The King House at Puako is airy and roomy, containing approximately 4,000 sq. ft. There is a 35-foot ceiling in the core of the house, with Polynesian ventilation, which creates a natural flow of tropical air throughout the house. The house has pocket sliding glass doors that, under normal circumstances, make the core of the house a large, screened, open air pavilion. There are ceiling fans throughout the house.
The core area of the house consists of the living room, dining room, kitchen and lanai, with an exposed stairway leading from the center of this open space to the upstairs areas. The floors in the core area are hardwood, which lends a warm visual ambiance to the calming sounds of the ocean a short 30 feet away.
There are four graciously appointed and fully carpeted master bedrooms (2 up and 2 down), all of which have a king size bed, a private adjoining bath, excellent cross ventilation, and private deck or balcony seating. There is a balcony overlooking the 2-story living room, which provides additional sleeping space. The four outdoor shower areas are uniquely designed to take advantage of the tropical climate. The Jacuzzi is in an indoor/outdoor enclosure on the first level of the house.
A well-equipped kitchen boasts modern appliances, including dual refrigerators, sinks and dishwashers. It is a very functional space—even with several people working in the area. Meals taken on the ocean-side lanai become a special Hawaiian memory of palm trees, colorful sunsets, and cool ocean breezes.
There are open-air decks with lanais on both the ocean and street sides of the house, as well as on a third side. In addition to a very small beach area immediately adjacent to the house, the ocean side has a compact lawn area that is well shielded from neighboring properties by trees, shrubs and fences. The house itself is only 30 feet from the water’s edge, and the sound and sight of the waves are an integral part of the ambiance of the house.
