The home is extremely spacious, comprised of two full baths, two half baths, eight bedrooms, accommodating 15 adults with twin, double and king-size beds. Also included is a washer and dryer, full kitchen, dining room, living room with fireplace, library, two playrooms and attached deck. Enjoy slow-moving fresh water, swimming with a dock and picnic area on the river. Vegetable garden, play area, horseshoes and short walking trails are on-site and you can easily walk the distance to a Rails to Trails connection. Close access to Machias and many coastal attractions, including the Salmon, Blueberry and Birding Festivals. Ideal for multi-family vacation, reunion or a group of friends. Also a picturesque location for a small wedding or retreat. Dogs welcome. No smoking. Contact person lives on-site.
Washington County: Downeast Washington County Maine is recognized as one of the country's finest bird watching areas. It is one of the few areas in the country where Puffins can be viewed. Visit East and West Quoddy Lighthouses, Lobster Festivals, Blueberry Festivals. Take a Kayak trip along the famous rocky coast of Maine or hike the Bold Coast Trail. Day trips to Bar Harbor and Arcadia National Park, Campabello Island (Canada), and whale watching are all possible from this location.
Machias Area: Machias is the perfect blend of modern comfort and country life. The surrounding area is rich with blueberry fields, hiking trails, rivers, lakes, and miles of Maine coast and harbors. The Machias area is the home of many talented artists, musicians and craftsmen. You can enjoy weekly Chamber Concerts, live theater, gift shops, galleries, and museums. You can enjoy dining in one of the local restaurants that range from a quick take out to fine dining with reservations only. Machias celebrates the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War with a festival in early June.
River House: The River House is a place to enjoy the awe of the forest, the river or the open sky. It is a place of nature and beauty with short trails that invite solitude and exploration. Relax as you swim in the delightful fresh water, fish from the dock or sit by a campfire enjoying the sun set over the river in the east. Pick fresh vegetables from the garden in July and August, play a game of horseshoes, or enjoy the spacious indoor playrooms on a rainy day. For the hiking or biking enthusiast, it is a short walk to a Rails to Trails connection (2009 addition to the Machias Area).
