This is a spacious (1300 square feet) ground level, three bedroom, two bathroom, ocean view condominium, in the very popular, upscale Makahuena Resort located in the center of Poipu. It's size and internal layout (all on one level)provides spacious comfort for as many as 8 but works perfectly well and is priced for smaller groups. You may want to invite your family or friends to join you (and share the cost) as they will be comfortable too. Check our monthly rates (as low as $3,600) as we encourage longer stays. The resort complex sits on a cliff overlooking the ocean providing an unforgetable view and experience. You can view both sunrise and sunset from the site "Point" a few steps from our lanai where the sound of the ocean and it's spray is breathtaking.
The Makahuena is in the center of the Poipu golf world including being walking distance from Poipu Bay, former site of the Grand Slam of golf. The Makahuena contains it's own tennis facility (a rare commodity in Poipu condo complexes) bringing that sport steps from our unit. A basketball hoop has been recently installed, making that sport available also.
Top rated sandy beaches that provide sunbathing and surfing are less than a ten minute walk to the east (Shipwreck Beach) and to the west (Poipu Beach). Poipu Beach has a breakwater that provides protected beaches for toddlers and calm waters for snorklers.
The floor plan is all contained on one level eliminating the need to climb stairs to bedrooms or second bathrooms. Our seniors especially appreciate this convenience but everybody loves it. Additionally, the ground level location allows step free access to the impeccably maintained grounds, pool, spa, barbecue, view point, and other entertainment areas. There is also a basketball court in the tennis area which is very popular with our young travelers.
The master suite is a large bedroom containing a new Simmons Beautyrest California king bed. It has it's own bathroom which contains two large counters (his and hers) instead of the usual one. This bedroom opens directly to the lanai providing it's own ocean view and instant access to the grounds and all it's features.
The second large bedroom also has a California king bed and both of these bedrooms have their own televisions. The third bedroom is smaller, but large enough to contain two brand new plush full-size beds. If this bedroom is not needed it makes an excellent location to store luggage and golf clubs. The unit also includes 2 tri-fold twin size matresses to handle overflow sleeping needs.
A summary of the sleeping arrangements in the bedrooms is as follows:
1. Primary Master Suite - California King Bed and full bathroom with his and her's counters.
2. Master Suite 2 - California King Bed with a full bathroom in adjacent room.
3. Bedroom 3 - Two New Double Beds and location (in closet) of 2 fold out matresses for
overflow.
The unit has been recently redecorated including new furniture and beautiful tile and paint. All three bedrooms have been recently recarpeted and new drapes were installed at that time. A new large refrigerator contains an icemaker, a rarity in rental condos.
The unit has a HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION making web contact especially convenient. A high definition television was installed in December 2007 and the unit is now "ipod friendly" with a docking station containing Bose speakers.
Poipu Beach is Kauai's most desirable area and was just rated the #1 beach in all of America. You will love your stay at the Makahuena and in particular in this condominium. The unit is easily large enough for two couples to share with adequate privacy. There are three televisions and two DVDs to keep the kids entertained in a separate room remote from adult conversation.

Why the Owner Chose Makahuena
We have traveled all over the Hawaiian islands and nothing compares with Poipu beach. Although Poipu is remote and quiet compared to the much more populated Mauai and Oahu, it still has every thing needed for a memorable vacation in Hawaii.

After exploring all the Hawaiian islands for many years we decided there are none that compare to the Poipu area of Kauai. The beaches, golf courses, restaurants, trails and just peace and quiet if you want it, are the best.

My wife and I purchased our condo a few years after Hurricane Iniki and have taken great pride in restoring this treasure to a level that allows ourselves and all who use it, to enjoy there stay in Kauai to the fullest. Everything has been replaced or restored. The beds and furniture are new and extremely confortable and the floors have been tiled or recarpeted. The walls were repainted in June 2010 and a large mirror installed over the couch at the same time appears to bring the ocean into that room. It's amazing!
We would love to have you stay in our place. Our referrals speak volumes.

Jim, Thank you so much for making your wonderful condo available to rent. Kauai and your condo exceeded our expectations. The condo was very spacious, comfortable and relaxing, we did not want to leave. The view from the condo grounds was amazing. My sister rented a 2 bdr.2 bath condo closer to Poipu beach without a Pool or Hottub and paid over $100 more a night then we did. The one thing that they had that we didn't, the Roosters waking them up at 5 am every morning. We are already planning our return trip. Mahola, Janna

Had a lovely week long stay at the condo in November. The accommodation has everything you need and then some. It was clean, large and nicely decorated. The complex is well-maintained and the staff there are very friendly and helpful. Great pool, jacuzzi and view of the ocean. Easy access to Shipwreck Peach and a few minutes drive into Poipu.

This condo made our time in Kauai perfect! It was in a great location near beaches & great restaurants. We felt centrally located to do daytrips to the North shore & to Waimea Canyon. The property was as described. With 7 of us staying there, we were all comfortable with plenty of living space. It was stocked with everything we needed to cook any or all of our meals there. It was very kid friendly (down to plastic drinking tumblers for the kids & swim noodles for the pool!) With 3 boys aged 6 & under, it made life easy! They loved having the pool right outside the lanai & yet we were close to Poipu beach (walking or quick drive, easy parking) for swimming and awesome snorkeling & boogie/body boarding (plus shaved ice at Brennecke's!) The condo has 3 TV's which was nice for winding down in the evening...kids could watch 1, grandma & grandpa on another, etc. We walked down to the "point" (just steps from the condo) everyday to see the sea turtles come up & eat off the rocks. The owner provided answers to any questions we had leading up to the vacation & the property managment was great on-site. My family was thrilled & we can honestly say this wouldn't have been such a perfect vacation if it wasn't for this amazing condo & it's location, amenities, etc! We look forward to doing again soon & would use this property again. Thank you!!

Our trip to Kauai was the best vacation we've ever been on. The condo worked out great for our group and the pool, jacuzzi and grounds were very well kept and clean. We enjoyed the view at both sunrise and sunset, and loved listening to the waves crash against the rocky cliffs. The location was great and we could walk to Shipwreck Beach in one direction and the Poipu Beaches in the other direction. The helicopter ride was breathtaking, and we also snorkeled, hiked the Nai Pali coast, went paddle boarding and kayaking and attended a luau. We definitely plan on coming back in the near future!

We enjoyed a wonderful 4 week stay at this condominium in July. Not having seen it personally, you always wonder just what you have gotten yourself into. I must say, we were very pleased at walking thru the door, checking out the accomodations and then taking in the view from the master bedroom, livingroom area and the lanai...looking to the left, looking to the right, the beautiful, colorful and impressive Pacific Ocean. I must say, the pictures on this site do not do the condo justice. It was great having the full size washer and dryer and had we been able to, would have taken the master king size bed home with us...it was so comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked as well as the bathroom, even with hair dryers and curling irons. Having the 3 TVs was great as our tastes varied on programming(had 10 year olds with us). I loved being able to listen to Hawaiian music on the living room TV. The waves crashing against the cliffs was awesome..the sea spray and the loud pounding surf, which by the way was not too noisy at the condo, but just heard enough to lull you to sleep. The pool was great, well kept, met some very nice people there. The staff was always friendly and accomodating. Although not on a beach, some famous and great ones were only a few minutes away. We enjoyed Kaloa Days, an annual July celebration and took in some of the activities, a great parade, super entertainment, and a dunes walk. We loved a boat/snorkeling ride around the NaPali coast, did horseback riding, and 2 Kipu Ranch ATV adventures, a zip line...all in the area of the condo. We enjoyed our usual eateries, Keoke's Paradise and Brenneke's and found some others, Scotty's Beachside BBQ in Kapaa and the Brick Oven Pizza in Kaleheo...some fun places, Dude Dogs, Bubba's, the Shrimp Shack, and Puka Dogs. Our host was very helpful in answering questions about the condo and the area. We would definately do a return visit to this condo!

Our trip to Kauai was wonderful! We had 9 people (3 kids), and the condo was great! We all fit in and were able to sleep comfortably. The condo and the facilities at the Makahuena were just what we needed. It was very beautiful (waves crashing against the rocks), the kids loved the pool, and we enjoyed the relative convenience of the location too (beach right down the hill, short drives to most conveniences). The kitchen and washing machine/dryer made a big difference - we packed less and ate out less than if we had stayed in a hotel. But we really felt the experience was better in the condo. The owner was also very helpful including some tips on the best places to see and eat. Outside of the condo, we went deep sea fishing, snorkeling and hiking on the Napali coast, golfing at Kiahuna, and a nice sunset dinner at the Beach House. So with all that, we definitely had a great trip, and we would certainly rent from you again if we can find our way back to Kauai.

Perfect place for us. We stayed 9 nights (Dec '09) Very spacious. Ground level was nice as the pool was right 'in our backyard' In the mornings sat on the lanai, drinking coffee and watching the whales spout off. Mr.Heckman was very gracious and easy to rent from. The office staff there was also very nice. I would highly recommend~we hope to be back!

We stayed in this condo in June 2009 and we loved it. The condo was wonderful and very kid friendly. Which was very important to me because I have 4 kids and the last thing I wanted was someone yelling at my kids because they were making too much noise. There were 7 of us in the condo and we had plenty of room. The bedrooms and the bathrooms are nice sized rooms. We never felt like we were stepping on each other. The best part about the condo is that it's on the first floor and it has a big back porch area with plenty of room for lounge chairs. We sat outside every night and listened to the waves crash against the rocks, it was wonderful. I totally would recommend this condo to anyone I knew especially if you have a large family. Also, Jim the owner was great I had to call him a couple of times before the trip to ask him questions about the condo and the area we were staying in, and he always called me or emailed right away to answer my questions. He was great about giving me ideas about what to do when we got to Hawaii and were to eat. Our family had the best vacation ever and I believe one of the reasons why is that we stayed in such a great place. Thanks Jim and thanks VRBO!!

We really enjoyed our sisters & daughters vacation at the Makahunea Condo. The condo is just a few steps away from looking over the ocean and the pool is right outside of the Lanai. Well kept grounds and beautiful sunsets. It is very comfortable and relaxing. There was plenty of room for the seven of us women, especially having two bathrooms. Having a kitchen area gave us the convience of making our own meals. It felt like home. The website pictures are exactly what it shows that are in the condo. Very nice and roomy. We spoke to other vacationers who stayed at near by hotels, who told us we had found a gold mine. They had paid twice as much for a room and the restaurant prices were quite high. Jim, the owner is great!. He always kept in contact with me on any questions that I had. I can't wait to take our husbands back to enjoy this terrific place. Thank you so much.
