Come, vacation in our BEAUTIFUL beach cottage, "Corolla Otter" (pronounced in that southern drawl - Ka-Ra-La Otta)! It's the perfect cottage to kick back, relax, soak up the sun and sand and be as carefree as you can be! "Corolla Otter" - now that's an interesting name for a cottage by the sea. You'll find the story behind the name, "Corolla Otter," told in pictures in the Great Room.
EVERYONE WHO STAYS IN "COROLLA OTTER" SAYS THE SAME THING ABOUT OUR BEACH COTTAGE! IT'S COMFORTABLE! Our "cottage" is a beautiful, comfortable home by the sea with great ocean views (a little "sound" view, too), that is tastefully decorated. New siding and roof were added in the spring of 2008, along with the addition to the game/media room. Our grandson told us that the NAME of the color of our siding, Pacific Blue, was "just wrong." His thinking? He said it's "the wrong OCEAN"....BUT it fits our cottage to a tee!
All appliances are modern and up to date, including the "huge" stainless side-by-side refrigerator! We have a second refrigerator located in the foyer so you can stock up on groceries!
We're only about 300 feet to the beach access (about a 1-2 minute walk), making it an easy trip to and from the beach. So, if you need to run home for a cold drink, lunch, or an "emergency" it's extremely convenient. There's a walkway across the dune that makes beach access easy! We have a wonderful pool area, perfect for enjoying lazy days lounging around and taking a dip in the 16'x32' pool. We have two picnic tables in the pool area so a group of family and friends can gather for a picnic! In the evenings the hot tub will beckon you to enjoy what we love, gazing up at the stars while relaxing in the "tub." The driveway has a basketball goal for shooting hoops - so bring a ball, in case the one we left at the house has migraged north, south, west, or east- out to sea! We have off street parking with spaces for SEVEN vehicles.
The ground level has a foyer and a laundry room with washer and dryer. You will enter the game/media room from this foyer through an arched doorway! In the game/media room, we have a large flat screen tv and two huge sofas for watching tv, plus a foosball table that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike for that big foosball tournament. We also have a dart board, so bring your own darts if you are a dart enthusiast like our daughter!
Our mid level has a queen master bedroom and two additional queen bedrooms (all queens have ocean-side deck access), two rooms with twins and two rooms with bunk sets (one bunk room is set up kid friendly with a "city streets" floor rug and "matchbox" cars and trucks), plus the additional two full baths, a den area with queen sleep sofa that also has ocean-side deck access. On quieter afternoons, we enjoy sitting and reading in the hammock swing on the mid-level deck AND listening to the sound of the ocean, the gulls calling, and feeling those wonderful sea breezes!
The entire top level is the heart of the home, with a spacious, bright and cheerful Great Room with three sofas and lots of chairs for relaxing and watching (and listening to) the ocean. We love to sink into a sofa with a good book, look out into the starry night sky, and relax after a day of "beaching" or sight-seeing! There is no other way to put it ... the great room is just COMFORTABLE!
We have a well-equipped kitchen with LOTS of dishes and pots and pans, including 2 crab pot steamers, a refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, electric range, microwave, which, all combined, makes preparing meals easy. You always feel a part of what's HAPPENING while cookin' in the kitchen. A long bar counter w/stools separates the kitchen area from the dining area which has two table and chair sets. Plenty of storage for your groceries in the "pantry" cabinet, too.
Seating for meals is plentiful. There is nothing more pleasurable than enjoying your breakfast, lunch, or dinner with an awe-inspiring ocean view! A small "nook" located just off the great room is home to a child's table and chair set where they can color, play games, or even eat!
On this level, too, is a half bath. You will find games and puzzles in the game closet. We've stocked children and adult books in a beautiful oak bookcase for you, as well as providing a Playstation2 w/games. There are also a number of movies in the tv stand drawers for your enjoyment. There is another wonderful deck off the Great Room for sunbathing and watching the ocean waves. Plenty of DECK FURNITURE!

Since the last comment, we'd like to add that the municipal water system has worked out great! Additionally, we addedd a game-media room on the ground floor level, replaced the roof and added beautiful new siding. Since the movie rental store closed we can no longer offer free movie rentals, however, there are many DVDs and some VHS movies for you to watch on the many tvs located in the house. This is a truly comfortable home, one you can settle into and just relax. On a recent trip (April 2010), we drove the two miles north to the 4-wheel drive area. After traversing the "back country" looking for the wild Spanish Mustangs, we found the "herd" of horses seen in the picture, coming across the dune and frolicking in the water and on the beach. Do plan to drive up to the 4-wheel drive area, drive out onto the beach (yes, Route 12 is the beach up there and goes all the way to the Virginia border) and spend about two hours touring a totally different area of the Northern Outer Banks. Keep watch for those horses! We've seen them in the back country and one or two on the beach before, but as the caption under the picture says, "A rare find!" when you see this many horses all at once....even rolling on their backs in the sand. We were entralled and watched them for 30-40 minutes! You'll never forget an experience like that!

To our guests: We purchased our beach cottage in March of 2003 and our guests vacationed in "Cheers to You" during the summer months! A chance encounter with an otter in January 2003 in Corolla (we were signing the contract on the house) led us to change the name of our cottage to "Corolla Otter." We are located in the northern Outer Banks in Corolla, in the "Whalehead" Subdivision. We are pleased with the changes we have made and continue to make in "Corolla Otter." New appliances for 2004 and a great improvement in the water system are in place for our guests. We're very convenient to shopping at the Food Lion, and this year we are offering free movie & game rentals. We look forward to having you as our guests during the upcoming vaction season on the Outer Banks! Lillian & Keith
