Touch the Sky from High Satulah Lodge - Views, Views, Views!

Year Purchased: 1998

Why the Owner Chose Highlands

We love the charming town of Highlands with its clean mountain air, unique shops, close proximity to our home in Atlanta and so many things to do. We bought this as a second home and have spent so much time, emotional energy and of course money, making it really special with a multi-phased upgrade and improvement projects. Allowing it to be rented was a big decision as it's so personal to us but it makes sense financially, so practicality finally won out.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The town of Highlands, shopping, many fine restaurant choices, lots of places to explore and nearby mountain attractions, waterfalls, hiking trails, antiquing, fall colors and so much more. It's all about the VIEWS!

We're from Sandy Springs, GA. We bought this property and 2 others as our "Classic Properties" to enjoy when we have time but we need to share them with others to defray expenses. One day they'll be back to levels where we are actually out ahead! All we need is for some really nice people who will enjoy our places and take care of them as if they were the owners.

Our family loved our stay at High Satullah! We went there for Thanksgiving with 3 generations of family members (6 people in all) and could not have been more pleased. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable- the view from the master was amazing! The bedroom and bath downstairs with its own kitchenette and screen porch was like it's own suite. The views from the deck were gorgeous and the telescope gave us a chance to enjoy the stars which were brilliant without the city lights. Only 2 miles from downtown Highlands made it easy to go in for a little shopping or dinner out and the long, hilly walks on the gravel roads in the neighborhood with 2 waterfalls provided us with lots of exercise. The owner and the realtor for the property were available by phone for questions and very helpful. We recommend Ruka's Table for dinner and their burger restaurant for lunch. Both are a short 3-5 minute drive from downtown and both serve delicious dishes with fresh locally grown ingredients including the beef!

Owner response:Katleen, thanks so much for taking the time to write a review for High Satulah Lodge. Another 5 STAR review at that. We are so pleased you found our gem enjoyable and found plenty to do. Walking and hiking opportunities as well as dining, casual to very fine, are only a few activities that most enjoy during their stay. Next time up be sure to try Cypress, our favorite restaurant. Nicholas, the owner and chef is great and quite creative. We took a cooking class at Cypress in early November, 2011 and although I usually don’t, well almost never, well to be truthful, never cook, Beryle and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The wine parings and camaraderie with the other class participants made it memorable. Bob and Beryle Slayden, owners of High Satulah Lodge

Winter Visit

Guest: Ron (Aiken,SC)
Date of Stay: 11/22/10 Review Submitted: 03/08/11

Great location and very comfortable. Only problems were limited parking space and cold temp downstairs during winter stay.

Owner response:Thanks for your kind comments and 5 star rating!. I assume you did not use the two wall supplemental heaters on the lowere level, they will make it cozy and toasty if you wished. This recent winter was brutal with 9-10 inches of snow plus ice, but we made it through just fine. Our new central Heat and A/C has also been serviced recently and a thermostat issue corrected. Also there is some supplemental parking on the lane just before the driveway and across the drive on the far side of the lane. We are continuously upgrading and umproving High Satulah Lodge and hope to have you back in the near future. Bob & Beryle Slayden HSL Owners

Our stay at High Satulah Lodge was delightful. The weather was perfect. In fact, we turned off the central air and opened the windows to enjoy the fresh mountain air all of our two week stay. The owner had a new gas grill purchased and set up through the rental company when he learned the old one no longer worked. The view is outrageous and the sunsets magnificent with a glass of wine or slice of cheese from Highlands Wine and Cheese Shop on Main Street. A long list of wonderful restaurants and seasonal hours was provided in advance by Barbara Newton, rental co. owner who stayed in contact with us our whole stay, either by phone or DSL at the house.
