Our home in Guilford was built in 1900 and we have chosen to retain its original charm. The rooms are pine paneled and stay cool in the summer heat. The kitchen has a new stove and refrigerator and microwave but also sports its original sink with a wonderful old serving board that folds up like the old Murphy beds! There is a large dining room that seats eight and a wonderful screened in porch that adjoins the dining room that also has a dining table to seat an additional eight. The sun porch also has wicker seating to sit and enjoy a view of the sea. The deck is spacious! It also may be used for dining and entertaining as it also has a large table and chairs as well as a couple of chaises and bar table for two. A half bath is located right off the kitchen and is convenient for kids running in from the beach! An outdoor shower on the deck is the perfect place to wash the salt out of your hair! Imagine a shower with a view of the ocean!
Upstairs there are four bedrooms. The house is not air-conditioned, but the breeze wafts in from the sea and there is a fan in each of the rooms. Three of the upstairs rooms have double beds and the children's room has a twin bed and bunk beds. There is a full bath on the second floor.
The house is completely equipped with anything you could ask for! Bicycles for kids and adults, TV, DVD players and complete kitchen ware. Clamming anyone? They're right in the backyard!

Year Purchased: 2004
Terry and I live at a boarding school in Washington, Connecticut and spend most of our summers in Guilford. We have 6 children - only one is still at home - and two dogs and have created a cozy "home away from home" in our cottage in Guilford. We are both "collectors" and our house reflects this. We have decorated it with furniture and knick knacks that reflect the era in which it was built.
Why the Owner Chose Guilford
Guilford is the perfect place to vacation. Its proximity to the water allows us to enjoy swimming, boating, clamming and beach combing. But it's also just an hour and a half from NYC. It's so easy to hop on a train and spend an exciting day in New York. The town of Guilford has a beautiful green where there are craft shows and summer concerts - lots of shopping and restaurants and great ice cream!
The Unique Benefits of this House
Our house in Guilford is really right ON the water! Swim off the rocks at high tide in our backyard - or walk 50 feet to the sandy beach out of our front door! The views from every room are spectacular and the sounds of the sea and gulls are truly wonderful. The house is warm and inviting and the deck is sunny and bright. We hope that some special people are able to enjoy our very special home!
