Location: Cloudcroft, New Mexico, USA (Ruidoso 41 Mi; Alamogordo 16 Mi.) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)
This house was built three years ago on one acre of forest land in the village of Cloudcroft in the Sacramento mountains. It is designed for comfort, relaxation, fun and class, all at mid-level prices.
One enters the house to a semi-open den-dining-kitchen area with open ceilings and wood beams, a wood burning fireplace, comfortable furniture, satellite HDTV, with both DVD and VCR, and books, games and puzzles for children and adults. Add to that the view of many pine, aspen and other native trees and plants through the glass portion of the doors onto the front covered deck.
The kitchen has all the customary appliances and cooking equipment, described in detail later. The dining table seats 8. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds and the other bedroom has two twins, all of which comfortably sleep 6 with the queen couch in the den sleeping an additional 2. The master bath area has a washer and dryer in a closet.
The owners say the most fun part of the house is the covered front deck, which faces due east, making an early sunrise with a cup of coffee or tea a must.

Why the Owner Chose Cloudcroft
We chose Cloudcroft over places in Colorado because the drive from our home is so much shorter and we prefer the quieter and less hectic pace of Cloudcroft.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We like hiking, sitting of the front deck reading or just watching the humming birds or even having lunch out there. The melodramas put on by the Village are a hoot, with popcorn being thrown at the villain. On cold days or evenings, sitting by the fire and watching a movie or just reading a book or magazine is also a treat.
Owner's Map of Cloudcroft
My wife and I live in Fredericksburg, Texas, which is northwest of San Antonio. It gets rather warm there in the summer months. So, we decided to build a house in Cloudcroft to enjoy the average summertime temperature in the 70's that Cloudcroft offers. We also enjoy the beautiful fall colors and the awesome winter snow. There are numerous day trips we also like, such as Ruidoso and Lincoln. The Village people are friendly and and genuine and we always enjoy our stays in Cloudcroft.

What a beautiful home; immaculate, all the towels, pans, dishes, coffee makers, etc. that we needed. We had our children and grandchildren with us and we felt like we were in our own vacation home in the mountains. Thank you for providing a memorable time for our family. We probably will stay there again next year.

My wife and I took our 2 daughters and grandson to Cloudcroft for a long weekend. We always love staying in the area, but the Kolb's cabin made this trip extra special. A beautiful cabin with comfortable furniture and wonderful decorations made us feel like we were in a home instead of a rental. All the towels, linens, pots, pans and utensils that you would need are provided. The deck has great furniture for relaxing and enjoying the view. We saw hummingbirds, raccoons and elk from the deck. Rent this cabin and you will be glad that you did. You and your family will love it! John H

Wow! I love the way this cabin has been decorated ... rustic, homey, with lots of attention to detail. It's definitely a home, not just a rental. We had hoped to escape, even just temporarily, the dry, blistering heat that plagues Texas right now. The weather and the cabin far exceeded our expectations. We definitely hope to return one day soon.

We enjoyed our stay here! It was beautiful, comfortable and very inviting. The weather was wonderful with showers on several days. The high temp. was in the 70's and after a rain in the 50's. Such a relief after all the Texas heat. Thank you Kolbs for allowing our family to enjoy your vacation home. We loved it!

We can't say enough about our weekend at Elk Hollow! We've rented through VRBO across the country and in the carribean, and we rate this home above and beyond. The lovely owners have stocked this house with everything you need, and it is in spotless condition. We didn't want to leave!!"

Our stay at the Woodlands was one of the best vacations we have ever had, a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and yet plenty of places to go and things to do within a short distance. We had all the comforts of home with all the pleasures of vacation. Since returning home I have longed to have coffee on the porch in the early morning while listening to the birds singing their melodies and surfing the web on my laptop. The Cloudcroft merchants were friendly and helpful with questions and directions. The town market had delicious pies and pastries that were baked fresh every day - my mouth waters thinking of the warm peach berry pie. My husband and I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. Even though the Kolbs were not there, we felt their hospitality in their cabin's personality and decor.

This spot is almost too good to be true. We spent a long weekend in search of a place to escape the distractions of home, yet still be comfortable enough to make it memorable for everyone. The Kolb's beautiful home in Cloudcroft, NM is an oasis. For us, the frenetic pace of life with busy, teenage kids, two careers, etc has made the pursuit of togetherness all that more elusive. This haven is just what the doctor ordered - up the hill a mile or so from the Cloudcroft village, nestled in a wooded ravine, nothing but tranquility in all directions. The first thing you notice, other than the luxurious amenities, is the pristine silence. You might just re-discover the serenity of a sunrise, the invigoration of a walk through crunching snow, or the warmth of a crackling fire shared with loved ones. The home is brand new, very well appointed, and above all cozy, and comfortable. If your kids are like ours, they want to be plugged in, and the wireless broadband and satellite TV are there if you need them. But it wasn't long before they were dragging us out sledding, skating, tubing, or even chopping wood in favor of facebook or texting. Cloudcroft isn't a ski destination, of course, but it does have a small ski hill and a tubing run. There are a few restaurants, a grocery store, a ski shop, and even a hardware store. Ruidoso is about 90 mins north. If you're looking for a self-contained, cozy retreat, bring your anxieties, and you won' t be disappointed.
