Location: Venice, Veneto, Italy, Europe (Located on Venice Mainland, Just 20 Minutes from Venice) View Map
Accommodations: Villa, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5 Baths (Sleeps 12-14)
Villa San Toma is perfectly located just 20 minutes from Venice and 15 minutes from the popular beach resorts of Lido Di Jesolo & Caorle. The train from the local town of San Dona Di Piave will transport our guests into the centre of magical Venice in just 20 minutes. It is convenient to both Marco Polo and Treviso airports. The villa sits at the end of a private road nestled amongst 20,000 hectares of Walnut farm and a neighbouring Veneto Vineyard where guests can taste and buy the wonderful Veneto wines. The property is equipped with every luxury from the Venetian antique beds and furnishings to the luxury Egyptain Cotton bedding, Duck Down Pillows and Duck Down Duvets (anti-allergy of course). There are mosquito screens on every window. There is no air conditioning but please don't let this worry you as the house is really big and cool inside provided you keep the shutters closed during the day. We also provide fans in case they are needed, but truthfully these are only needed on about 4 nights of the year. The Villa is accessed by electronic gates and there is plenty of parking space. You will be given a remote control for the gates with your keys.
The living area off the kitchen leading to the terrace has been decorated in a more contemporary style, but still with a touch of the classical and opulence. This area houses a large plasma TV, Home theatre system, DVD player and SKY Satellite TV. Double doors from here lead onto the glamorous tranquil tanning terrace. It is very Nikki beach style and is lit up at night by wonderful candles & torches to make a perfect setting for outdoor entertaining. A BBQ frames the terrace area for that summer outdoor eating experience. UNLIKE MOST ITALIAN VILLAS THERE ARE MOSQUITO SCREENS ON ALL OF THE WINDOWS HERE. The mosquitos aren't too bad at all here. They are better out here than in the local town and in Venice they are quite bad in the height of summer, but as long as you apply spray or wipes it's fine.
The owners live on-site in a connected but separate access apartment area, but aim to be as unobtrusive to guests as possible unless our services are required. We aim to provide as much guidance and advice to our guests as possible to ensure they have the best possible holiday. We can also provide a professional bar service including cocktails and the best Bellini in Venice! My husband often serves as a professional tour guide of Venice for our guests and can accompany them into Venice if this service is required.
Our wonderful neighbours (who are more like family) will be happy to let you taste and buy their wonderful Veneto region wines to accompany perhaps a fresh fig, Mozzarella and Basil salad, made from our own fig tree in the gardens. We also have lemons, oranges and pomegranates. Fresh herbs are also grown in the garden to make the best of your cooking.
The biggest town nearby is San Dona Di Piave which is about 5 minutes drive. There is also a very up-market Italian Designer outlet store about 5 minutes from here where you can buy Frette bedding for a fraction of the prices you would pay in Venice, plus Armani, Gucci and many other brands. There are local restaurants within a few minutes drive that are very high quality, with very low cost compared to what you will experience in Venice. The local supermarket is only 3 minutes drive away. The road we are located on runs alongside a canal that is widely used by local fishermen and in the area around the villa you can see much beautiful wildlife like Peacocks, Pheasants, Cranes, Rabbits and Hares. Why not catch your own fish and cook it on the BBQ?
You are ideally situated to visit the entire Veneto region from Villa San Toma, including the beautiful historic town of Treviso, the home of Benetton, with wonderful shops and restaurants (20 mins), Verona (made famous by Romeo & Juliet - 1 hr drive), Padova, Vicenza, Bassano Del Grappa, Montebelluno or even take a day trip to the Lakes and see Gardaland with the kids. The two popular nearby beach resorts of Caorle & Lido Di Jesolo are also worth a visit.

Combine Magical Venice & a Beach Holiday from Our Luxury Villa
Year Purchased: 2008
Why the Owner Chose Venice
I sold my home in Ireland and we bought this beautiful sanctuary together set amongst a walnut farm and vineyard. We bought it because it is perfectly located between Venice (20 minutes) and the popular beach resorts of Lido Di Jesolo & Hemmingway's favourite place - Caorle. It is so private and tranquil here and we have been blessed with wonderful neighbours - the Vidalis who operate the Vineyard and often give free samples :-) We have decided it is much too big and beautiful not to share and we have created a separate ground floor apartment for ourselves with separate access, leaving 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, gym, bar, terrace and living/kitchen areas for our guests. We love people, cooking, entertaining, art, music and interiors. The guests who stay here usually become life long friends.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa
Together, we make wonderful hosts and go out of our way to make sure guests have the best possible holiday here, while being unobtrusive unless our services are required. My husband Thomas reputedly makes the best Bellini cocktails in Venice so we often do these as welcome drinks for guests if they like the idea. Our main business now is importing and wholesaling luxury furniture from Egypt.
From Villa San Toma either take the train from San Dona Di Piave and be in the centre of Venice in just 20 minutes or you can drive and park at Piazale Roma in the multi-story car park.
This was a favourite spot of Ernest Hemmingway. Caorle is a very pretty beach resort and buzzing with activity in the summer season. It's 15 minutes drive from Villa San Toma.
Lido Di Jesolo beach resort is buzzing with young people and nightlife in the summer season. There is also a big Aqua Park for the kids and an Aquarium Exhibit.
Catch the train directly into the centre of Venice in just 20 minutes. The train station at San Dona Di Piave is just 5 minutes drive from Villa San Toma. Avoid large parking fees at Piazale Rom.
Beautiful old historic town with water running through it. Lots of old stone buildings, watermills and beautiful architecture. Home of Benetton, wonderful shops & restaurants and fantastic fish market
Picturesque old stone town in the mountain area. Beautiful scenery on the drive to here with great views of the Dolomite Mountains. Amazing Deli here.
A beautiful historic town. Good shops and restaurants and wonderful central Piazza. Vicenza is known as the jewelry manufacturing capital of the world. It is also where Roberto Coin Jewelry is based.
The Basilica of St Anthony is the main sight to see in Padova - in fact a place of pilgrimage for some. Its construction began immediately after the death of the Santo (1231) and then completed.
Famed as the home of Romeo & Juliet. You can visit the Romeo & Juliet balcony. Good for shopping and restaurants too. Especially antique shops and it is a big center for artisan furniture makers too.
This is a wonderful up-market Outlet centre for Italian Designers. Here you will find Frette Bedding, Armani, Gucci and many other well known names at a fraction of the price you can buy elsewhere.
Owner's Map of Venice
My husband and I just met in Venice two years ago. I am Irish and he is Nubian Egyptian, but he has worked in Venice for the last 20 years. My husband has always been a hotelier and worked in luxury Grand Canal hotels and for JW Marriott Group Internationally before that. His guests always loved him and many came back year after year just because of him. I was one of those guests but I decided to keep him ;-) After a whirlwind romance, we married exactly one year later to the day on a large boat on the Grand Canal basin. I used to come to the area a lot on business as I had a major client in Vicenza, but this time was a holiday with my Dad. My background is in Marketing & Media. I specialize in online marketing.

Dear Sherril & Thomas. Where to start? We had such a fantastic time that it's almost impossible topick out the highlights - Thomas's Bellinis, our first introduction to scropinos, the irresistable Jeeves & Wooster!, the luxurious furnishings, the peaceful surroundings, the sheer attention to detail, but the most important factor in making our stay with you so special was yourselves - you are the perfect hosts.Relaxed & generous with your hospitality, your advice and your time. Sherril & Thomas are very thoughtful, hospitable and full of joy (though unobtrusive). They've made our stay at the villa pleasant and memorable. We loved the villa, it's surroundings, quietness and laid back atmosphere. We'd definitely recommend Villa San Toma to people who want to get both the best of nearby sightseeing and the serenity of being just slightly off the buzz. Verislava, Laska & the team - Bulgaria
