We had a great stay on Kauai in this Makahuena Condo. It was perfect fort the 7 of us, including 3 grandkids. Everything was as described hitting our needs and expectations. The unit had everything we needed. Good value. We would recommend especially for families.

Recommended for:Families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Had a lovely week long stay at the condo in November. The accommodation has everything you need and then some. It was clean, large and nicely decorated. The complex is well-maintained and the staff there are very friendly and helpful. Great pool, jacuzzi and view of the ocean. Easy access to Shipwreck Peach and a few minutes drive into Poipu.

This condo made our time in Kauai perfect! It was in a great location near beaches & great restaurants. We felt centrally located to do daytrips to the North shore & to Waimea Canyon. The property was as described. With 7 of us staying there, we were all comfortable with plenty of living space. It was stocked with everything we needed to cook any or all of our meals there. It was very kid friendly (down to plastic drinking tumblers for the kids & swim noodles for the pool!) With 3 boys aged 6 & under, it made life easy! They loved having the pool right outside the lanai & yet we were close to Poipu beach (walking or quick drive, easy parking) for swimming and awesome snorkeling & boogie/body boarding (plus shaved ice at Brennecke's!) The condo has 3 TV's which was nice for winding down in the evening...kids could watch 1, grandma & grandpa on another, etc. We walked down to the "point" (just steps from the condo) everyday to see the sea turtles come up & eat off the rocks. The owner provided answers to any questions we had leading up to the vacation & the property managment was great on-site. My family was thrilled & we can honestly say this wouldn't have been such a perfect vacation if it wasn't for this amazing condo & it's location, amenities, etc! We look forward to doing again soon & would use this property again. Thank you!!

Great Trip

Our trip to Kauai was the best vacation we've ever been on. The condo worked out great for our group and the pool, jacuzzi and grounds were very well kept and clean. We enjoyed the view at both sunrise and sunset, and loved listening to the waves crash against the rocky cliffs. The location was great and we could walk to Shipwreck Beach in one direction and the Poipu Beaches in the other direction. The helicopter ride was breathtaking, and we also snorkeled, hiked the Nai Pali coast, went paddle boarding and kayaking and attended a luau. We definitely plan on coming back in the near future!

28 Days in Paradise

We enjoyed a wonderful 4 week stay at this condominium in July. Not having seen it personally, you always wonder just what you have gotten yourself into. I must say, we were very pleased at walking thru the door, checking out the accomodations and then taking in the view from the master bedroom, livingroom area and the lanai...looking to the left, looking to the right, the beautiful, colorful and impressive Pacific Ocean. I must say, the pictures on this site do not do the condo justice. It was great having the full size washer and dryer and had we been able to, would have taken the master king size bed home with us...it was so comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked as well as the bathroom, even with hair dryers and curling irons. Having the 3 TVs was great as our tastes varied on programming(had 10 year olds with us). I loved being able to listen to Hawaiian music on the living room TV. The waves crashing against the cliffs was awesome..the sea spray and the loud pounding surf, which by the way was not too noisy at the condo, but just heard enough to lull you to sleep. The pool was great, well kept, met some very nice people there. The staff was always friendly and accomodating. Although not on a beach, some famous and great ones were only a few minutes away. We enjoyed Kaloa Days, an annual July celebration and took in some of the activities, a great parade, super entertainment, and a dunes walk. We loved a boat/snorkeling ride around the NaPali coast, did horseback riding, and 2 Kipu Ranch ATV adventures, a zip line...all in the area of the condo. We enjoyed our usual eateries, Keoke's Paradise and Brenneke's and found some others, Scotty's Beachside BBQ in Kapaa and the Brick Oven Pizza in Kaleheo...some fun places, Dude Dogs, Bubba's, the Shrimp Shack, and Puka Dogs. Our host was very helpful in answering questions about the condo and the area. We would definately do a return visit to this condo!

Super nice condo at a great location

Our trip to Kauai was wonderful! We had 9 people (3 kids), and the condo was great! We all fit in and were able to sleep comfortably. The condo and the facilities at the Makahuena were just what we needed. It was very beautiful (waves crashing against the rocks), the kids loved the pool, and we enjoyed the relative convenience of the location too (beach right down the hill, short drives to most conveniences). The kitchen and washing machine/dryer made a big difference - we packed less and ate out less than if we had stayed in a hotel. But we really felt the experience was better in the condo. The owner was also very helpful including some tips on the best places to see and eat. Outside of the condo, we went deep sea fishing, snorkeling and hiking on the Napali coast, golfing at Kiahuna, and a nice sunset dinner at the Beach House. So with all that, we definitely had a great trip, and we would certainly rent from you again if we can find our way back to Kauai.

Perfect place for us. We stayed 9 nights (Dec '09) Very spacious. Ground level was nice as the pool was right 'in our backyard' In the mornings sat on the lanai, drinking coffee and watching the whales spout off. Mr.Heckman was very gracious and easy to rent from. The office staff there was also very nice. I would highly recommend~we hope to be back!

We stayed in this condo in June 2009 and we loved it. The condo was wonderful and very kid friendly. Which was very important to me because I have 4 kids and the last thing I wanted was someone yelling at my kids because they were making too much noise. There were 7 of us in the condo and we had plenty of room. The bedrooms and the bathrooms are nice sized rooms. We never felt like we were stepping on each other. The best part about the condo is that it's on the first floor and it has a big back porch area with plenty of room for lounge chairs. We sat outside every night and listened to the waves crash against the rocks, it was wonderful. I totally would recommend this condo to anyone I knew especially if you have a large family. Also, Jim the owner was great I had to call him a couple of times before the trip to ask him questions about the condo and the area we were staying in, and he always called me or emailed right away to answer my questions. He was great about giving me ideas about what to do when we got to Hawaii and were to eat. Our family had the best vacation ever and I believe one of the reasons why is that we stayed in such a great place. Thanks Jim and thanks VRBO!!

We really enjoyed our sisters & daughters vacation at the Makahunea Condo. The condo is just a few steps away from looking over the ocean and the pool is right outside of the Lanai. Well kept grounds and beautiful sunsets. It is very comfortable and relaxing. There was plenty of room for the seven of us women, especially having two bathrooms. Having a kitchen area gave us the convience of making our own meals. It felt like home. The website pictures are exactly what it shows that are in the condo. Very nice and roomy. We spoke to other vacationers who stayed at near by hotels, who told us we had found a gold mine. They had paid twice as much for a room and the restaurant prices were quite high. Jim, the owner is great!. He always kept in contact with me on any questions that I had. I can't wait to take our husbands back to enjoy this terrific place. Thank you so much.

We had the best time staying in this condo - it was better than even the pictures showed. Beautiful views, so close to the pool, and everything we needed was here. Friends who stayed elsewhere (and paid more money) were quite jealous when they came for a visit! Just steps from the condo we saw whales and a sea turtle and our son just loved watching the big waves splash against the rocks. The chairs, mats, etc. in the laundry closet were a great surprise and help when going to the beaches! We really hope to go back again in the near future. Thanks for everything!

Seven of us ages 7 to 74 spent a delightful 2 weeks at this condo. The pictures really didn't do it justice as it was roomier than expected and closer to the ocean than the pictures suggested. We could easily see whales spouting from the living room and walk a few seconds to the cliff-side benches for a closer view. The condo gave us enough comfortable and attractive space to gather in the living area, or to separate into the many private areas when desired. The location gave us easy access to the beaches, restaurants, shopping etc. All in all, a perfect vacation spot.

Jim, Tonight is the last night of our two week stay at your condo and we don't want to leave! The unit is equipped with everything we needed and the staff at the Makahuena were very friendly and helpful. We loved the view from the lanai, including spectacular sunsets! Jim, Thank you so much for making your wonderful condo available to rent. Kauai and your condo exceeded our expectations. The condo was very spacious, comfortable and relaxing, we did not want to leave. The view from the condo grounds was amazing. My sister rented a 2 bdr.2 bath condo closer to Poipu beach without a Pool or Hottub and paid over $100 more a night then we did. The one thing that they had that we didn't, the Roosters waking them up at 5 am every morning. We are already planning our return trip. Mahola, Janna

Sitting here in the Seattle July rain makes us want to return to the sunny Poipu area and unit 2103! Your unit is extremely large, spacious and comfortable. We loved being very close to the pool and hot tub and eating breakfast on the ground floor lanai surrounded by beautiful plants, flowers and birds. The excellent cross draft of tradewinds and ample fans kept us very comfortable in the summer temperatures. The beautiful sunsets, crashing waves and turtles on the point are just steps away. My husband golfed almost every day at nearby courses. The local open air markets are a must for fresh produce and flowers. I could go on and on. We definitely will return to this unit.

Our family loved our stay in Poipu and this condo made it so much nicer and was so convenient to both sides of the island. It housed a full kitchen with a full range of dishes, pans, etc. The large living room combined with the ability to open it up to the master bedroom really added that spacious feeling, giving it a full frontal glass view of the tropical grounds and ocean view. Even with 4 adults and 2 children we never felt like we were walking all over each other. Plenty of room for more family. We're looking forward to returning next year.

I stayed at Jim's condo in mid-march and found it to be perfect for my 4 adult and 2 child traveling party. It was very spacious and clean and felt like home. Jim's condo was in very good condition, close to the parking lot, pool and ocean overlook. Complex is close to 3 grocery stores and everything we needed to cook was in the unit already. We saw whales in the distance from the overlook - seemed like a one of the best places on the island to be able to see them.

We had a great time at Jim's condo. We spent 10 nights with 4 adults and 3 kids, it was perfect with the pool right next door for the kids and the older adults. The view was great, we saw whales and Dolphins from the patio. We hope to get back their again soon.

Our family of 7 stayed in Jim's condo in February and loved it. There was plenty of room and being on the ground floor just made it easier to run to the point when you noticed from the living room a whale breaching in the ocean. The beaches on either side of the complex are an easy 10 minute walk. We would definitely go back again.

We stayed at Jim's condo for 3 weeks and had a wonderful time in his spaceous 3b/r condo. Ground flr access, close to the swimming pool, and with a view of the ocean, sunrise/sunset and humpbacks was definitely an added benefit. Just returned from 2 weeks of pure relaxation in this condo. We give high marks all around for this property. You can watch the whales from the lanai, turtles in the cove over the bluff, birds on the lawn and sunsets from the point. The condo is very spacious and bug free, not even a gecko in sight! Well appointed and accomadating for the six of us. We would return.

My wife and I stayed at your condo and had a wonderful time. We loved the views from the point and the proximity to the pool. The condo is spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with pots & pans and utensils. We also used the outside BBQ. The location is close to golf, snorkeling and some great restaurants. We look forward to returning.

We returned last Friday from our fantastic family vacation (8 of us) at your beautiful condo at Poipu Beach. Our family of 4, along with Grandma and my niece stayed here for 8 nights and we just didn't want to leave! It was very spacious and nicely decorated without over doing it. The office personal were very helpful and the grounds were always clean. Our favorite things were having the pool right outside our door and the short walk to the cliffs. From the cliffs you could see turtles every day!

THIS UNIT WAS SPACIOUS AND COMFORTABLE AND THE FOUR OF US WHO STAYED THERE WERE QUITE AT HOME. THE GROUNDS WERE BEAUTIFUL AND WONDERFULLY (AS WELL AS QUIETLY) KEPT UP. THE STAFF WERE FRIENDLY AND VERY HELPFUL. THE VIEWS WERE SPECTACULAR AND WE COULDN'T RESIST TAKING MANY PHOTOS. WE FOUND IT VERY RELAXING AND DIDN'T WANT TO RETURN HOME. Our vacation to Kauai this summer was an adventure and the stay at the condo was perfect. The condo is very spacious, clean and convenient to activities,groceries and the beach. Everything you need is available. There were 8 of us and we were very comfortable. The grill is exremely nice, take advantage. The view is beautiful. Look forward to going again. Thanks!
