PALM SPRINGS/DESERT CITIES ARCHITECTURAL GETAWAY
A Serene Retreat for Body, Mind, and Spirit.
Open the double gold doors and discover a lush desert paradise and TWO uniquely desirable GUEST HOUSES, located in resident photographer-designer John Lugar's welcoming architectural compound.
Designed by renown Mid-Century Architect Jack Meiselman, the compound is located in the famous Racquet Club Estates neighborhood of "must see" restored Alexanders, Wexlers, and Meiselmans.
John Lugar's photo/design studio is the centerpiece of this large and magnificent property, and his TWO on site GUEST HOUSES offer privacy and luxury AT A PRICE EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN ENTRY-LEVEL RESORT ROOMS OR CLAUSTROPHOBIC CONDOS.
Think of John as your personal concierge, available for your every need, but otherwise quietly invisible. This GUARANTEES that your GUEST HOUSE, the pool and the spacious grounds, are dedicated to your privacy and singular enjoyment.
Each GUEST HOUSE is perfect for singles, two friends, or a couple. Both GUEST HOUSES can accommodate up to four friends or two couples looking to get away together.
The spacious DETACHED GUEST HOUSE STUDIO is outfitted with a convenient kitchenette, dining area, comfy Cal King bed and plenty of storage and work space to finish that novel, screenplay, begin your photographic exploration of the desert, or just "chill". Double French Doors overlook the patio, large pool, and expansive park-like grounds with olive trees and statuesque ficus topiaries bordering the entire back yard.
For those seeking larger accommodations, the 1000 square foot ATTACHED GUEST HOUSE has a private entrance, living/media room, large master bedroom and bath, with Cal King bed and tiled double shower. There is also a private dining room and full kitchen with washer/dryer.
Both GUEST HOUSES are cheerfully furnished with colorful and hip minimalist decor and glorious desert sunlight abounds. The home owner rotates his own photography throughout both GUEST HOUSES for your enjoyment.
Situated at the end of a PEACEFUL and QUIET cul-de-sac near Vista Chino and Indian Canyon, yet only two blocks walking distance to the "hot" new Riviera Hotel and Spa, Billy Reed's, Toucans, Rick's, and Dink's Ultra Lounge and Restaurant.
Just minutes away from WORLD's GYM, Warm Sands, Arenas and all the other good things that the desert offers the discriminating and adventurous traveler.
Either GUEST HOUSE (take one or both, if you like) is PERFECT for WRITERS, ARTISTS, and others seeking a SERENE and CONTEMPLATIVE DESERT RETREAT.
These accommodations have been conceived as a NON-SMOKING, CLEAN AND SOBER, SAFE AND SANE ENVIRONMENT, so the GUEST HOUSES are not for partiers. RESPONSIBLE social drinkers, however, are always WELCOME.
ASK for more information and pictures.
Guests staying in the DETACHED GUEST HOUSE Studio are welcome to bring one medium sized, friendly, well behaved, housebroken dog to run around and play in the enormous grassy back yard with RUSTY (9 yr old female Shiba Inu mix) and JAKE (2 year old Chow/Retriever mix) No cats, please.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Weekend guests are cordially invited to attend the weekly Saturday night film salon in the owner's on-site Photo/Design Studio. An elegant dinner is followed by the screening and discussion of a classic film. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the desert's most interesting people, many of whom have been involved in film, theatre, and the arts.

We were looking for a nice place to spend the weekend for my friends birthday get-away. We were pleasantly surprised how nice and clean it was for the very reasonable price we paid for the weekend! Quiet and well kept neighborhood of beautiful mid-century mod houses! We were greeted with a friendly smile by John upon our arrival. He gave us a tour of our lodgings and answered any questions that we had. We stayed in the larger rental, and found it to be nicely equipped with everything we needed. Just a short ride in the car, and your were downtown for all the fabulous food, bars, and shopping! We had a great time.... thank you, John!

Dear Irene, while I am ecstatic that your forces downsized to a tropical storm, I was even more ecstatic not to come into contact with you at all. You see, I never wanted to meet you. Instead of interacting with you, I decided to head to Palm Springs for a few nights to hang out at the Milben Manor which was more than what anyone could ask for. It was an odyssey filled with scorching hot/humid peaceful mornings, afternoons and evenings. Yes, the humidity was rather unusual, but it just meant more time in the pool that is located on the premises. I stayed in the guest house that was very clean, with a shower that could fit 5-10 people at a time. Although the owner of the manor stays on the premises, I didnt see him not one time. However, he was just a phone call away. I know this because I phoned him a few times with questions. JL thanks for everything and for making my short stay seem very long and relaxing. I will be returning as soon as time permits. Next time I would love to meet the dogs! NYC!

John was the perfect host for our week spent at his studio. I travel with my dog and it was just wonderful being able to have him with me by the pool and playing in the yard. John's place is very centrally located and there is plenty to do in the area. The accommodations were very comfortable and very nice with air conditioning and internet access. In short, this was the perfect place for a quiet, relaxed and comfortable respite! I highly recommend it!

My husband and I cannot stop raving about John's incredible guest house. It was spacious, simply and tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. We were in town shopping for a new home but we still had business to tend to. The guest house allowed us both enough breathing room to work and to relax. We started our days on the private patio with a cup of coffee and enjoyed happy hour with Jake and Rusty poolside. John was available to answer questions with one phone call or knock on the door, otherwise we never knew he was there. Thank you John for making us feel at home & we do plan on returning.

I stayed at this wonderful recently with my brother. We stayed in the larger guest house and found it to larger than it looks in the photos. You have access to the yard but there is also your own private patio. The area is quiet but less than 5 mins drive from the town center and many restaurants and bars. The property was clean and well-maintained. In the photos it may appear the guest houses are somewhat close together but they are not. We took our rather unruly dog and he was allowed use of the yard and thank goodness upon our return trip he slept for 3 days! There is a God.. John is available to assist with any requests but is not intrusive - your privacy is respected. He also hosts a movie in his "salon" on Saturday nights. If you get the chance I would recommend it - the cast of characters that assemble for this event are worth the price of admission - which is free. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and on our next visit to Palm Springs we sincerely hope this lovely is available. I highly recommend it.

That was really a perfect stay, absolutely uncomplicated and unconstrained ...! John has been a perfect host ... very gentle + helpful in any situation, yet invisible. The house is perfect and loving furnished with a huge grassy backyard for sming, relaxing, playing, whatever you want to do. And his four-legged friends ... you must love them ...! The location is very close to everything. I enjoyed my stay very much, the time was running too fast unfortunately ...! I highly recommend the house with the "Golden" door ...! Thanks John ... and Rusty + Jake ...!

This was a perfect get-a-way place to escape to. First of all, the place was able to accommodate our whole family, yes, dogs as well :). We rented the very spacious 1 bedroom guesthouse and it was just beautiful. JL was so accommodating and a gracious host. Very quiet and private. The large green grass back yard with pool were immaculately kept and there was a small private patio off of the guest house kitchen for the dogs to lie in the sun. Absolutely recommend to anybody who wants to be pampered and not get caught up in those outrageously high priced hotels.

don't tell anyone about this accommodation.....sh!!! Keep it a secret....otherwise there will never be any vacancies. We had two wonderfull weeks guests at John's home, and wished we had stayed longer!. The apartment we rented (the larger of the two available) was more than we anticipated by far!. A fabalous bathroom - superb king sized bed, fully equipped kitchen, dining room with access to a private outside deck with table and chairs and bbq. The apartment is beautifully decorated - in colours thatcan do nothing but make you feel warm and happy., and the best supply of current magazines of all tastes and books to wile away hours. John, the owner is a charmiing man, he is the perfecrt host, and his Satuday night film salon is a must. Remember , don't spread the word too far it's a secret, otherwise there will be no room for us next year....sh!!!! We have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation, it is private and quiet, and you will love Jake and Rusty. A car will be an asset to have to go to various restaurants and galleries, all close by, but more convenient with a vehicle.

The view; the sweet sweet dogs; John, your gracious host: for so very many reasons, this is a WONDERFUL place to stay. And if you like MCM architecture, you can take walks in the immediate neighborhood to see gems restored, those in transition, and those still needing some TLC. Downtown is not far--a 5 minute bike ride--but it's so peaceful at the house you might not ever head out. In short: enjoy!
