Welcome to the Horse Butte Hideaway!
This rental condominium is located in the mountains of Montana just minutes from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
The condominium offers spectacular mountain views, easy backcountry access, a large hot tub, and an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts (summer only).
It has a full-size kitchen, wood fireplace, laundry facilities, wireless internet, TV, and a living room view of Yellowstone Park. It is a one-bedroom unit with a hide-a-bed couch in the living room, so it easily sleeps four.
There is abundant wildlife and hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, skiing and snowmobiling trails. We also have other units available and can combine one and two bedroom units to accommodate larger groups.
It is accessible by paved road but sits in a secluded area on the Horse Butte peninsula of Hebgen Lake, 9 miles outside the town of West Yellowstone.
It offers spectacular mountain views and is surrounded by Forest Service Land. Yellowstone Park is 15 minutes away, the Gallatin National Forest is less than one minute away, and the two main arms of Hebgen Lake are five minutes either way.
West Yellowstone has its own charms, with both summer and winter time activities, museums, theaters, dining and shopping.
The fishing, skiing, wildlife watching and geyser gazing are world renowned. Come stay in this quiet mountain retreat and spend time exploring this adventurer's wonderland! Clean but dull
Guest: GR

Date of Stay: 09/07/11
Review Submitted: 09/14/11
Although the unit was clean inside, it had no personality. Very outdated and dull. Nothing on the inside that made it feel homey - no pictures on walls, empty bookcases, outdated TV with rabbit ears. We also ended up with interior unit, which made it very dark inside with all the dark furniture so make sure you ask for an outside one. It had a small deck but you didn't want to go out there because the carpet was covered with bird dung and we even saw mouse droppings out there. Just as well as there was nothing to sit on anyway. Exterior needed painting and repairs - paint peeling.Office was to be open from 9 until 3 but, even getting back before 3 and wanting to rent a DVD player, the office was closed. We have stayed in four VRBO rentals and this one ranks at the bottom. Would recommend friends and family stay elsewhere even if they have to pay more.
Owner response:As a manager of this unit, I would like to respond this guest’s comments. First let me express that we are sorry that the experience was not what they had hoped for. We pride ourselves on working to make a visit with us pleasant and memorable (in a good way!). We discovered the missing art right after this guest left - we were startled to see nothing but nails in the walls! The situation was remedied right away and we regret that the cleaning crew didn’t notify anyone in the office about the problem before these folks got here. One of the best things about a summer in our area is all of the wildlife activity. While we try to ensure that the critters remain outside where they can be seen from a safe distance, sometimes our best intentions are thwarted by all of the animals trying to make the most of a short summer season. The bird droppings mentioned were due to a nest on that balcony in which three young chicks were being raised right before our very eyes! We did feel the need remove the chairs, as we were certain the parents would perch (and mess) on the backs and seats. We replaced the chairs as soon as the fledglings left the nest. We do our best to allow the animals space when they need it, and plan on gently encouraging the birds to find a more appropriate place to nest next summer, but couldn’t bear to remove the nest with its eggs once it was discovered! The unit these people stayed is and interior unit which has windows at either end, so it isn’t as bright inside as a corner outside unit, especially with the front curtains closed. We do have corner units available that are much brighter due to large windows in the living room with sliding glass doors out onto the private balcony. Our units book early in the season, so a last minute reservation will limit our options on where we can accommodate you, but we always do our best to get each guest the best unit available when they book their stay. Due to the nature of managing a small condominium complex, we are not always inside of the office during business hours. Our office hours can vary, however we do have phone numbers to call for immediate service posted on the door, as well as printed on all check-in documents. Someone is always available! A guest has just to call any of those numbers, and we are available to help in any way possible. Again, we regret that this guest had a less than pleasurable experience, and hope they will return to give us another chance!
