The pictures do not do justice to this charming cottage! The lawn slopes to the river, where we were pleasantly surprised to find a riverside beach. It was great – we blew up the inner tubes, tied them to the dock, and floated the afternoons away on the river. The dogs loved swimming there too! The owners were very friendly and informative. I had also mistakenly left some things behind - and they were kind enough to mail them to me along with the refund of my security deposit. The location was great – located in the country, but close enough to Grand Haven and Lake Michigan beaches. There is a public golf course close by. It was very peaceful in the evening, and great for stargazing. There is a fire pit and they supplied plenty of wood for a bonfire. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The washer and dryer were a great convenience. We had a great time, and i strongly recommend the Captain's Cottage!

We were lucky enough to be able to rent the captains cottage for a week in July (2011). It was all the comforts of home on vacation. We felt right at home on the very first day. The fishing on the dock was great, the kids hung out there alot. The small 'beach' was great for the lil ones to make castles and collect shells. Had a camp fire every night, and grilled out too! One of the best perks was the kids were never board with t.v, dvd player, games in the closet, and chair to sit out by the fire. I loved having a washer and dryer (with a clothes line too) as I didn't have a mountain of clothes to do when we got home. We were planning an out of state trip next year, but the kids are already begging to come back.

I spent the month of June in this quaint cottage. This is the perfect location to relax, read, write, walk and enjoy the river. The cottage is exactly as pictured. It was great having a washer and dryer. There is also a clothes line to hang out the sheets and pillow cases, as I did, for a wonderful fresh air smell. Grand Haven is a short ride away where I enjoyed shopping, the museum and antiquing. Grand Rapids is only 30 minutes to the east and an easy drive. My 2 small dogs have never had such freedom as they did here. They were in heaven!! I saw more varieties of birds than I've ever seen in my life. I had my family to the cottage a few different weekends and cooked on the gas grill provided by my very accommodating landlords, Roger and Tricia. I recommend the Captain's Cottage for families and couples who want to relax but still have easy access to the sights and amenities of the lake shore towns and villages.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.
