The Owl House, Scotland, is an idyllic, luxurious private family Farm house, sleeping 10, set in over 80 acres of meadows, criss-crossed by burns and small waterfalls (providing many pools for fun), surrounded by spectacular views of unspoilt Scottish hills , forests and south Ayrshire moorland as far as the eye can see. It is situated next to the Galloway Forest Park which was announced by the International Dark Sky Association as one of the best places for Dark Skies stargazing in the world. It offers a mountain top log burning hot tub to star watch at night or with spectacular views down the valley during the day whilst enjoying the rare wildlife and birds. The Owl House was featured as one of Harper's Bazaar Magazine's Top 10 UK Retreats for 2009 (see online).

The Owl House is ideal for 6 adults and four children. It is also perfect for a romantic getaway, a group of friends or fishing parties.

It is very tastefully decorated but in a rustic manner making it practical for families. Both modern and traditional in style and function; exemplified by it's eclectic mix of classic, ethnic and modern furniture it also boasts underfloor heating and an open fire. The House is fully modernized; from the kitchen (Aga, dishwasher, electric hobs and electric ovens) to the entertainment facilities (Sky Plus, HD flat screen, DVD, video, stereo and iPod hub).

The location is remote and in an extremely tranquil and picturesque setting. It is an ideal getaway for all ages and a paradise for walkers and hikers with the right to roam all over the surrounding scenery. Popular for fishing due to its close location to rivers and lochs including fisherman's favourites: the Stinchar and Girvan rivers. Castles (Culzean Castle) and other historical sites (Glen Trool) are within a short drive. The location is also a favourite for the keen golfer; Turnberry Golf course (20 minutes drive) and Royal Troon Golf course (30 minutes drive).

The picturesque Ayrshire coast with its beautiful beaches are 20 minutes away and from the hillside that the house is perched on, there are beautiful views of Ailsa Craig and Arran island (a short boat ride away); boat rides and sea fishing are available in Girvan. Prestwick airport is within a 40 minute drive and Glasgow International Airport is well within an hour and a half drive of the house.

An ideal family retreat with many features for children not least, outdoor swings and climbing nets and a 9 square meter tree house perched in the walled garden. One of the four bedrooms is the owner's kids' bedroom and playroom – it has its own TV and video/DVD player. On request, toys and small childrens' equipment can be provided rather than stored away.

Full time and part time housekeeping can be arranged as can the family's favoured local chef. Dalduff farm shop is down the road and a must for local delicacies and fresh meat. Cycling is popular not least because the famous A7 cycle route across Scotland goes past the edge of the property. But above all else, this is a place for ramblers, hikers of all abilities or for those who prefer a stroll or a picnic in the hills or mountains around the Owl House.

The Owl House,Remote Luxury Vacation - Special Winter Deals!

Year Purchased: 2003

Why the Owner Chose Turnberry

Because it is very remote and whenever we rented remote properties, they tended to be very basic and we wanted something that was very comfortable and luxurious.

The Unique Benefits at this House

1. Peace and quiet
2. Spectacular views
3. Luxury in the mountains
4. It's a fun place with so much to do, see and explore.

Owner's Map of Turnberry

We bought this house as a place to retreat from the world - as a place for our children to grow up in and adore - to spend their vacations surrounded by nature. Its offers easy access from London where we live - a one hour flight and 30 minute drive to the door - and we spend as much time there as possible. We spent 4 years building and renovating the house, to make it as comfortable as possible with all mod cons yet traditional and in keeping with the surroundings. When sitting beside our waterfall or lying on the old French bed in the living room window looking down the valley and across to the mountains and moors, modern city life is a million miles away. If you want to taste the Scotland in history books and novels, this is the place. If you want shops, nightlife or city lights then give it a miss! Our nightlife are the owls , our shop a local farmer who supplies organic meat to order and the only bright lights on the horizon are the stars.

Going Back asap

The Owl House was spendid. Beautiful views, good views, hiking. It was isolated but close to good food and friendly people. We could not quite get the hot tub all that hot but it was warm enough to watch more shooting stars than we have ever seen. Aga stove is marvelous for cooking and warmth. Lovely patio, What else can I say other than we are planning to return next year!

The perfect place to stay

My family and I had the most fantastic time at the Owl House. It's set in a beautifully remote spot surrounded by moorland, hills, streams and forest. The house is just as it looks in the picture - couldn't be better. We went on some great walks - you can go pretty much in any direction from the house so you are pretty spoiled for choice. But also its the perfect place just to take it easy near the house. Inside it's seriously comfortable - definitely built for relaxation. Our children ( 9,6,3) loved the freedom and we all loved the wood fired hot tub which is a brilliant addition. Definitely one for us to go back to.

wonderful place

Somehow, we managed to combine hiking, golf and fishing in one holiday. The Owl house has some of the best fishing and golf courses i have experienced and better still they are all close by. The house is gorgeous; very comfortable and very well appointed (and i do not say that lightly). We loved listening to music looking at the amazing views. We found Gary the house keeper to be a dream; well worth paying extra for their help each day if not only for the fact they kept us supplied with wine and whiskey! We will return next year and this time we are going to take Gary's recommendation and try out the local chef....that should give us more time in the evening for the hot tub!

A truely stunning experience

The setting is stunning, as is the house. It is a perfect get away. We were worried that it might be cold in the Scottish mountains but we were pleasantly surprised to discover this beautiful bolt hole is very snug, warm and extremely comfortable and well appointed. Moreover we had glorious sunshine that enabled our kids to bathe in the burns regardless that it was september! Bravo to the owners for finding this spot and building something that is quite unique.

We had a great time in the Owl House, the kids loved the play room and the tree house, was very remote which we loved as we had a great break. The Broadband was not available as was advertised which was not so good as we are self employed and had hoped to keep up to date with work but this was not possible, if this was fixed it would be ideal for a peaceful break. thanks.

Owner response:sorry about the broadband susan. the weather had taken it out and getting someone up to reinstall it quickly is hard, due to the remoteness. we have now taken broadband off the particulars so as not to disappoint; so it will either be available or not to a guest. sorry again. best
