Domino Magazine featured this completely transformed lake cottage in its October 2008 Renovator's Notebook. Stylishly furnished and tastefully designed, this sweet and functional dwelling is nestled into a lovely cove of Copake Lake in Columbia County NY, just two hours north of New York City. Copake Lake is a spring fed, all-purpose water attraction, both in summer and winter.
Short drives to plentiful points of interest: Bash Bish State Park, Harlem Valley Rail Trail, Hudson NY Antiques, Hancock Shaker Village, Norman Rockwell Museum, Great Barrington Mass., Tanglewood, and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, to name a few. Fine Dining includes The Greens at Copake Country Club (On Copake Lake), The Swiss Hutte in Hillsdale NY, and The Old Mill in Egremont, Mass.
Winter activities include some of the most pristine ice skating in the Northeast, cross country skiing, alpine skiing and snowboarding at Catamount Ski Area (12 minutes) and Butternut Ski Area (30 minutes), snowmobiling, and innertubing/sledding on the scenic 18 hole Copake Country Club Golf Course, which is situated right on Copake Lake. An outdoor fire pit provides year round pleasure.

This is such a great place!! The house was awesome!! We skated on the lake, went sledding, and then skied at catamount the next day which was 10 minutes away! The house was stocked with everything we could have needed and we walked into the house with a fire ready to go with the strike of a match and plenty of fire wood to keep it going! I almost don't want to leave a good review in fear that someone else might be staying here next time we try to book :) . What a wonderful getaway. Can't say enough about our great weekend and super accommodations. Extra special thanks to Denise for meeting us there and giving us the lay of the land. The owner was gracious and responsive. came right over if we needed anything. We enjoyed the lake and the boats that came with the property. The screened in porch was great for dinners, but none of the furniture on it was very comfortable. It would have been nice to take a nap out there. We had a good time at the Country Club playing golf and Marina for a couple meals. We wished that the water access was more private and quiet. The photos did not exactly reflect the rental's appearance, some furniture had been switched out, there were many more collectables around and animal heads ( not my favorite) and the some of the outside photos were taken in the winter when the lake is probably really quiet.Recommended for: Pet owners.

My family and I had an amazing time at Copake Lake while staying at this home. We enjoyed everything the home had to offer – the décor, the BBQ, motorboat, kayak, canoe, fire pit for roasting smores and of course the beautiful lake which is right in front of house. We also took advantage of the private porch on the lake by eating practically every meal there. Such a great way to enjoy the view of the lake while spending time with family. The lake is clear and was warm while we were there which allowed us to go swimming quite a bit. We even took some waterski and wakeboarding lessons from the local instructors right across the lake. We had such a good stay that we plan to come again in the winter to ski at Catamount and Butternut nearby. If you’re looking for a fun and relaxing vacation, I would highly recommend renting this home.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.

This property has it all! The home is very clean, comfortable and well stocked with unique decor in every room. We enjoyed sitting in the screened in porch overlooking the beautiful lake. There is a private dock with a speed boat that we had a blast in touring the lake. While winding down we cooked on the grill and relaxed by the firepit. The owners were very helpful in answering our questions. I highly recommend this for a perfect getaway.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at this home. Waking up to the fabulous view of the lake and having our morning coffee on the screened in porch was the best ever. The house was very clean, comfortable and uniquely decorated. The lake is crystal clear. We brought our own small boat and had so much fun on the lake. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are planning to come again in August.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.

Hands down, the best summer house in Columbia County! Sounds like I’m fibbin’, I know, but it’s spot-on true. Here’s why, the house is lakefront, it’s completely refurbished move-right–in comfortable, has central air, awesome kitchen, screened porch overlooking the water, private dock, and a sweet speed boat to haul you and yours around the beautiful, clean, perfectly swimmable Copake Lake. I’ve rented this house for the past three years with my hubby, extended family and old college roomies friends. All were equally delighted with their time on the lake. Plus, the Bass fishing is excellent! We recently stayed at this very cute cabin with our two young children and were charmed by the decor and by the owner's hospitality. The living room and kitchen were spacious enough (as were the bedrooms) for everyone to spread out some. The location is equidistant from Hudson and Great Harrington which we enjoyed. I can imagine that it's great once the lake can be used since it's situated right on Lake Copake with a gorgeous view. A very nice screen in porch also. We had a good time in the dead of winter which says a lot! :)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children.

Several years ago, I and three partners formed a company called ABCD homes, and started buying ill-used properties and restoring them to their appropriate charm and style. We are architects, builders, and designers, and care a great deal about preserving the history and health of the lake and its surroundings so that others may experience what we ourselves have been able to.
