NEIGHBORHOOD:
Chelsea is a neighborhood on the West Side of Manhattan that mixes post-industrial buildings with mid-nineteenth century brick and brownstone townhouses. Chelsea has recently developed into an extremely lively art gallery neighborhood to the west, which has spawned numerous excellent restaurants. There are movie theaters, great shopping and all conveniences along Eighth Avenue and further west. To the east, both 5th and 6th Avenues between 14th and 23rd Streets are lively shopping areas with a huge variety clothing and specialty of stores. A ten-minute walk south puts you in the lively "meatpacking" district, popular for its restaurants, boutiques and clubs, or the heart of Greenwich Village, while the same time to the north gets you to 34th Street and Madison Square Garden or Macy’s. The famous Chelsea Piers Sports Complex is a ten minute walk west on the Hudson River with health and fitness facilities (pool, gym, classes, rock climbing etc.) rollerblading, two ice skating rinks, bowling alley, driving range and a wide variety of children's programs. The High Line, the old elevated rail line has been converted into an elevated park and a significant section of it is now open to the public, with an entrance only a block away. There are endless things to do in this neighborhood and a wide variety of great restaurants.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1996
I reside in the building, together with my wife of more than 25 years. We have two adult children. I run a small publishing business out of my home and am on premises most of the time. I grew up in New York. My wife and I love to travel. We are very sociable and enjoy welcoming guests from all over the world.
Why the Owner Chose Chelsea
We chose to live in Chelsea in the mid 90's when it was fast developing into a real neighborhood with development plans in place for the nearby meatpacking district and Highline. It has since become a lively and interesting place to visit or reside. The rental apartment is in the same town house as the owners' permanent residence.
The Unique Benefits of this Apartment
Access to museums, art galleries, theater, night life and many different cultural amenities. Easy access to other boroughs of New York with zoo, botanical gardens, as well as Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey.

From our own guestbook: Richard and Lesley, Thank you for a marvelous stay in Chelsea. Your apartment is so well located - within walking distance to the village and midtown, and within easy public transport distance to everything else. I appreciated the thoughtful "extras" - all the amenities in the bathroom and kitchen, as well as the very comfortable beds and linens. Even the sofabed was comfortable! And thanks, too, for the recommendation to check out La Bergamote - scrumptious! Aloha, Dawn PS - And I forgot to note how much I enjoy the decor - very classy, yet comforting.

From our own Guest Book: We came east to visit our daugher and son-in-law. Perfect time! Walks, shows, sights, food and pubs ... so many pubs. Thank you for a great place and warm hospitality. Jan and I are headed back to CA and the quiet life (?) We'll be swapping NY stories 'til our next go around in 2010. Jim PS Thank you, Richard, for not mentioning the Yankees once! Thank you for a wonderful week. We'll surely come again. Jan

Homeowner Response:
Not to confuse potential visitors, I think (and hope) Mary meant "gem", not "gym"! There are gyms nearby if you are so inspired, but we are a small residential building and don't have one on-site other than 2 flights of stairs!
