The Place Is What It Is--But Unforeseen Problems Can Really Push It Over the Line

The pictures are true, and to be clear, the entire condo is about as big as the pictures. But that's fine for two people. And what a price! Unfortunately, we experienced some problems while we were there, and we couldn't accept them all. We were supposed to stay there five nights; we left after one. While the space, including the little details such as the dishes in the kitchenette, seemed really clean, the sign about bed bugs in the elevator was concerning. We shook the bed, didn't see anything; checked for bites the next morning, didn't find any. Waikiki is of course 24 hours of busyness, but we found that it doesn't have to be 24 hours of loudness--the street this condo is on is uniquely loud. I think about five garbage trucks went down the road in one night. And the paid parking is pretty tricky--the attached garage is truly something like twelve spaces, which were always full. Still, we were OK with staying--we'd rented a relatively cheap place just to sleep. So far we didn't have anything that really merited heavy complaint. Then the plumbing involving the above condo's toilet started dripping down into our bathroom. It did appear to be the incoming--the clean--water, but it was still a leaking ceiling that would surely require repair (which may have dragged on even longer than usual because the building is a mixed use of rented-out units and full-time lived-in units, so we were on the schedules of the permanent residents who lived above our unit), and our vacation had only just begun. We would still be there during all that. The project manager for this unit was very good--he responded right away to our call. Later that day (after we'd called around to see if there was any other availability elsewhere, and there was; Honolulu is expensive and busy but you can find last-minute more niceness for not much more money), we called him to say we simply couldn't stay and we would like our money, minus two nights, back. He agreed with understanding and without argument, and we did get all of that money back. At least there is that! That does mean something.

My husband and I rented this studio and were pleasantly surprised...the studio was clean, the bed comfy, the bathroom clean and the kitchenette a great surprise, complete with dishes, microwave, hot plate, mini fridge and dishes.
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
