The Cabana on Historic Rose Island - 'a playhouse for all seasons' at Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, Canada.
The Cabana is a self-contained one room unit, ideal for two persons built with the environment in mind, in 2007. It is private, on the opposite side of the island from the main cottage, first constructed in the l920s. The Cabana has its own dock and is fenced off from the main cottage. It is a tread softly, walk slowly, small piece of the rough terrain that makes up the whole island. The paths from dock to firepit, cabana, eco-toilet are safe/slightly uneven gravel. There is no running water. One swims in the lake and hauls water to wash - a la deluxe camping or "glamping" - glamorous camping. Drinking water is brought in.
The work stations are set up for cooking, personal hygiene, dishes etc. The Cabana has a covered porch set up with two deck chairs and an inbetween table. There is an outside light to facilitate night visits to the loo eco-toilet) or just guide you to your destination.
The little porch opens onto the one room via double French doors. The room is compact. A Queen size bed for sleeping/lounging, antique eating table/desk, two collapsible chairs, good lighting for reading/preparing. Basic utensils, kettle, toaster, hot plate, dishes, cups, cutler. The outside area has a BBQ/cooking station on a small raised patio, there is an electric outlet here. Small firepit with two chairs beside/below it. Storage for gear under the deck.
The view is beautiful onto the lake, distant hills and other cottages.
What can one do at the Cabana, Shawnigan Lake. Swim, canoe, row, go fishing, wind surf, eat view, bird watch (bald eagles), sleep, read, write, paint, take photographs.....Bring your electronic gadgets and enjoy them on the porch with the lake at your side. Good restaurants, cafes, galleries in the area. Bike trails, hiking and rentals of various kinds of equipment, just down the lake. For each one of you who travels and plays in your own way, there is something here!
We pick up and drop off guests from the main road to the Cabana via our l7 foot working boat, a double eagle. We provide a canoe and a rowboat for the use of guests.
The Cabana on Rose Island is a totally charming place, anyone who visits just loves it. See you here soon.
