE, the kitchen was large and well-stocked, there was plenty of parking, the beds were clean, the neighbors were all really nice and friendly, the landscaping was really clean...I could easily go on. We would most definitely recommend this property to others and we will look into renting it again ourselves next year. There were just a couple 'hiccups' for us...we did spend a bit of time cleaning the main house (there were quite a few spider webs in the sliding doors, lights, and corners and the bathrooms needed a bit of cleaning too) and the internet wasn't working for about half the time we were there. Just a note to anyone else renting in the future - the well-stocked kitchen is REALLY well-stocked...anything you could possibly need is already there from a crock pot to a hand mixer and anything in between. We would also recommend bringing large bumpers, strong anchors, and maybe a piece of carpet or something to lay along the metal seawall to keep the boats from bumping. We had a few windy/wavy days and had a bit of trouble keeping our boats off the wall. Overall, the property was FANTASTIC!!! We had a group of 12 with ages ranging from 1 year to 52 and we did NOT feel cramped for space at all. We spent our days at the sand dunes or skiing, tubing and wake boarding on the lake, and our nights watching tv, playing games, having bonfires and relaxing. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable week.

Our family had a great vacation week at the Hamlin Lake Cottage. The main cottage is comfy and well furnished and the bunk house was awesome for movie night. We visited the state park and watched the Badger sail into the sunset and made too many trips to the House of Flavors. Hope we can do it again next year!

This is a great rental at Hamlin Lake. The bunk house was a huge bonus as was the spacious yard and deck. We have been going to Hamlin 10+ years and this is our favorite location! The kitchen was well stocked and the rental had many amenities including wireless internet, personal computer, linens and towels (rare in Hamlin Lake rentals), gas grill, plenty of dock space, and lots of outdoor seating. The house and bunk house sleeps 10+ very comfortably. I would highly recommend this location on beautiful Hamlin Lake!

Just returned from a WONDERFUL week at Hamlin Lake. The accommodations were great - especially liked the new shower on the deck. The photos don't do it justice. Myself and nine friends were there for a girls' retreat. We plan to return next year because we didn't do everything that was on our list. Loved having a washer/dryer available. The owner was very helpful when I called to ask about the place and answered all my questions. The property manager who lives across the street was also very helpful. I would definitely recommend this property to family and friends. Lots of great places to eat in the Ludington area: Pirates' Pub, P.M. Steamers, Blu Moon, Jamesport Brewing Co. and Scotty's to name a few. And don't forget House of Flavors for a tasty refreshing treat. Several of the gals found great bargains at the consignment shops. Lots to see and do in the Ludington area. This place is a gem - don't pass it up.
Owner response:I am so glad you enjoyed your stay, Chris, and we'll be sure to take you up on your few comments to make it even better! Andrew Murray

We feel very lucky that we found this cottage available to spend the last week of our children's summer vacation (Aug 23-30). Rain or shine, you will enjoy your stay in this very comfortable home away from home. The wireless internet and the new flat screen tv kept us entertained inside while the expansive yard and wonderful views awed us all outside. Thanks for sharing your home with our family and for the happy memories it provided us!!!
