The Marsh Mellow House-Near Kingston Plantation, Myrtle Beach
Year Purchased: 2000
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
We have been vacationing in Myrtle Beach for well over 40 years. It's always been our favorite place for a family vacation because of the variety of activities available to our family. REALLY - there's something for everyone at Myrtle Beach!
When our daughters were younger, we would spend our vacation at the beach, playing putt-putt, spending an evening at the amusement park, making short day trips (Wilmington, Southport, Georgetown, Polly's Island, Calabash, Charleston), biking, a bit of golf, eating out and eating in, playing games, visiting animal parks, shopping, boating, and just spending time with each other.
Now our daughters have their own children and we're doing the same types of things that we once did with our daughters . . . there's just a larger group.
We invite you to create your own memories at The Marsh Mellow House!
The Unique Benefits at this House
At this time in our lives, we thoroughly enjoy sitting on our deck and just watching the birds in the Marsh. The Marsh changes its' appearance throughout the year, so the view always seems to be different. AND . . . there's an abundance of birds for those of you who enjoy watching Egrets soar through the air and Herons.
We enjoy eating in a lot more and the deck, with the Marsh view, is the best place at the beach to spend a long evening of eating and talking with our family and guests.
Of course, the beach is always the main attraction and never fails to deliver a great time . . . as long as you keep applying sunscreen. Chairs and umbrellas are available for rent if you plan on spending a half or entire day at the beach. Sometimes we'll walk under the pier and visit The Embassy Suites Pool for drinks, snacks and a dip in the pool.
The grandchildren always love to go on adventures and are always asking, "what are we going to do today?" So, we take them on small trips to Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, the Aquarium, Amusement Parks, Putt-Putt, local parks and ice cream. Believe me, Myrtle Beach has many attractions for children!
Golf is often a choice for the adults, but we seem to spend more time doing other things. If interested, discounted golf packages can be arranged.
I paint, and the view of the marsh is a great place for inspiration and actual painting. Cards and games are a great pass time for us and we love to read. Oh . . . and there's plenty of choices for eating out. I've indicated some of our favorite places in the Guest Register.
A great place to go for a break from the beach - food, drinks, pool and often . . . music
We usually take a group of people and beach toys down in the car, then the driver returns to the house with the car and makes the short walk back. There's parking, but it's very limited. With cell p
Walk through the beautiful grounds of Kingston Plantation and stop by Embassy Suites, or The Hilton for food and beverage.
An easy walk for food and beverage. This is a nice place to walk in the evening for drinks and food in the outside bar.
John often walks our dog to the store in the morning for coffee and the newspaper. There's a good restaurant right across the street.
There's also a Walmart close by, going North. If you don't want to deal with traffic, you can go to the beach, eat nearby or at the house and you'll never have to get onto the Highway. Again, this is
Delicious Food, great ambiance and they've lowered their prices with a new menu.
Great Oysters (Raw and Fried) They often have music. Check out the Happy Hour times and offerings. A bit divey but we love the food.
A bit overwhelming for a short trip, but a great place to go if you're shopping for lots of stuff and food.
A Shopper's Delight. Although it's not a mall, a large part of it has a covering to help with heat and rain. Some of our visitors have had to buy luggage for all their purchases.
Lots of shops, water walkways, places to eat, restaurants on the inland waterway, House of Blue, Live Theater.
Truly undisturbed land! You can arrange a tour, usually in the afternoon, no cost. Once you go on the tour, you are free to visit the place on your own during certain times. The beach is pristine -

John has an insurance agency in Kernersville called Russell & Cook Insurance. It represents Erie Insurance, Travelers, Progressive, Utica, Hartford and several other companies. John has over 40 years experience in the insurance industry and was the Predident of NC and SC PIA. He was also on the national board of PIA.
I started an advertising agency, The Russell Agency, in 1979 and sold it several years ago to employees. I now paint and own a gallery in Blowing Rock. Art & Artifacts, next to Mellow Mushroom on Sunset Drive. It offers art from well known regional artists and my art is also offered.
I'm originally from Indiana and Illinois and John is from Massachusetts and we met on Piedmont Airlines. I was a Flight Attendant and he was a passenger who had just moved to North Carolina from Massachusetts. We've lived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for well over forty years and it has been a wonderful place for our family.
John and I have two wonderful daughters (Suzi and Keli), great son-in-laws, and 4 terrific grandchildren who live nearby. We love taking our grandchildren to the beach and watching them fall in love with all the activities enjoyed by their mothers.
When you rent The Marsh Mellow House you will fall in love with the incredible marsh and the fun of a large vacation home!

Marsh Mellow House - perfect getaway

Fantastic house - highly recommend it for families and friendly getaways. Beautiful hardwoods, spacious rooms and wide open kitchen - not your typical rental unit. The house is a walk away from the beach and has a lovely view of the sunset (and the marsh) from the back deck. It is also very convenient to Tanger outlet malls, local attractions, and several local restaurants, but doesn't require you to go through the usual beach traffic to get there. The Marsh Mellow House is the best house (by far) that I have rented in Myrtle Beach, and will return again next summer.
Recommended for:Girls getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children.

The Marsh Mellow House is a wonderful place to well, mellow out. It's so relaxing in fact, that I didn't make it to the beach as much as I should have. The deck and view are outstanding, not to mention the cushy lounge chairs that are just steps from the kitchen (cocktails and snacks). When we did go out, we didn't have to go far. The location is located at the southern end of North Myrtle Beach. Tanger outlets, grocery stores, and quality restaurants are all located very close to the house so you don't even have to venture out onto Hwy 17 if you don't want to do so. The house is at the end of a quiet cul de sac. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds are very comfy!! We had a wonderful stay. Thanks again!!

I wanted to let you Know that you have a beautiful home and we all had a wonderful time. I am a Real estate Broker in NC and I want to say that it was amazing! We enjoyed the birds and watch the sunrise which was absolutely beatutiful. We have older kids and we thought that not having a pool would be a problem or my parents who we had to drive would be a problem but, your home made the difference. It was wonderul! You should be so proud of your investment! It is beautiful! Have a wonderful summer and we will check with you again and pass your location to our friends.

6 of my girlfriends and I rented this house for a long weekend get together. We were sad to see the "for sale" sign- we had such a great time we want to make it a tradition and come back! We almost stayed at a 3 bedroom condo in Kingston Plantation but are so happy we decided to stay here instead- we just enjoyed relaxing, cooking in the pretty kitchen with great views, eating and enjoying daiquiri's on the back deck looking out over the marsh! And we walked everywhere! It's close to everything you need but yet a private and relaxing location. And Judi's painting's were beautiful! We LOVED them! Thanks for a great place to stay! We loved it. Beautiful home.
Owner response:The Marsh Mellow House is a GREAT place to get together with friends and family. My sisters and parents will be enjoying a special retreat this month. No spouses or children (other than the four daughters and parents) My two brothers were also invited and might still join us for a day or two.

I had not taken a vacation in years and when I finally did I found that it was so easy to just relax and enjoy things. The area was quiet and the days were sunny and beautiful. You could walk easily to the beach or just sit on the deck and read. The locale was close to everything one could desire also for a night of fun. I would definitely stay here again.

The first sight of this southern home is the stately, wide curved stairs taking you to the entrance. After entering, the peaceful, comfortable appointed interior promises a serene retreat for the time spent here. The view from the deck is of a tranquil marsh busy with white egrets on the water. Quiet times reading or shared moments visiting with friends or relatives complete this beautiful vacation get-a-way. I highly recommend time spent in this home which is close to nature and close to a huge variety of entertainment offerings. You will want to return to this home the next time you plan your vacation.
