Stayed here for 4 nights in early August so that we could hike and sight-see in the region. Property owner was quick to respond to our inquiry and easy to deal with, but when we arrived in Cooke City, the local manager was not aware that we had booked the cabin, so it was not ready. However, she was pleasant about it and went to clean and prepare the cabin right away. In the meantime, we browsed and had coffee in Cooke City, so it was not a problem. I suggest calling her ahead of time to confirm that she has your reservation information. The cabin is just as pictured on VRBO, a few miles outside of Cooke City, in a quiet area with good views of the mountains. The road in is a little rough in spots, but we did not have any trouble in our Subaru. We saw deer most mornings and evenings. The cabin is tidy and clean, with lots of windows to take in the views, and a nice deck for sitting out, if the mosquitoes are not too bad. There are also lots of books about the region, plus some novels. We did not try out the TV or videos. The bedroom is small but comfortable, including some shelves and chest of drawers for clothes. The loft is very small – watch your head! But the mattresses are comfortable and there is a window to look out. The log ladder is a little hard to negotiate. It would be a lot easier if they flattened the rungs, and gave it a little bit of a lean towards the wall. The ground level has a single size futon and a tiny cubby-hole bed, which might be nice for a kid. Kitchen is a bit tight, but it is equipped with everything we needed: 2-burner stove, small fridge (second fridge on the ground level), sink, coffee maker, pots/pans, dishes, etc. Plenty of towels, etc in the bathroom. It’s great having washer/dryer available. Overall, a nice place to stay, and a great “home base” for adventures in the surrounding National Forest and Beartooth Wilderness. Probably best for one person, a couple, or a small family. Tips: Fuel up your car and shop for groceries in Red Lodge or Cody before you get to Cooke City, because it is a rather remote town and goods are expensive. There is no cell service at the cabin or in Cooke City. If you have a laptop, there is free wireless at the Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Center, though you need to get a code from them to use it.
