  My group needed a place to spend the night during a hastily planned weekend trip to Portland. While other owners on the site were concerned about the short notice, duration of our stay, and more, our host at Johns Landing Retreat was happy to put us up, worked quickly to get the trip organized, and was incredibly kind in all her communications. When we arrived, there was a note pointing to fresh-picked apples in the refrigerator. After we left, the host mailed me an iPad charger we'd accidentally left behind. The location is wonderful, with easy access to the busier areas of Portland, but the house itself nestled in a quiet neighborhood. If you're hungry, there are two or three restaurants only a couple blocks away. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxed and pleasant experience, and considering the fantastic service we received, I feel a little guilty about not writing a review until months later. :D

  We stayed at Portland for Christmas, and the location of the property is perfect. It's closed to downtown and in a quiet neighbourhood. The house was very clean, and Jana was very friendly and careful to set everything right.

  We just returned from our two week vacation with our two boys ( ages 6 and 10) at the fantastic johns landing retreat! This house has the perfect location, it is clean, modern and provides everything a family needs for a perfect Portland vacation! The owners were so sweet and even brought books and cookies for the kids! We will be back for sure, thank you for a relaxing and fun vacation!

  We really enjoyed this property. It was in a very convenient area for us - near our children, grocery stores, coffee shops, and local restaurants. The property was immaculate inside and had a beautifully landscaped yard. We were very comfortable staying there and would recommend it as a good place to stay.

  Great little house in a location VERY convenient to both downtown and Alberta St. Extremely clean, and the amenities were well-provided. Four adults and one pre-schooler did just fine here, and we really liked being just a short trip from both an excellent park and an organic grocery store. Nice to have a gas stove and walk-in shower, and the yard is well-tended. Beds were comfortable, DVD player works but is on the older side. Absolutely fine for kidstuff. One cautionary note: the driveway ramp is a bit steep. I have a little Volvo and the angle of the driveway was enough to rip up lower edge of the front bumper - one that was just fully replaced and paint-protected three weeks prior after a freak road-debris incident. I don't have another $500 to fix it. If you have a lower car, opt for street parking.

  We had an excellent stay at the Johns Landing Retreat. 2 grandparents, 2 parents, and an almost 3 year old fit perfectly. The house is simply, but pleasantly furnished, and the backyard is fabulous! (And we lucked out with super weather.) I would especially recommend the house to families with young kids. Our little one was thrilled with the toys provided (always more fun to have new things, than the same old things brought from home). Helpful, friendly owner. We would stay again.

  This home was recently the setting for a mini family reunion, and it was great! 6 adults stayed in the home in complete comfort. One person is in a wheelchair, and he was able to move about the house without any problems, as the doorways, bathroom and bedrooms are spacious enough to accommodate a wheelchair. The location is perfect, and the neighborhood is adorable... close to downtown, yet without the noise. The owners are amazingly kind, and no detail is overlooked. You definitely won't regret staying here! We had a wonderful stay!

  My family and I took a vacation to Portland in December because, even though neither of us had been there, we are planning to move to the area next year. The house is simply decorated, yet it feels cozy and comfortable. Everything we needed was provided. The lack of clutter made it perfect for our 2 year old and 11 month old to essentially play freely. Toys/books, changing mat, playcribs with sheets, a highchair, sippies, bowls and utensils, and a stroller were provided for them which made packing for the plane hassle-free. The house in general was charming and set in a quiet, beautiful, historical neighborhood. (We LOVED the neighboorhood and put it on our top 3 places we'd like to live.) We also found it very convenient that nice sit-down restaurants were within walking distance, and quite enjoyed strolling our kids in the rain! One other last thought - the neighborhood itself is quiet and relaxing but also close to the activity of the city which makes it a great location for people wanting both kinds of experiences. What a great vacation we had! We would highly recommend John's Landing Retreat to anyone wanting to get away in Portland.

  A destination wedding recently brought us to Portland. It was the first time in the city and we are so glad that we found John's Landing Retreat! The place was clean, comfortable and had everything to make our visit feel just like home. Even a fresh loaf of homemade Banana bread waiting for us upon our arrival! There was even a beautifully landscaped garden to sit and have your morning coffee or even enjoy a glass of wine in the evening! You won't regret it if you choose to stay here.

  I stayed in John's Landing Retreat this summer with 6 others while we were all in Portland for a friend's wedding. It was such a cozy, wonderful place to spend a weekend with close friends and really made our trip memorable. The backyard was delightful and it was great to have everyone in the same home. The entire house was neat and clean and the kitchen well stocked. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for an affordable and cozy place to stay in Portland.
