Contemporary Lakefront Cottage - No Cleaning Fee - $125
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Our cottage, built in 1997, provides the ideal setting for a romantic 'getaway for two' or perfect accommodations and lodging while touring Western Washington. We're a quick 90 miles from Seattle, 54 miles from Vancouver B.C. and just outside the city limits of Bellingham. The cottage is nestled among cedar and fir trees on tranquil acreage overlooking the lake and has a fully equipped kitchen/living area, bedroom, bathroom, a private porch and an abundance of skylights for stargazing.
Our cottage is for two adults only and the property won a 1997 AIA (State Architectural Award) for contemporary design. Please click on our website link below for more photos, reviews, etc. We also have unsolicited reviews for Squalicum Lake Cottage on major travel sites too. Pls note we have a two night minimum, no children, no pets. No smoking permitted in cottage.
The living room, with a vaulted beamed ceiling looks out onto Squalicum Lake and Squalicum Mountain. Large windows provide a view for watching the fish jump on the lake or enjoying the birds at the feeders. The cottage is situated in the middle of colorful perennial gardens and during the spring and fall you can see large flocks of migratory birds land on the lake.
The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave, stove, oven, toaster, coffee maker and refrigerator. Dishes, utensils and pans are provided as well.
A white iron and brass queen sized foam (tempurpedic type) bed is covered with lots of pillows making it a great place to snuggle or take that long sought after nap. The guests at Squalicum Lake Cottage come to slow the pace of their daily lives.
Eagles and a wide variety of other birds are a common sight as well as deer wandering through the meadow. Should you visit in the summer you might spot a heron or kingfisher looking for a bite to eat in the 26,000-gallon pond right outside your door. Dozens of frogs chorus at evening time, along with soft owl duets often heard after dark.
Two night minimum at $125 plus taxes/nite. Weekly rate of $800 plus tax.
Our guests initial comments are always that the website photos never do the property justice. How does one capture an entire mountain behind a lake?

Your cottage was just what the doctor ordered for us this weekend. The setting of your cottage is amazing---from the way it's placed among the trees, to the placement of the windows to capture all the light and views of the lake, to the birdfeeders, which provided no small amount of entertainment! Except for a ride into Fairhaven for lunch, we were perfectly content here. Blessings on you in this place of peace...Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

There are so many reasons that the cottage was the perfect place for our stay and I'll bear testament to your artistry and kindness. First is the peaceful rural setting, just close enough to splendid Bellingham but accessible to all the region's attractions. There there is the cozy and comfortable design of the cottage and it's many appointments and the way it nestles into the grove of trees and lovely garden of your making. And finally there is that splendid compilation of books, pamphlets and notes that you provided, so kindly, to help us learn about and enjoy the regions many attractions. Thanks so much to both of you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

To have found Squalicum Lake Cottage-- and the perfects hosts on the Internet no less, is sheer serendipity...a pleasant surprise, a happy accident. We have had a few of those on our journeys but never so perfect. We felt at ease with the 'natives', Washingtonians and critters alike, outdoorsey, natural and open minded. Bellingham with its waterfront parks and mountains kept us walking, visiting and watching, even enjoying the Music Festival and plays at Mt Baker Theatre andmuch more. Thank you Liane and John for sharing the beauty and serenity with your guests.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the Squalicum Lake cottage and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the solitude, birdwatching, strolling around the property, boating on the lake, and talking to the owners. There are many "extra" touches such as fresh flowers from the garden on the table, a club card to use to get discounts at the nearest grocery store, and a small ice chest to take on picnics. We look forward to staying there again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad you had such a nice time here. Every season is different here--- so we look forward to your return. This morning there were 6 white swans on the lake and 5 deer in the field.

John and Liane was very prompt and professional. As you drive in through the private road you notice how much care they put into this place. With a well manicured beautiful garden and the pond welcomed my girlfriend and I and the view leading to the lake was breathtaking. We took advantage of their rowboat and only wished I brought a fly fishing rod. You will enjoy eagles and hawks soaring above with many different birds visiting. We even had couple deers enjoying some fresh snack in the morning in the garden.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad you two had such a good time. The friendly deer are outside at the moment 'enjoying a snack.'

The cottage was better than advertised. The surrounding gardens are amazing, the cottage was squeaky clean, and we slept like babies in the cool and soooo quiet Washington nights. The location, a few miles out of town, was remote enough to be very private, but close enough to run in for groceries or dining. It was also perfect for exploring Mt. Baker, the Seattle area, the San Juan Islands, and even Vancouver. We'll definitely stay there again if we get back to the area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: So glad you enjoyed yourselves. Last nite we were serenaded by 2 coyotes for quite awhile! Hope to see you again in the future.

My husband and I found this cottage to be everything we were looking for while we explored the area around Bellingham. It was a retreat from the rest of the world. Loved the huge windows in the living area with beautiful view of the lake. We found it to be very private and peaceful. The owner, John was very gracious and helpful during our stay. I loved coming back to the cottage after a day of exploring and just sit on the sofa and watch the birds feed outside the windows. The sunsets were glorious on the lake. Loved the architecture of the cottage and the main house. The grounds were just beautiful. Only regret we never got around to using the row boat! Hoping on our next visit to chill out on the lake. You feel so far removed from the rest of the world even though you are close to all the amenities you would want. Great location to explore the surrounding area. Looking forward to returning in the fall. If you are looking for beauty and the peace of the northwest this cottage is the place to go. Thanks to the owners for sharing their piece of paradise.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
