We stayed at Rumrunner years ago when we first came to antigua and it had everything we needed so we have come back every year since but were unable till this year to stay there again. It is far better than other place we have stayed and love what is available. It is well taken care of and updated. Only praise for everyone we met.

This is a condo style arrangement with one end of the unit overlooking a harbour and the other opening to the road. We rented a golf cart (it's basically a large gated community) and it was easy to get around this way. The North Beach is not to be missed and could be walked to from this unit. The Castaway restaurant on the south end is great and the beach is nice (you can rent chairs and umbrellas, and chairs are free if you give them your unit #).

Delighted with weeks' stay. After a 9 day inter-island sail the comfort-and ac-was much appreciated.Jolly Harbour is an excellent base to explore the island and coming back to Rumrunner was bliss -in fact you could even say we over relaxed and chilled on the veranda watching the yachts sail by.Would recommend without hesitation

My family and I had a really lovely time in antigua staying at the Rum Runner in Jolly Harbour. We were met by the lovely Margot and Lilly who welcomed us immediately and made us feel straight at home. The villa was very clean and well equipped and contained everything we would need. There was lots to see and do and we went on a few excursions which were great fun. Ian and Joanne were really lovely and welcomed us onto their boat for a trip around antigua. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful from the moment of our first enquiry. The villa management were first class and arranged our transfer from the airport and the hiring of the golf buggy (definitely recommended). They met us on arrival at the villa and showed us around. Villa is in a perfect location and had a very relaxing atmosphere. We would recommend it to anyone as an excellent base

Two wonderful weeks have flown by. Rumrunner was perfect for our family of 6. Location is secure and convenient. We tried to visit as many beaches in as many days and have a few favourites. South Beach, for convenience and good lunch at Castaways and pretty good snorkelling at the far right of the beach. Hermitage Bay, next bay up.Very bumpy pot hole filled drive, but worth it for crystal clear waters , and peace and quiet. Long Beach. Fairly busy, but possibly the best snorkelling along the visible reef. Stingray City.Worthwhile experience and Long Beach is close for afterwards. Pigeon Beach then Shirley Heights on a Sunday for the steel drums, BBQ and Reggae party in the evening Turner Beach. Beach bar, umbrellas. Service ok, not as good as Castaways.Snorkelling far left facing sea. Tip.. Book ahead for Al Porto 2-4-1 pizza

The RumRunner Villa in Jolly Harbour was a excellent choice by me and my wife. Everything about the villa and location was a perfect fit. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the villa and coziness! I truly felt like I was at my home. We enjoyed having the golf cart for our short trips to the beach, grocery store and beach bars. If you are looking for an all inclusive accommodations, this may not be the spot for you. If you want to feel like your at home relaxing on a island in your own private villa, then the RumRunner Villa is it! Although it was the slow season (June 2011), we still managed to enjoy the local shops, restaurants and beaches. The check-in / check-out process was flawless. The leasing managers were waiting at the villa when we arrived to show us around to give us details about the property and area. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and kept us informed of all the local amenities/events. We also enjoyed and visited many of the locals such as Castaways (good rum punch), Al Porto's (tasty Italian and Pizza), Dennis's (great jerk & curry island food), OJ's (good seafood), Turners (nice beach ), Gibson (laid back beach bar) and Shirley Heights (spectacular views). We also took advantage of the Jolly Harbour Sports Bar. A nice place for a quick snack, swim and cocktail before heading into town or beach. Papa Zouks (Creole seafood at its best!). We managed to head over to the island of Barbuda for lobster lunch at Uncle Roddy's. It's a island experience you won't forget! We had the entire beach to ourselves. One of the last undeveloped islands nearby. My wife and I lucked up to enjoy the parties that were happening around the island during our stay. The UK London crew know how to put on a great old school party!! Thanks for the great memories. Overall my wife and I enjoyed the Villa RumRunner Villa immensely and will absolutely be returning

Having lived in Antigua it was great to be back. The villa was the perfect base for us while we were here, and was fully furnished with everything we needed for a great stay.We had our friends to visit and they were impressed with what it contained. The Villa Management team were really helpful, and the security of the area made our stay very peaceful. We did all the normal tourist sites although Shirley Heights was rained out. The beaches are as good as ever and I think a special mention should be made of The Nest Bar and Restaurant which has a good menu and an excellent beach with plenty of shade, less than 5 minutes from here. Thank you to the Heaths for renting the property

We enjoyed our stay at Rumrunner April 15 – 23, 2011. It is a safe place with good security for a family or, in our case, for two women traveling alone. The view is very nice – probably one of the nicer views of any of the villas situated on any of the fingers. The villa has tiled floors throughout. There are 2 full bathrooms upstairs – ensuite to each of the upstairs bedrooms – and a washing machine in a closet at the top of the stairs. The master bedroom has access to a tiled deck through sliding glass doors. Downstairs is a bunk bedroom off the kitchen with a half bath next to it. The kitchen counters are tiled and there is lots of room to prepare meals. There is a full sized refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, a toaster, a teapot, a coffee maker, and a blender. We found plenty of pots and pans, baking dishes, tableware, glassware, and utensils. There is a table and chairs in the dining area and comfortable seating and a TV in the living room. The tiled veranda has a BBQ and table and chairs and a couple of chaise lounges. There is also an outside shower on the veranda. The resort area has a grocery store and some specialty stores closer to the entrance. These stores are probably a half hour walk from the villa. There is a pharmacy that sells stamps and a post box to mail your cards and letters. There was an internet shop, but Rumrunner has a telephone for local calls and wireless internet is available in the villa. There are restaurants in this area, another a little closer to the villa, and another on South Beach. South Beach is full service, but is about a 45 minute walk. We preferred the quieter North Beach which is only about a 10 walk from Rumrunner. Rumrunner has a telephone for local calls, and wireless internet is available in the villa. Joanne is very friendly and hospitable. We visited with her while we were on Montserrat, where she has another home that she also rents. The Montserrat house has a pool and sweeping ocean views. I would definitely recommend Rumrunner to family & friends. ?
Owner response:Always so pleased to hear that guests have enjoyed their visit to Antigua . We welcome future guests to visit us in Montserrat and discover another special island.

Had a great 2 weeks (except for the roads and taxi drivers ) All the resaurants in Jolly Harbour served very delicious food-slowly.The beaches and pool were fantastic. Don't miss Shirley Heights on Sunday night. Rumrunner was great. Neat and clean. Had a few problems with our rental golf cart which were taken care of promptly. Would not hesitate to rent again. Hi Joanne, We had a wonderful time during our stay. Antigua is an amazing island, we loved all the colorful plants as everything is quite gray in part of the world this time of year. It was our first time snorkeling on this trip and we loved it and cant wait to try it again. We loved having the rental car to explore beaches all over the island and were pleasantly surprised to find we had many of them all to ourselves. The weather was great, the only time it rained was while we slept and it was only overcast for a couple hours one morning, other than that there was lots of much needed sunshine. Thanks Again,

Antigua is your typical Caribbean island with something for everyone’s taste. I particularly liked Jolly Harbour as everything one would need was close by. A golf cart is an absolute must, and an absolute delight to drive…well, maybe not in a downpour as I arrived just in time to catch the remnants of Hurricane Tomas which hit Barbados and St. Lucia, but not Antigua. The Rumrunner is exactly as advertised, and comfortable. It was hot and humid so having the AC available at night time was a blessing. What was special for me was North Beach, about a two minute drive further on the road past the Rumrunner by golf buggy. I was there everyday and the ocean was pristine, the sand bottom a delight and it was very shallow too, so I could do my aquacize every day. Why drive around to the pool or the South Beach when I was the only one there! Despite earlier online comments, no sign of any mosquitoes this trip (the first two weeks of November), though one should be prepared, especially for no seeums that could come out at dusk. The Epicurean food store in Jolly Harbour is more than adequate, as was their wine and liquor selection (and the local beer excellent too.) I decided not to rent a car to see the island as I felt more comfortable hiring the driver that Joanne retained to pick me up and deliver me to the airport. For $80 US, this was one smart decision, as my driver was knowledgeable, I got to see the island, its people, and the best spots on the island, without any anxiety, and he had to avoid the potholes! The road signage on the island is poor, the traffic busy, the driving, shall we say, unpredictable, and the infrastructure shows that the economic downturn hit the island hard, so this is the way to see the island. I had lunch at Caribbean Taste, a local spot in English Harbour, and it was fine. The best find for me was the local golf course in JH. I can only manage nine holes because of my disability and in the humidity it is energy sapping. While the course is in rough shape after the hurricane season, I played twice and for $50 US a round, including green fees, rental clubs and trolley, I had a great time, playing two balls, and I was the only person on the course! It was a great time to practice and I never lost!

"Sunshine and Beaches" We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Rumrunner. We went to antigua for the sun and the beaches and we weren't disappointed even though we were at the tail end of hurricane Igor. It was a little windy, but the super close beaches were still brilliant white, the water a beautiful turquoise and bathwater warm. The sunshine and constant 28 degree heat was completely relaxing. The villa itself is very well-maintained, comfortable, and felt very Caribbean. My wife and I love to cook, and the kitchen was well-stocked with a variety of tools, utensils, and modern appliances. The location is pretty great, too, since there is a small community with well-stocked supermarket located a 5-minute golf cart ride away. I really would recommend a golf cart within Jolly Harbour: although you can walk, sometimes the heat and humidity in the middle of the day makes walking around more work than we really wanted. :-) All in all, our stay at Villa Rumrunner was everything we wanted. Nothing felt forced or like more work than it needed to be. Friendly people, quiet and safe area, beaches and sunshine. What more can you ask for?

Rumrunner was excellent, it is very well maintained, and has all the things you need for an enjoyable holiday. The patio set and the deck is very comfortable, the barbecue is ideal, the kitchen is just the right size with everything you need to cook. The villa has wireless internet access, which is ideal for teenagers and to keep in touch with work if needed. The two upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms are nicely decorated and very comfortable. The 3rd bedroom downstairs is quite small with bunkbeds so its really only suitable for children. The property was very clean and the housekeeper cleaned once during our stay. The location is in a nice, safe, quiet area of Jolly Harbour. We had Hurricane Earl during our stay, and the property was very safe. There was a bit of flooding in the local area , but it didn't reach the villa fortunately. The owner Joanne Heath was very helpful and I would certainly recommend this villa to anyone wanting a villa at Jolly Harbour.

"Comfortable, clean and awesome location!" Rumrunner exceeded our expectations. The unit was nicely decorated and had all the needed ammenities. Two bedrooms upstairs were great. The third bedroom downstairs could only be used for little children as it is bunk beds in a small room. We did not use it so it was no big deal for us. Great location and Joanne the onsite property manager was great. The whole experience from booking to staying there was simple and no hassle. Do rent a golf cart as it is necessary to get around Jolly Harbour to get to restaurants and to the beach. Go to al Porto italian restaurant. Tuesday is 2-4-1 pizzas and Thursday is all you can eat pasta night. Also, call the free shuttle and spend the day at Sugar Ridge. A nice break from the beach. Overall loved antigua and would go back. Thanks Joanne and Ian for sharing Rumrunner with us!

We absolutely loved Jolly Harbour and Antigua. Your villa was everything we needed...plus some. It was in a great location and we had North Beach almost to ourselves. We never would be able to do that in the states. We went to St John's one morning and were surprised at the conditions of the capital. Our boat tour around the island was great! Roger and I both enjoyed that so much and met a lot of great folks. Mostly we enjoyed doing nothing, but relaxing on the beach and taking a break from the hustle of everyday life. Thanks again for allowing us to stay in your villa. We may be in touch again for another visit.

Thanks for your note. We had a fabulous time! Met a lot of interesting people - both local and visiting. We enjoyed the happy coincidence that sailing week was on during our stay as we went to a couple of the parties around the island. We took the bus into St. John's and to Morris Bay, rented a car and went around the island and stopping at beaches along the way, catamaran trip around the island, and went ziplining... We went to a silent auction at the Dogwatch to raise money for a local family who sadly lost their home and two children to fire. We bid on (and won) an amazing boat ride for the 5 of us. Paul, the captain of the boat, shuttled us off to and back to Falmouth on the Friday of Mount Gay party. All got Mount Gay sailing race caps. :) Joanne was a big help, and Tim and Hannah were marvelous neighbours, providing information, lending us one of their cell phones when we went off on our own, and even lending me a pair of runners for ziplining (didn't think of taking any). Antigua was absolutely beautiful with breathtaking scenery. We really enjoyed Rumrunner as our home - we ate all of our breakfasts and most of our dinners at home as we used the BBQ and found the meat to be delicious. We also picked up veggies at the market in St. John's as well as the Saturday veggie/fruit man that Tim and Hannah invited us to visit with them. We tried the first couple of nights without the air conditioner, but there were no winds and we didn't get much sleep. We did run the bedrooms only at night when we went to sleep. We found the rooms cooled off quickly. Everyone told us that it was not typical weather for this time of year. I used 30 SPF the entire time and sat in the shade at the beach - a first for me! :) Jean was waiting for us at the airport - and he took us back as well. The golf cart was also waiting, and became one of the highlights for some memories! Thanks so much.... Sharon

Antigua was brilliant, Rumrunner just right for our stay and Jolly Harbour an ideal base. We hired a car and saw most of the island. Half Moon Bay, St John's, English Harbour and Shirley Heights being highlights. Driving around the island took a few days to get used to. We often got lost but the local people were so friendly and one kind person drove in front of us all the way to Devil's Bridge! A sight worth seeing. Jolly Harbour had much to offer - we found the Epicurean supermarket most useful and the prices reasonable, enjoyed a game of pool at The Dogwatch, ate out at Al Porto and visited the swimming pool most afternoons. Having the water sports at Jolly Beach pleased the children and the turquoise Caribbean sea all of us. Rumrunner suited us totally - a great base, the ability to cook for ourselves with a supermarket on site saved us money - separate rooms for the children always a bonus! Shame that we have to go back to work. Thanks for your instructions - very easy to follow. Sally

Rumrunner is a very clean and well maintained villa equipped to a high standard, located in a quiet, residential part of the resort with friendly neighbours on both sides. On clear days we could see the volcano on Montserrat from the villa balcony, smoking away in the distance (30 miles), and providing very interesting cloud formations - especially at sunset! Antigua is a great holiday destination, for sea, sun and sand, but like anywhere tropical beware of the mosquitoes and sand flies! A car or buggy is recommended. We very much enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning soon. S, D and K, UK Dec 2009 / Jan 2010

It was very peacfull and enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the morning and evening enjoying the view. The beach at Jolly Harbour was gorgeous, our girls also enjoyed collecting shells at the smaller beach at NorthFinger. We would recommend getting a car to go around the Island and a good map as alot of roads are not sign posted, but the local people are very friendly and helpfull. There were some breath taking views and beautifull beaches and for the more adventureous the rainforest zip line. We would certainly recommend Rumrunner to our friends and family. 5 After Thanksgiving Holiday at Rumrunner Grace and Tom Elmwood Park, NJ USA Review Submitted: December 15, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2009 My husband and I just returned from a 2 week holiday in Antigua. We stayed at the Rumrunner villa and had one of the best vacations in the Caribbean. We usually do the all inclusive thing for one week, as both of us feel that 1 week of eating and drinking and doing nothing is enough. Since we decided to go away after Thanksgiving (that time of the year when Americans start to eat decadently), we opted for something self-catering. We're so glad we picked Rumrunner and that we stayed for 2 weeks. The place was very clean, comfortable, great location, and all fixtures done in good taste. I could not have asked for a better place. The beaches were awesome. A couple of friends joined us on the 2nd week and both were very impressed. We had drinks by the deck, watched the fish jump, and marvel at just how beautiful each day was. The new restaurant Al Porto served very good Italian fare, Alex the English bartender certainly took care of us when we went there. . Our Canadian neighbors Tim & Hannah were extremely nice & helpful, just true salt of the earth! Couldn't wait to go back next year!
