Location: Pender Harbour, Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Coast & Mountains, British Columbia, Canada (2 Hours from Vancouver by B.C. Ferry and Road.)
Accommodations: Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)
The cabin is centered on a third of an acre of native trees and vegetation. The new 750 square foot deck has magnificent views looking up Whisky Slew and into Gerrons Bay with a range of mountains in the distance. There is a 3 person swing on the deck and it is also a perfect place to have a leisurely breakfast. The main floor has cedar walls, ceiling and beams.
The master bedroom has an ensuite toilet and the main bathroom has an old fashioned soaker tub. We have lots of bubble bath. There is a micro-wave/ convection oven, stove, oven, fridge, cutlery, baking pans, dishes, Brita water filter or large jugs refillable at the IGA. Salt, pepper, sugar, some spices and a few condiments in the fridge, washer and dryer are downstairs. WiFi is limited.
The newly dry walled and painted rec-room also has a sink and queen sized bed. A third bathroom (basement) is also in the works. Fully winterized the basement has a wood stove and the upstairs baseboard heating in each room. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs, 2 with queen beds and one with a double.
There are 2 ocean parks with in 2 kilometers, one has rocky shoreline and the other pebble beach with low tide sandy tide pools with access to a small Island, tide pools with eels, crabs and lots of eagles above. Twenty minutes drive away is Catherine Lake with fresh water swimming and sandy beaches in a provincial park. Biking and hiking are excellent.
There are magnificent views from the top of Daniel Peak, a 45 minute hike, best views in morning. North of Pender Harbour along Hwy 101 is the Iris Griffith Interpretive center. Beyond that is Egmont with a superbly maintained walking trail to the world famous Skookumchuck Narrows, where kayaks are often seen riding the standing wave formed by the tide change. The Coast boasts 2 golf courses, 35 minutes and 15 minutes away.
The closest marina is in Madeira Park 3 km away. It also has 2 groceries, butcher, liquor store, bank, pharmacy, DVD rental, coffee shops etc. The Grasshopper pub is 5 minutes away and the coast has many other restaurants. The most common way to access the coast is B.C. Ferries from Horseshoe Bay West Vancouver. They go approximately every 2 hours in each direction.
Exact schedule, reservations and how full they are at website. They also have extra sailings for long weekends. It is possible to reserve space but it is not necessary. The earlier in the day the less traffic. You can also go north to Powell River on the ferry and a third ferry will connect you with Vancouver Island.
Local artists open their galleries and studios. They are mostly along the main highway and are detailed in brochures found on the ferry. Look on website for information on Vancouver and for the Sunshine Coast. It has lots to see and do as well as restaurants, maps, festivals, etc.
