Location: Buena Vista, South Central, Colorado, USA (93 Miles West of Colorado Springs, 120 Miles from Denver) View Map

Accommodations:  Condominium, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

You’ll be staying in South Main River Park, a New Urbanist community being built on the Arkansas River in the town of Buena Vista. If your priorities are 1) convenient access to the area’s many recreational activities, 2) a beautiful location at 3) an affordable price, our condo may be just what you're looking for.

You can launch a kayak, hop on a mountain bike or wear out your hiking shoes by just stepping out the front door. No building is closer to the South Main whitewater launch area, kayak play hole and Whitewater and Arkansas River Trails. These trails are tied to the Barbara Whipple Trail, Midland Bike Trail and Four Mile Travel Management Area. 175,000 acres of wilderness and BLM lands are your backyard. A skateboarding park and several playgrounds are just a few blocks away.

Shopping, restaurants, equipment rentals, theatre, Community Center, museum, town library and other amenities are within easy walking distance. The new Eddyline Brewery and Restaurant is at the other end of our block. After a hard day of recreating you can either sit down for beer and fire baked pizza or you can sit in your own courtyard and watch the sunset over Mt. Princeton and the Continental Divide. At any time you can step over to the park's "Living Room Without Walls" to watch the kayakers and rafters running the rapids or bikers, hikers and rock climbers ascending 9600 foot Midland Hill on the other side of the river. Play a game of horseshoes, checkers or chess. If you're hungry fire up one of the grills. At night you can even build a camp fire in the fire ring and listen to the river below. Call it “convenient condo camping”.

South Main architectural standards are creating an authentic traditional neighborhood. High quality public space is designed for walking and creating community. You will be living on the first floor of a 3-story classical style stone and stucco building. The condo’s spacious living area and separate bedroom will sleep four easily. An open kitchen and dining area bring the total floor space to about 850 sq.ft. Entry is through a courtyard and large porch on the west side of the building. There is a good view toward 14,000+ foot Mt. Princeton and the Continental Divide, but none toward the River. The courtyard provides a private place for dining and socializing away from Main Street and the public square. The covered porch offers shelter and shade. Priced at less than the best hotel in town, we want to build a loyal core of vacationing guests who share our joy of living here. Our condo is clean, homey and affordable, but not luxury living. It’s where we plan to live when we can’t climb to the third floor anymore.

New Condo on Arkansas River Park with Wilderness & Town Access

Year Purchased: 2009

Why the Owner Chose Buena Vista

The condo was originally intended to be a mother-in-law suite for our parents. After 20 years of building our list of dream retirement locations, we were unable to choose between mountains or water. Finally we finally decided to live, work and raise our family in the place at the top of the list because it had both. In other words, we couldn't wait to retire to enjoy retirement living. The condo shares the first floor with my office space in a three story classical style building. We live on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

The Unique Benefits at this Condominium

South Main River Park is a New Urbanist development with access to the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area and Pike-San Isabel National Forest. Our back yard is 175,000 acres of wilderness and BLM recreation area. We can step out our front door for mountain biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, cross county skiing, wilderness camping, snow shoeing, four-wheeling, panning for gold and exploring historic ghost towns. If I have to work, I prefer to do it in the environment of 14,000 foot mountains. There's never a bad day when you're surrounded by the towering peaks of the Sawatch, Sangre de Christo and Mosquito Ranges of the Rocky Mountains. Those same towering mountains on three sides create a protective wall for what the state climatologist calls "The Banana Belt of the Rocky Mountains". Winters on the valley floor are relatively warm and mild compared to the mountains around us. We actually enjoy a high desert climate with an average of 10 inches of rainfall.

From Guest Book in Condo: "We enjoyed our stay in Buena Vista. We were very pleasantly surprised by the location of this unit - so close to all activities and now there is a good brew pub just around the corner (Eddyline). The Barbara Whipple Trail was awesome and mountain biking is close at the Trailhead. We will definitely come back to use S. Main St. again soon."

Enjoyed the "back yard"...plenty of grass for a one-year-old to play in and trails for mom, dad, papa & grandma. Thanks again. Hopefully we'll be able to return in two years.

From Guest Book in condo: "We love this part of Colorado - with so many fun activities and now we have a lovely and comfortable place to rest our tired bodies at the end of a busy day - which is everyday here. This is new BV and with the park & brewery right outside the door - every night is fun. We really liked sitting in the "living room" by the river to watch the kayakers do their tricks. The time went quickly and we know we will be back! Enjoyed"
