The Martin Family opens the gates for you to come and experience historic Fort Loudon, Pennsylvania. Our home, Loudon Forge, was built in 1783 by James Chambers the son of Benjamin the founder of Chambersburg. Here, James and his family drank rest and peace from a bubbling mountain stream, serene woods, and cool mountain air.
The iron forge he operated out of a tiny stone office (now our kitchen) harnessed the power of the Conococheague Creek to wrought tools and implements of iron for the Fort Loudon community and beyond. A pioneer and leader, General James Chambers also served in the Revolutionary War under George Washington. History tells the story of our land, rooted in the rest, vision, invention, and courage that James Chambers exemplified.
It is in the Spirit of rest and creativity that we swing wide the gates of this quaint entry cottage of Loudon Forge to you, our friends, both old and unmet. We furnished the Gatehouse to be a respite from schedules, cell phones, and traffic jams—a place to rest, think, and envision yet go from to continue on (we hope) a more focused and purposeful journey.
We offer the comforts and niceties for your vacation getaway. Our central location connects you with a fishing boat, ski slopes, golf course, outlet store or Big City (if you really want to go there!) The Gatehouse is family friendly and accommodating.

Located 7 minutes from Cowans Gap State Park, which includes swimming, boating, fishing, hiking/biking trails. We are also only 20 minutes from Whitetail Ski Resort and Golf Club.

One step forward and two steps back never felt so right! Back into the Gatehouse of days gone by. Free from politics, commercials and pop royalty. Back to nature at Cowan's Gap State Park with rejuventating walks on summer days to take in the bounty of God's green earth. Back in time to Fort Loudon, Philly, D.C., and Gettysburg. Able to take in the process of creating the freedoms we as U.S. Citizens enjoy like no place else. Back away from the world to live, enjoy, love. Thank you and God Bless. Lots & Debbie, Michigan
