This property is an ideal and restful retreat on two acres - tucked away in a secluded knoll next to town woods and just back from the Stockbridge Bowl (Lake Mahkeenak), a beautiful, swimable, sailable lake. Privacy assured, yet five minutes away from Tanglewood; easy drive to theater, restaurants, Jacob's Pillow, and other summer events of the Berkshires.
The house itself is a contemporary three story rustic cabin of weathered cedar, with many windows and skylights providing great light. French doors open onto an ample deck and private hot tub, which itself faces lawns, a lovely flower garden and beautiful scenery, with woods behind. When the lake is full, there is a waterfall and brook abutting the property.
This Non-Smoking cabin - I never know whether to call it house or cabin - with walls of rough-hewn wood, pine finished floors, a tall cathedral ceiling rising from the first floor, with open living room, dining area (facing garden), and fully-equipped open kitchen with butcher-block counter space. The entrance to the house is through a screened-in porch, which is lovely for sitting on summer evenings.
On the second floor are one complete bedroom, a bath, and a large sleeping loft/den with new stacked washer-dryer. Stairs then lead to the third floor which is a private loft/master bedroom, with two wrap-around small decks and a skylight - a lovely treetop retreat. On the property is a new wood storage shed which can house extra deck chairs, etc. Also included will be the use of our kayak and canoe.
The house is, we believe, wonderfully imaginative, individual, and whimsical. It will appeal to a special taste, and at the same time provides all the comforts of a more conventional home. Pictures will follow, when we learn to scan them on!
