A Mid Century Beauty!

Guest: Carrie (La Verne, CA)
Date of Stay: 01/13/12 Review Submitted: 01/16/12

We were looking for a nice place to spend the weekend for my friends birthday get-away. We were pleasantly surprised how nice and clean it was for the very reasonable price we paid for the weekend! Quiet and well kept neighborhood of beautiful mid-century mod houses! We were greeted with a friendly smile by John upon our arrival. He gave us a tour of our lodgings and answered any questions that we had. We stayed in the larger rental, and found it to be nicely equipped with everything we needed. Just a short ride in the car, and your were downtown for all the fabulous food, bars, and shopping! We had a great time.... thank you, John!

My Escape from Irene (Hurricane)

Guest: Ty (NY, NY)
Date of Stay: 08/27/11 Review Submitted: 09/02/11

Dear Irene, while I am ecstatic that your forces downsized to a tropical storm, I was even more ecstatic not to come into contact with you at all. You see, I never wanted to meet you. Instead of interacting with you, I decided to head to Palm Springs for a few nights to hang out at the Milben Manor which was more than what anyone could ask for. It was an odyssey filled with scorching hot/humid peaceful mornings, afternoons and evenings. Yes, the humidity was rather unusual, but it just meant more time in the pool that is located on the premises. I stayed in the guest house that was very clean, with a shower that could fit 5-10 people at a time. Although the owner of the manor stays on the premises, I didnt see him not one time. However, he was just a phone call away. I know this because I phoned him a few times with questions. JL thanks for everything and for making my short stay seem very long and relaxing. I will be returning as soon as time permits. Next time I would love to meet the dogs! NYC!

The Unsophisticated Traveller...

Guest: fulwood (Mesa, Arizona)
Date of Stay: 06/03/11 Review Submitted: 06/10/11

I stayed at this wonderful recently with my brother. We stayed in the larger guest house and found it to larger than it looks in the photos. You have access to the yard but there is also your own private patio. The area is quiet but less than 5 mins drive from the town center and many restaurants and bars. The property was clean and well-maintained. In the photos it may appear the guest houses are somewhat close together but they are not. We took our rather unruly dog and he was allowed use of the yard and thank goodness upon our return trip he slept for 3 days! There is a God.. John is available to assist with any requests but is not intrusive - your privacy is respected. He also hosts a movie in his "salon" on Saturday nights. If you get the chance I would recommend it - the cast of characters that assemble for this event are worth the price of admission - which is free. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and on our next visit to Palm Springs we sincerely hope this lovely is available. I highly recommend it.

Perfect Quiet Getaway

Guest: Felicia (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 05/23/11 Review Submitted: 06/19/11

John was the perfect host for our week spent at his studio. I travel with my dog and it was just wonderful being able to have him with me by the pool and playing in the yard. John's place is very centrally located and there is plenty to do in the area. The accommodations were very comfortable and very nice with air conditioning and internet access. In short, this was the perfect place for a quiet, relaxed and comfortable respite! I highly recommend it!

Above expectations

Date of Stay: 05/10/11 Review Submitted: 06/15/11

My husband and I cannot stop raving about John's incredible guest house. It was spacious, simply and tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. We were in town shopping for a new home but we still had business to tend to. The guest house allowed us both enough breathing room to work and to relax. We started our days on the private patio with a cup of coffee and enjoyed happy hour with Jake and Rusty poolside. John was available to answer questions with one phone call or knock on the door, otherwise we never knew he was there. Thank you John for making us feel at home & we do plan on returning.

Guest: Dieter (Germany)
Date of Stay: 03/24/11 Review Submitted: 04/01/11

That was really a perfect stay, absolutely uncomplicated and unconstrained ...! John has been a perfect host ... very gentle + helpful in any situation, yet invisible. The house is perfect and loving furnished with a huge grassy backyard for sming, relaxing, playing, whatever you want to do. And his four-legged friends ... you must love them ...! The location is very close to everything. I enjoyed my stay very much, the time was running too fast unfortunately ...! I highly recommend the house with the "Golden" door ...! Thanks John ... and Rusty + Jake ...!

Peter's (Central Coast - California)

Guest: Peter (Central Coast - California)
Date of Stay: 02/12/11 Review Submitted: 03/27/11

This was a perfect get-a-way place to escape to. First of all, the place was able to accommodate our whole family, yes, dogs as well :). We rented the very spacious 1 bedroom guesthouse and it was just beautiful. JL was so accommodating and a gracious host. Very quiet and private. The large green grass back yard with pool were immaculately kept and there was a small private patio off of the guest house kitchen for the dogs to lie in the sun. Absolutely recommend to anybody who wants to be pampered and not get caught up in those outrageously high priced hotels.

Tranquil!

Guest: Nancy (Sacramento, CA)
Date of Stay: 01/20/11 Review Submitted: 01/20/11

The view; the sweet sweet dogs; John, your gracious host: for so very many reasons, this is a WONDERFUL place to stay. And if you like MCM architecture, you can take walks in the immediate neighborhood to see gems restored, those in transition, and those still needing some TLC. Downtown is not far--a 5 minute bike ride--but it's so peaceful at the house you might not ever head out. In short: enjoy!

Palm Springs beauty...

don't tell anyone about this accommodation.....sh!!! Keep it a secret....otherwise there will never be any vacancies. We had two wonderfull weeks guests at John's home, and wished we had stayed longer!. The apartment we rented (the larger of the two available) was more than we anticipated by far!. A fabalous bathroom - superb king sized bed, fully equipped kitchen, dining room with access to a private outside deck with table and chairs and bbq. The apartment is beautifully decorated - in colours thatcan do nothing but make you feel warm and happy., and the best supply of current magazines of all tastes and books to wile away hours. John, the owner is a charmiing man, he is the perfecrt host, and his Satuday night film salon is a must. Remember , don't spread the word too far it's a secret, otherwise there will be no room for us next year....sh!!!! We have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation, it is private and quiet, and you will love Jake and Rusty. A car will be an asset to have to go to various restaurants and galleries, all close by, but more convenient with a vehicle.

Upscale, Easy, and Comfortable

Guest: Anita26 (LA)
Date of Stay: 07/02/10 Review Submitted: 07/09/10

Wow what a wonderful place! I was very impressed with how much time and effort John put into this place. The yard was awesome! We BBQ'd and played with the Dogs and had great conversations with John. Most of the time he was truly invisible. Inside was so clean, upscale, and comfortable. My husband and I enjoyed the large shower and large space of every room. There was also a side yard which was nice in case we wanted privacy. The location of the house was really close to everything. I would recommend this place to everyone. The pictures are great but when I saw it with my own eyes...WOW...I was soooo happy I decided to stay here!

The perfect retreat from the big city rat race

Guest: Beth & Greg (LA)
Date of Stay: 05/30/10 Review Submitted: 06/01/10

My husband and I found this lovely place when we planned a last minute getaway over Memorial Weekend. This place truly looks just like the pictures-- it is adorable and has been decorated with care. Also, there are ceiling fans that kept the place comfortably cool and were quiet enough to run all night (a perk for any fellow light sleepers out there...) The owner, John, was extremely welcoming and helpful. He made himself very available in case we needed anything, and yet we also had complete privacy. (An example of his hospitality: He gave us the shady car port so that our vehicle would stay cool while he parked his own car in the driveway-- aww!) We used the pool a lot, and there's also a private back patio behind the attached guest house which isn't pictured above. We ate dinner outside and just enjoyed the peace and quiet. It's close to the main strip in Palm Springs, and we felt very safe in the surrounding neighborhood as well. I would definitely recommend this place-- we are looking forward to staying again.
