Location: Glenwood Springs, Northwest, Colorado, USA (178 Miles from Denver Airport; 25 Miles from Eagle Airport)

Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 9-12)

Keywords:  House

Walter’s No Name House is situated on the banks of No Name Creek, near the Colorado River where it flows through beautiful Glenwood Canyon. Nestled down by the creek, it is not even visible from the road.

From this lovely secluded spot you have access to year-round outdoor recreation options: hiking, fly fishing, cycling, rafting, swimming, skiing - downhill and cross-country - and snowshoeing. In Glenwood Springs the wonderful Hot Springs Pool, Vapor Caves Spa & Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park are open year-round. Field and Stream named Glenwood Springs the Best Fishing Town in America. In town and up the Roaring Fork Valley are a number of excellent restaurants.

The house at No Name has 3 levels. The main floor has living, kitchen and dining areas, master bedroom & bath. Upstairs is a sleeping loft with half bath. There is an interesting architectural feature which some call a meditation room attached by an outside walkway to the upstairs sleeping loft. Downstairs from the main level is a large 'dormitory' room with adjacent full bath, a small bedroom with a sink, microwave and refrigerator, and a laundry room. A covered porch runs along one side of the house and there's a large deck off the back of the main level that overlooks the creek.
Our place is an affordable lodging alternative for Rocky Mountain skiing and snow sports. Sunlight, the local ski area, is an easy 15 mile drive and has cross-country as well as downhill skiing. It is a small family-friendly ski resort featuring reasonable rates for lifts and lessons (e.g.: adult tickets are $50, compared to $90 - $95 in Aspen-Snowmass) and a beautiful view of Mt. Sopris.

Snowmass Village and the three Aspen Ski mountains are only 40-45 miles away, an easy drive on 4-lane Highway 82. Beaver Creek Ski Area is 50 miles east on IH 70. There are a number of good snowshoeing areas in and around Glenwood Springs. After a day of skiing, visit the Hot Springs pool for a soak, or the Vapor Caves to steam and/or have a massage.

In the warmer months, enjoy cycling, hiking, swimming and rafting, and Glenwood Caverns & Adventure Park which features an aerial tramway, cavern tours, and some amazing-looking "thrill rides." Glenwood Canyon Resort, which is just up the road a half mile from the house, rents bikes and offers raft trips, and there are a number of rafting services in town that do also.

We are surrounded by National Forest land with hiking trails for all levels. Just down the road from the house is a paved hike & bike trail that goes into town, an easy walk/ride. The same trail takes you east through the entire length of Glenwood Canyon on 13 miles of paved hike & bike trail.

Guests should be aware that there is an elevation drop from the road/garage down to the house and creek of about 20 - 25 feet, and access to the house from the garage is by two flights of outdoor stairs. In addition, the house has 3 interior levels connected by stairs. Our one-legged father was able to negotiate all of these and there are grab bars and railings throughout, but you should consider this if your travel plans include folks with mobility impairments, or who are frail.

Good Location!

Guest: gaurav s.
Date of Stay: 12/20/11 Review Submitted: 12/27/11

Nice place, nice location. Would definetely recommend for a cozy place in winter (that's when we lived) and seems to be a fun place for summer too. Kitchen was awesome, stocked with all utensils and other basic needs. Go for it! p.s. The stairs going down to the house are next to the garage. Locating the entrance to the house was a little challenge in the night time so remember this tip.

Owner response:We will make sure we always leave the front porch light on for late arrivals!

Perfect Get Away Home

Guest: Dar (Lakewood, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 07/02/11 Review Submitted: 08/02/11

This home is absoutely fabulous for a relaxing get away or a home base for lots of activities in the area. We were here for 1 week and the 1st few days we just stayed close to home because it was so relaxing! No Name creek was a wonderful roaring river because of the very high spring run-off and just lulled us to sleep at night. The bike trail next to the Colorado river was just down the street, so everyone did their morning walks or jogs in an incredible setting. There were 6 of us, 2 young adults and 4 middle aged adults. The house is so big and spread out that everyone could have their own space if needed:) I highly recommend this house for a vacation or a long weekend. There are numerous summer activities in the surrounding area that would accommodate a variety of interests. I will definitely rent this house again. The only downside is that from the garage just off the street you do need to go down 2 flights of stairs to get to the house. So unloading and loading your stuff takes a little more effort. However, that's what makes it more remote and relaxing.

Owner response:Thanks! Look forward to having you back.

Superb Location and Accommodations for Golf Outing

Guest: Bob (Denver, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 10/02/10 Review Submitted: 12/19/10

We had an outstanding time on our golf outing "buddies trip" in and around Glenwood Springs the first week of October, and the accommodations at Walter's at No Name were wonderful. The house was spacious, comfortable, and well appointed, yet cozy enough to provide a social setting for meals and relaxing for eight. And, with the location at No Name, it fit our needs perfectly being about 20 minutes from the golf courses we played. After golf on Monday at River Valley Ranch, (and pizza and beer following our round ), I was even able to enjoy a nice ride on my mountain bike from Carbondale back to Walter's along the Rio Grande and Glenwood Canyon trails. From relaxing on the wrap-around deck, to listening to the quiet run of the creek, everyone enjoyed our time in No Name . If I hear of someone looking for a large place to stay in the Glenwood area, I'll certainly tell them to inquire about Walter's at No Name. And if this group pulls together again for another golf trip to the area, you will hear from us again.

Owner response:Walter would be particularly pleased that golfers are enjoying his house! Book your golfing (or skiing, or rafting, or fishing) trip now!

A Fantastic find

Guest: Yvonne (Kent)
Date of Stay: 08/07/10 Review Submitted: 09/01/10

We had the most wonderful start to our second Colorado holiday. We arrived feeling a little worried that it would not live up to our first stay in Colorado in 2008. Our fears left as soon as we saw this house. It was the first of 4 we stayed in over our 2 week holiday and remained the favourite. The location was perfect, it was relaxing and very quiet and yet so close to the main road into Glenwood Springs, the bike trail and the rafting trips. We loved every minute, this house is quirky, fun and very comfortable. We hope to be back.

Family vacation

Guest: Ranger Rick (Ft. Collins, CO)
Date of Stay: 07/29/10 Review Submitted: 08/10/10

A very pleasant retreat. Easy access to I70 but well secluded and quiet. The garage is a real plus! The deck overlooking the creek provided a restful place to lounge and listen to the calming sound of the water. The information notebook in the house was very helpful. Two older people, one with 2 artificial knees, 2 children and one grandson had a very good time at Walter's No Name House.

WNNH By JP

My family all decided that we would like to meet up and get together for the 4th of July. We found Walter's No Name House and were able to book the house with no issues. Janet & Amy were easy to work with and addressed any questions very quickly. There are a few items that need updated in the house (like a broken water pipe in the basement), but overall the house was wonderful. Even though we were just minutes from Glenwood Springs, the house was nestled right next to the creek and you felt like you were away in the mountains. We would definitely rent this vacation house again.

New England meets Glenwood!

Guest: LBM (Boulder, CO)
Date of Stay: 04/29/10 Review Submitted: 06/11/10

My daughter and I met 5 friends at the airport and drove to Walter's No Name Cabin at the end of April. It was a terrific place to stay. Plenty of room, privacy even with 7 of us. The kitchen was well stocked and planned out well so that 5 of us could work on an evening meal at once! About the third day we realized that there were hundreds of trout in the stream which runs directly by the cabin and my daughter is a fly fisher-woman (pro). She and my best friend's daughter fished for hours and one caught her first fish. They caught and released many fish as they had come up from the Colorado to the No Name Creek to spawn. We ate all of our meals in and visited the spa and hot springs every day (5 min from the house!). I would go back in a second.

What a magical place! I had the pleasure of staying here a couple of years ago and didn't want to leave. To sleep with the creek running down below was fantastic! I can't wait to come back! Oh, and Glennwood Springs is just down the road - that is the best part!!!
