Location: Tunk Lake, Acadia, Maine, USA (One Hour to International Airport; 25 Minutes to Ellsworth) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 8)
If you are looking for the quiet side of Maine in an accessible wilderness setting, we offer a private, attractive, comfortable, and well furnished home which can be used as a jumping-off point for exploring Acadia Park and the east coastal region.
The cottage is a bright and spacious timber-frame cape-style home with extensive water views through open birches. It is located one mile off state highway 182 on a 13-acre peninsula with 1200 feet of frontage on Tunk Lake. A gravel beach, dock, and swim float are 100 feet from the front door. Tunk Lake is recognized in Maine's Wilderness Lake Survey for its exceptional water quality and clarity, fisheries, and scenic shoreline. Beaches and trails around the lake are managed by the Maine Department of Conservation. Wildlife is plentiful, including loons, ducks, osprey, deer, beaver, and an occasional moose and eagle. The site is 1/4 mile to the nearest other cottage, and when you stand on the shore and look around the lake, you will see only one other camp! A serene setting for reading, sunbathing, morning swims, afternoon naps, blueberry picking, and viewing the Big Dipper in a night sky free of urban lighting!

Why the Owner Chose Tunk Lake
Tunk Lake is in a pristine wilderness setting with many surrounding ponds and mountains under state ownership or held in conservation easements. Excellent hiking opportunities, abundant wildlife, and good fishing for lake trout keep us coming back for more.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Although the bustling Acadia Park region is not far away, this very private "off the grid" wilderness setting allows us to "rough it" in a comfortable well-furnished home.
Owner's Map of Tunk Lake
My husband and I live and work in the Portland, Maine area. I own a small biotech company and my husband Dwight works for a regional bank. We grew up in the Acadia/Downeast section of Maine, and built this summer home in 1990.
