Book it, Dano!

A great place. Lagoon is totally private, with warm clear water and fish. Master bedroom and bath is separate from the rest of the house. Lots of room for cooking, lounging, eating, partying. Clean and ready to move in to. Champagne Pond is a block away. We loved it.

Owner response:Aloha and Mahalo for taking the time to send us a review! We think the Rabbit and Dragon cottage with its incredibly private geothermally heated swimming pond is pretty awesome!!! Come back and see us anytime. Mark and Ron with Hawaiian Paradise Vacation Rentals

Our children took us to the Big Island of Hawaii and this is one happy Mum and Dad. Besides enjoying absolutly everything and everybody on this piece of Paradise, we were very lucky to be staying at the Rabbit and Dragon in beautiful Pahoa. This place has a tropical decor to go with the tropical natural pool and the birds, fish, flowers, lanai, and amazing attention to detail. We LOVED it. Also, attention was given to cleanliness and convenience. Thank you so much for caring about every little thing and making our stay at the Rabbit and Dragon the relaxed, fun time one dreams of having when in Hawaii. Aloha and many thanks.

Owner response:Aloha and Mahalo plenty for your kind words. We think that the Rabbit and Dragon cottage IS pretty special for sure. Please come back and see us again any time. Aloha, Mark and Ron from Hawaiian Paradise Vacation Rentals

Nothing could be better...

At first I was trying to rent some ocean-front property, but "Rabbit&Dragon" even better! Because it takes just over a minute to get to ocean, but nobody swims by your property, so you have more privacy! There were 4 of us - 2 adults and 2 children and we were very comfortable. We were able to begin and end the day with snorkeling in our own hot pond - just like swimming in the huge aquarium, we took a couple of minutes walk to Champagne Pond for more snorkeling - the turtles were always there, and we drove 10-15-20 minutes for more swimming and snorkeling! The hot pond is really big - I stayed in some hotel with the smaller swimming pools! The deck is big, too, and has an abundance of loungers as well as drying lines :-) I think the description of property is accurate, but pictures don't reflect the complete beauty of the pool. Property was very clean, and it felt decorated with love and care - we didn't spend a lot of time inside, but some beautifully matched accent are very noticeable. I already started looking for the cheap plain tickets to go back. I think rented for a price reasonable enough even for 2 travelers, so we might go back without children the next time!

Loved this house!

We loved our stay here. The pool was beautiful and warm, little fish in the water to snorkel around. We adored the location, it was away from Hilo but close enough to all the various destinations on the eastside of the island to take great day trips. Had we stayed longer in the area, we would have spent more time hanging at the house, bbqing and swimming. We even saw a gigantic sea turtle at the Champagne Pool down the street. Each night we were serenaded by the local Koqui frogs. It was definitely tropical! Highly recommend this house for the adventurous and creative. This is a fun little place but kind of unconventional.

Owner response:Aloha and Mahalo for your review! We're so happy that you enjoyed yourselves. We love unconventional! This little cottage is very typical of the seaside cottages that were built here in the 40's and 50's. There are only a handful of these homes that have these incredible geothermally heated swimming ponds in the back yard. This is definitely one of our most popular rentals. Come experience it for yourself! Aloha! Mark Hawaiian Paradise Vacation Rentals

Absolutely wonderful! Charming, convenient, and the kids loved the heated "pool"!!

Although it was quite a few years back that we stayed here, it was a wonderful experience. The home was quite unique, and was a perfect home-base from which to visit Hawai'i Volcanos NP and the local beaches, and from which to enjoy the nearby scenery. But the what the kids enjoyed most (they were 10 and 14 at the time) was the beautiful geothermally heated "pool"... yet it was so much nicer than a true pool. The collapsed lava tube was very picturesque, though a little sharp-edged, and there were fish and frogs in it as well. The kids actually were snorkeling in the back yard, and getting quite a show!! If you have small children, you will want to make sure they stay safe in the pool so as not to cut up their feet and hands, etc. At night, the geckos would come out... they were tiny and cute, looking amazingly like the Geico Gecko (only these didn't talk). They were only about two inches in length, and they wouldn't bother people, but they would eat a lot of the mosquitoes. (Face it -- these are the tropics... there WILL be bugs!!) At the time, there was a big, orange cat that would wander through. He was very friendly, and our kids missed their cats from home so they adopted him while we were there, calling him "The Big Kahuna." This was NOT the Hilton or the Sheraton: it had no concierge desk nor did it have room service. But if what you are looking for is a unique, one-of-a-kind place with charm and natural beauty, a place that you will always remember fondly, I really don't think it gets much better than this! I would definitely stay here again, and plan to!!

A charming and relaxing hideaway

Date of Stay: 04/26/10 Review Submitted: 06/12/10

Rabbit&Dragon is a great little cottage with all the amenities you need for a getaway spot. We loved the rustic feel and the quaint charm, as well as the seclusion. And the greenery and hot pond right outside. Plus the frogs "koki"-ing at night and the birds singing in the mornings. Mark and Ron are extremely helpful and friendly, easy to work with and laid back, intent on making your stay easy and enjoyable. The warm pool in the backyard is great, but having Champagne Pond a few hundred feet away is just amazing, so convenient for a quick dip or snorkel any time of the day. The pictures are spot on, so you can tell what you're getting, but you really must see it to appreciate it. The huge lanai is great for breakfasts and the indoor/outdoor area is an awesome place for an afternoon nap. The location is great for exploring the east coast of the Big Island. We can't wait to go back.
