The Caspian Lake beach is nearby, and many miles of beautiful groomed trails for skiing or hiking begin at the Highland Lodge, 1/2 mile away. I have had the pleasure of renting the house in the winter, fall as well as summer. The location is ideal, close to lake, beautiful quite road to walk and take the dog for a hike. The house has great trails as well. The amenities were terrific with everything you need in the kitchen and elsewhere. Having internet, a washer dryer and access to long distance phone is awesome. The open layout of the house makes it ideal for relaxing inside and the beautiful property and porches makes it ideal for relaxing outside. The winter time is magical, with a great fireplace and the house was warm and comfortable. As someone that has vacationed in Greensboro for 14 years, this house was the perfect find. We love the lake, the library, Willey's Country Store, Hazendale Farm for fresh vegetables, rides to Hardwick to shop at Buffalo Mountain Food Co-op and Connie's Kitchen for the best pies and lunch. And if you like gold or tennis there's Mountainview Country Club. If you don't feel like cooking some nights there is always great dinners at Highland Lodge as well as a great restaurant in Hardwick called Claire's. Never a problem finding activities, concerts, and stuff for kids. I highly recommend it as a vacation spot for any season.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Hmmm... There might well be gold at the Mountainview CC, but ...maybe golf would be a safer bet: mvccvt.com

This house puts you in the middle of nature while providing easy comfort. The house has a wonderful flow, with many rooms to gather in. It's a very pretty place, with lovely touches to delight the eye. The surroundings are fabulous, with small hiking areas on the property and other bigger hikes possible nearby. You'll feel isolated and connected at the same time. A great place for extended families or reunions or parties, or even the lucky individual or couple who wants beauty and pleasure. We're going back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

What a surprise! Coming round the bend on a wide, well-maintained gravel road, you spot a large, modern home on a hillside, perfectly framed by a tall, dense mixed forest on three sides and a broad apron of cut grass out front. The interior shows off the design talents of the owners, a true artist's palette of good taste. Plenty of room, plenty of light, plenty of charm. You won't want to leave!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks, Jacques! ... Guess we won't let our lawn grow into a meadow just yet... Next time you should plan a longer stay!

A very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Secluded but convenient to town and Highland Lodge. Sunroom for breakfast, good fireplace for cool evenings, well equiped kitchen. A perfect home for a Greensboro holiday!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: It is very cozy, even in the dead of winter. It really is a passive solar house

We always have a wonderful time in Vermont but I have to say that your rental made our visit even better. A perfect location, tucked away but with all necessities nearby. Not only did we enjoy wandering the trails and the beautiful hidden brook, but the house itself was great. Spacious & nicely decorated rooms with all the comforts of home... and you have no idea how convenient (2) bathrooms can be! An awesome deck with an impressive view. Thanks for sharing your home ~ we loved it and hope to rent again in the future!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: "All the necessities nearby" being at Willey's Store! And the intoxicating fragrance of the woods being right behind the house. We have tried to stock the house with everything we've ever packed and hauled up to Vermont before we had this house, and everything our large, diverse family wants for our own vacations, now summer and winter. It's nice sharing during the times we can't be there!

Imagine a scenic wonderland of masses of flowers in bloom, rolling hills and mountains to view from an upper deck, glorious woodland complete with fauna, and you - drinking your morning coffee while waiting for the sun to rise. This home (and it does feel like you are a guest of family) has everything anyone could possibly need in the pristine green of the Vermont countryside. We were greeted with a welcoming note, a jar of homegrown maple syrup and a basket of info detailing the surrounding area. There is plenty of room for visiting and overnight guests, as well as the peaceful sense of being at one with nature. Lots of great windows overlooking this fabulous property, unobstructed views from the wrap around porch and decks. The decor is homey, yet edgy, and absolutely delightful, with those personal touches that add so much beauty. If I could only choose one place to stay, this would be it, and we hope to return again soon. The family owners are easy to deal with and thorough in their information, including travel directions. I highly and unequivocally recommend this clean rental, accurately reflected in the site's photos and description. (Note: Great bathrooms, too!) This is a terrific place for bike riding and hiking, with lots of local shopping within a short distance. And we can't wait to see the apple trees next time...Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: We're so glad you seem to have enjoyed our house as much as we do. We tried to make it as comfortable as possible (for our own use!) but had little to invest, so have mostly just used castoffs and lots of paint to furnish the house. It is a fun work in progress. Thanks for sharing your good time, and we hope you do come back in the fall!

About the owner: We live and work in the Philadelphia suburbs. We are a blended family of seven grown children, several of their spouses, and four grandchildren.
Why the Owner Chose Greensboro:
I fell in love with Caspian Lake and Greensboro as a child. After years of looking for as special a place closer to home, we rented houses for family vacations in Greensboro for seven years, and have always loved the area. We bought the house to eventually retire to. Meanwhile, we all love having our own special place in a very special part of Vermont.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love walking in the woods, swimming and kayaking in the lake, biking and hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. We love the peace and quiet of the Northeast Kingdom, the wonderful local foods available, the friendly down-to-earth people, the smell....
