This home features a lovely, mature courtyard garden that is filled with sunshine every morning. In the colonial mode all rooms open onto this garden. Located at the far end of a gated community (24 hour guards), it is very private with a front-and-center view of the nearby Agua Volcano. No need for a car here---it's a 2 block walk to both the central food market and also the craft market; just 5 blocks to the center square of Antigua and many diverse restaurants. On nearly every block one can find a fine Spanish school, a vine-covered, ruined church, and a family-run "tienda" (shop).
Included in the home is a loyal housekeeper who works quietly behind the scenes on Monday and Thursday from 8 to 4 pm. A gardener comes twice per month. There are 2 bedrooms/baths upstairs and 2 down. French doors of the master bedroom open onto a terrace with umbrella table and chairs. There is a communal vegetable garden next to the house, tended by the gardeners. The dining room has a large table seating 8 people. There is also an electric Yamaha keyboard and a Bose CD/radio.
This house is ideal for 3 or 4 couples or a family with well-behaved children. It offers a chance to experience first-hand a delightful culture and a picturesque city, where the indigenous Guatemalans sport their traditional costumes. Renters in the past have enrolled their children in a kindergarten across the street. There's even a fish monger who comes to the gate every Monday morning to sell fresh fish from the Pacific! Just ask the guards to call you to tell you he is here! There's a large "one-stop shop" grocery store 3 blocks from the house.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2001
I am a retired school teacher/homemaker and an appreciator of the Guatemalan people and their culture. My husband is a retired physician who volunteers in 2 Antigua clinics. We love to play tennis at the Club Antiguenen in San Felipe, a 10 minute ride in a "tuk-tuk" or taxi from our house. We usually walk home, stopping in at a "Neveria" for a delicious ice cream cone. I go to the market with a backpack on any of the 3 market days of the week, and I find the most delicious fresh melons, mangos, and pineapples. We also walk to the American Legion Lending Library, which has a huge selection of books. We enjoy music concerts that are offered around town, sometimes in lovely lighted monastery ruins.
Why the Owner Chose Antigua
We fell in love with Antigua when we came down here for my husband to work with a project, Common Hope. My goal was to improve my Spanish, and I went to Spanish school and lived with a family. After this we were hooked! Antigua has an ideal climate and a fantastic setting in a valley in the highlands. Called the "rose capitol of the country," it boasts many gorgeous varieties of flowers that bloom most of the year.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We belong to a private tennis club with swimming pool, hot tub, and squash courts. For an additional moderate fee from the club, our renters are allowed to use it for the duration of their stay.
We offer our renters the use of a cell phone while staying at our house. Ask the manager if you are interested.
