Ocean View from Every Room! 1 Minute Walk to Beach
Year Purchased: 1985
Why the Owner Chose Oceanside
I've loved this home for over 25 years, having personally restored every inch of it from an aging 1920's beach cabin to a comfortable and cozy ocean view home. When I lived here, I was one of the founders of the local community college. I lived in this house with my young son in the 1980's and '90s. Many of the neighborhood kids were babysat here while we parents partied nearby at the community center. If you look closely, you can see where the kids left their mark on the play cubby walls upstairs (accessible only by a ladder) and here and there on the woodwork. To me, these are marks of Oceanside history and sweet reminders of times passed. Although we now live on the Mendocino Coast in Northern California, we love coming back to enjoy this special place. The house became a vacation rental in 2009. My husband and I travel by car 12 hours each way, with our two standard poodles, several times a year to tend to the needs of our Beach Treasure. Though sometimes we work almost nonstop, it is a labor of love and we hope you will enjoy our efforts.
The Unique Benefits at this House
This is an especially well appointed home, yet cozy, comfortable and inviting. Definitely not your typical vacation rental. You are close to the sounds and sights of the surf and it's just a one minute walk to the beach for most anyone. The beach at Oceanside is unlike many others. Its long expanse allows you to walk several miles in each direction. We manage a morning walk on the beach with the dogs every day. In the afternoons, we walk to Netarts and get our favorite Tillamook ice cream, currently Mudslide. No matter how hard we are working, we always take breaks whenever the paragliders or eagles soar by. Every visit, we hike at Cape Lookout and Cape Meares State Parks, have a good dinner at Roseanna's, and drink in the view along with margaritas on the deck. Cooking fresh oysters (only $5 a dozen!) on the grill is another favorite. Nearly every night is concluded in an attempt to get an even better sunset photo than we did the night before.
Some say Roseanna's is the best in the county. Great food and great view.
Bring home an easy meals of oysters and crab, but don't forget Tillamook ice cream for dessert.
Nice paved walk to the lighthouse and octopus tree with beautiful ocean vistas; or take the natural trails and find the bald eagles nesting.
Great rainy day place to sit and read the paper, play a game, talk to visitors and enjoy great coffee and light meal.
The hang gliders and parasailors jump off from here and fly past your your front window!
Nice little tavern and restaurant with a view of Netarts Bay. Eat outside and you can bring along Fido.
Owner's Map of Oceanside
My husband and I are semi-retirees in our mid-50's; he's a former electrical engineer and investments consultant, and I was a community college administrator. We now live on the Mendocino Coast in California, about 200 miles north of San Francisco. We love coming to this house and are happy to share it with you. It seems to bring out all the wonderful love we have, along with energizing us to take long walks and hikes, but balanced by creating delightful delicacies in the kitchen.

Perfect 40th Anniversary!

We loved this house! The views are wonderful. We had a great family time. There were 12 people at meals. The extra card table came in very handy. Most of us were able to stay at the house, a few at a nearby motel. There was laughter, games until midnight around the table, hugs all around. It was a great reunion of adult cousins, sisters, brothers and families. We cooked every meal in the well maintained kitchen. We used beach chairs, and hung out at the beach. We loved the sound of the surf as we drifted off to sleep. Some had day trips to Tillamook cheese factory, others to the beach, some to Cape Lookout and Cape Meares. We used the lattice to keep my sister's dog on the deck. Perfect! Our 4 year old granddaughter loved the hideout, and showed everyone the surprise when they entered the home. The three kids watched movies up in the TV room. It was great. We celebrated our 40th anniversary and our son and daughter in law's 7th anniversary on Sunday with mimosas and waffles! We were sad to leave. We will be back.
Owner response:I am SO glad your vacation turned out as dreamed. It's great to hear how well it works for multi-generation family get-togethers.

We have stayed at plenty of beach houses, but this one immediately rose to the top of our list of favorites. The location of the beautifully decorated, comfortable home was perfect. We could hear the ocean from our bedroom window, and the views everywhere are spectacular. The house was very much as advertised, with no unpleasant surprises. Everything we needed in the kitchen was there, the beds were comfortable, and the place was spotless. We had fantastic walks in all directions, and lucked out even with the weather. Various nearby cafes were fine, but our favorite activity was sitting on the deck with coffee or wine, watching the birds and checking out the sea lions through binoculars. We highly recommend this place and plan to return ourselves.

This is the second time I have stayed at this property, and I will continue to stay there as often as I possibly can. The view is wonderful, the porch is a great place to enjoy the sun, watch the birds and watch the activites of this very quaint town. We went walking on the beach, photographing the birds, had oysters and crab - the entire experience was fabulous. The beds are so comfortable!
Owner response:Thank you. So glad you had a good time. Please visit again soon.

This is a great little house and an easy walk down to the beach. We just hung around the house and baked cookies. The kitchen is very well stocked with just about every strange clam/oyster related gadget you can imagine. We picked this house because it looked like you could do some real cooking in it and we did. The best view in the whole house is from behind the sink. It's one of the few places on Earth where you might actually want to do the dishes. There's no real grocery nearby so you might consider stocking up in Tillamook on the way. There's a Safeway and a Fred Meyer -- and the Tillamook cheese factory, of course. The house is so comfy that I wouldn't recommend making too many plans. Just take it easy and play each day by ear. If you must venture out, make sure you go through the tunnel to the hidden beach and we highly recommend a field trip to Cape Meares, which is just a few miles away. Spectacular views and a friendly couple who run the gift shop. We uploaded a video of our trip to YouTube which includes a brief tour of the house... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xnfbzYbOqk We'd definitely stay there again. Our only complaint is that somebody circled Waldo in the Where's Waldo books. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but we'll abide.
Owner response:THANK YOU! I am SO happy that you enjoyed your stay and shared it with others. You seemed to have had as much fun as we do when we are there. We recognized all the same places in your video! And recently, we got to enjoy it with our daughter and her family, too. Priceless! Thank you again, for sharing. I'm setting up a Facebook page for the house so look for that soon. Barbara

We had a great experience with our daughter, her husband and two kids. We hadn't seen the kids in two years and really needed to get together. We live 12 hours apart by car, so this was a great half way point. The children had never been to the ocean, at least in their memory, so we got to show them the beach. Even though it rained a lot that weekend, there were plenty of games to play with the kids and enjoy one another. I wouldn't trade the weekend for anything, but sunshine would have made it better. We plan to come back this summer and stay at this same house as it had everything we needed--privacy for the adults, mom and dad nearby for the kids, and they allowed our dog. Thank you so much for that. He's part of our family and we didn't want to pay for a kennel nor leave him alone.

We tumbled into the place like a home- coming! Both completely comfortable and very tastefully decorated, we used it as a launchpad for the roughly skazillion parks nearby- and then as homebase for numerous oyster dinners and sunset photo competitions. We absolutely loved it and can't wait to find an opening to come back! Oh yeah! Our friends can't believe there's a doorway in the town's beachside cliff to the other side where there's ANOTHER beautiful beach! And oh yeah! Bald eagles! When we weren't all competing for the ultimate sunset shot ( they're better with some clouds swirled in) we went after nature shots. And close-ups of bald eagles were the favorite subject! And oh yeah! Go to Tillamook Cheese - we got some outrageous black pepper cheddar we've never seen at home and with Oregon wine we picked up on the way... Ah bliss!

Fabulous Views of the Pacific

We enjoyed the fabulous views of the Pacific from every western facing window. The home was bright with natural light, very comfortable, and had all amenities to make our stay delightful. It was a short walk to the beach. We saw hundreds of sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks, bald eagles soaring above, as well as a hang glider floating from the cliffs down to the beach. You can walk the beach for miles cutting through a tunnel in the rocks to reach adjacent coves. Fresh oysters were available for grilling. The restaurant in the center of Oceanside was deligtful with fine food and excellent desserts! It is a short jaunt to many wineries famous for their pinots, national forrests for hiking, numerous lighthouses to explore, and Tillamook cheese and dairy products to sample at their main factory.
