This historical property has been only owned by three families. Originally built for Captain Caleb Cook in 1850, this Gothic Revival home is located with an unobstructed view of Provincetown Harbor from Wellfleet to Long Point Lighthouse. The downstairs 10' ceilings give the rooms a spacious feeling and the views only get better as you go to the second floor.

In 1900, E. Ambrose Webster purchased the home from Captain Cook. Webster was one of the most important modernist painters of the 20th century and was chosen to hang two paintings in the historic 1913 Armory Show with Marcel Duchamp among others. Webster is the subject of a 224 page book to accompany his groundbreaking show at the Greenville Museum which opened last year to rave reviews. Several of the paintings illustrated in Gail Scott's new book entitled "Chasing the Sun" were painted from the house and artists continue to paint in front of the house. Webster enjoyed the bright sunlight of Provincetown on his canvas as well as in his home.

Eight foot windows with a southern exposure onto Provincetown harbor make this parlor room a place to be regardless if it's 8 am or 8 pm. With the unobstructed view of the harbor comes the welcoming sea breeze 24 hours a day. A lawn with gas grill, patio table & chairs allows you to take in all this sweet charm.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2008

We absolutely had to purchase this home and now want to share this home with you. You will be staying in the 3 BR house that is attached to a 2 BR house where we live. There is also a 1 BR cottage on the property that is already a in a year lease. Jim is the Director at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum and lives in Provincetown year round. Russ is a Protein Chemist at Genzyme Corporation and spend 40+ weekends in Provincetown. Both of us love the town and all it has to offer. Being surrounded by ocean on three sides makes this place very special. The winters are mild and the summer days do not get too hot during the heat waves of New England.

Why the Owner Chose Provincetown

This house was purchase as an upgrade from our existing house in the East End. We lived in a 3BR house for 13 years and saw this 7 BR complex and had to have the property. The rest is history.

The Unique Benefits of this Three Bedroom House

This house has the best of both worlds of Provincetown. You can just come to the town enjoy the house the beaches and not even have to deal with the crowds of Provincetown. Maybe a little crowd at the Stop and Shop on the weekends. Or, you can just have the great house with the great views and still walk 10 minutes to all the fun. We both enjoy both sides of this house where you can have both quiet time and all the entertainment that Provincetown has to offer. The house is located between two significant and quiet places to stay, Aerie House and Snug Cottage. Having two B&B's next door allows the evenings to be much quieter without having any commercial businesses near for the evening crowds. All that commercialism is left a block down the hill to Commercial street. That's is what makes this place the best of both worlds of Provincetown.
