This apt has been renovated in April 2009 and updated in March 2010 by the architect/ owner. It is a spacious one bedroom apt (57m2/ 615 sqft) up two flights of stairs with the living areas off the street and bedroom on a quiet courtyard. The building was built in the 1800's and is situated on rue Commines which was named after Philippe de Commines who was the historian for Louis XI. The neighborhood is very safe and the apt is accessed through the building via a door code and intercom/ key. The apt is equipped with all the amenities to make yourself at home and furnished with a new high quality bed for restful nights and armoire, dining set and dishes handed down from the French grandparents. The high speed wifi internet and unlimited calling to many countries makes it easy to stay in touch while you're away or get away from it all...it's your choice!
There are wonderful open air and covered food markets, florists, cheese mongers, butchers, grocery stores, wine shops...a great slice of Parisian life all just steps away. And don't forget the fabulous bakeries!
Le Marais is a wonderful place to hang out. This is the new hip and trendy place to be! Shop on rue Vieille du Temple and rue des Francs Bourgeois; visit hip galleries on rue Commines and rue Vielle du Temple; take in some culture at the Picasso museum as well as a coffee and some sun in their garden or head down to Place de Vosges for some sunning and people watching. Don't miss out on all the cafés, restaurants and bars too.
You'll enjoy the central location and may never want to leave...though there is life outside of Le Marais. Transportation is just at your footstep with the metro line 8 at Filles du Calvaire around the corner and lines 3, 5 and 9 at Republique and Oberkampf just a few minutes walk further. There are buses too (96, 65, 20...) and try the Velib, Paris's new bike rental program.
We're sure that you will enjoy your stay in Paris and hope that you'll make our home your home away from home.

Why the Owner Chose Paris Arrondissement 3
My husband and I decided to buy in this neighborhood because it was so central with lots of amenities. It's a wonderful part of the Marais that isn't too touristy even though you're steps away from everything. You'll feel and live like a real Parisian.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
Grab a coffee or lunch in the many wonderful cafés, take a stroll down rue de Bretagne to find lots of shops; cheese mongers, butchers, fish mongers, florists, traiteurs, grocery stores large and small, open markets, galleries, shopping...You'll love all the conveniences. There's easy access to transportation though you'll probably find yourself walking to everything. The only downside is that you may never want to leave even though there is life outside of the Marais! From the apt, you can walk to the Seine over to Ile St. Louis for an ice cream at Berthillon, listen to the organ at Notre Dame and head to St. Germain for some shopping and sightseeing too. You can also take the metro and visit the Louvre, the Eiffel tower and the Champs Elysees...but you'll come back to enjoy the intimacy of "Le Marais".

I'm American and my husband is French. We have a 3 year old "Parisian" who has thoroughly enjoyed all of the parks in the neighborhood. After 4 years of enjoying our slice of French life, we've now moved to Switzerland due to work. We couldn't see ourselves parting with our home in Paris and wanted to share it with others too...so that is why we're renting it on VRBO. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Le Beau Marais es Tres Bonne!

My wife and I recently spent a week at Le Beau Marais. This is the fifth time we have rented an apartment for a stay in Paris and this was by far the best property we have stayed in. The apartment is impeccable, and in contrast to our previous experience, everything is "of a piece". The rooms are well appointed - nicely and comfortably furnished with matching pieces, and nice color scheme. The kitchen has everything one needs - including various supplies (honey, olive oil, salt, pepper, sugar) and a comprehensive book or instructions and recommended activities and places to eat. Everything worked without difficulties - including the wi-fi and washer/dryer! The location is superb - at the cross-roads of the Marais and Belleville areas, with markets, restaurants, and shopping galore. Thank you Ellen!

We are now back home after our holiday in Europe and we fell in love with both Paris and Ellens wonderful apartment. Let me start by saying the flat is located in a wonderfully authentic part of Paris with lovely bars, restaurants, boulangeries, markets and all esentials close by. There are numerous metro stops at hand (very easy to navigate), which means greater Paris and all its attractions is only ever a short while away. The apartment itself is just beautiful and the perfect place for a couple to base themselves for a holiday. It is as depicted by the photos (actually it is better as you can't feel the comfort of the bed from a photo), and was spotlessly clean and welcoming. Even though we were in Paris with it's wonderful restaurants we also enjoy using some of it's fresh produce to cook up the odd meal. With that in mind I can fully recommend the kitchen, with it's gas hob and its full range of utensiles. The apartments open plan meant that I could conjure up a meal whilst keeping an eye on my wife's wine glass for topping up. There are some wonderful coffee table books to pour over whilst enjoying a cup, and its these small details which made our stay more comfortable and also highlights the difference between a hotel and a real home. Ellen arranged for a contact to meet us and run through the details of the flat ( wash machine details, rubbish disposal etc.). My wife and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ellen for allowing us to use her flat for a short time ( I only wish It could have been longer). I would also take this opportunity to sincerly recommend " Le Beau Marais" as a base to fall in which to fall in love with Paris from.

This is a charming, very well-furnished and comfortable apartment in the most interesting, enjoyable part of Paris. Great boulangerie, pâtisserie, fromagerie, wine store and grocery store around the corner on Rue de Bretagne. My wife did some very successful clothes shopping in the Marais. There are plenty of great restaurants within a short walk. With the front windows open you get the feel (and noise) of the street; with them closed it's very quiet. The owner has provided a comprehensive instruction manual.

The apartment is truly "beau", extremely comfortable and conveniently located. We enjoyed all the space and the appointments, the great kitchen and bath and the abundance of light. This is definitely a five star property and one that we will return to and highly recommend to friends. Ellen has gone out of the way to provide all the info you could possibly want about Paris and the wonderful Marais neighborhood. We really felt like we lived there. Merci beacoup for sharing your place.

The apartment is lovely - while the photos are good and accurately depict what is there, the atmosphere is much more charming. We loved opening the long windows and looking out into the small, shop-lined street. Very European feel,... The owners were really helpful in facilitating arrangements to get us in to the apartment for our stay as well as getting us from the airport to the apartment. There are many small shops, restaurants and cafes within a close walk. There is a bus stop across from the apartment as well as a subway station one block away. The transportation system (both bus and metro) are really easy to navigate. Next time we come we'd check to see if Paris has anything like a CityPass for transportation, museums, etc. Recommend pre-booking museums and other tourist attractions (Eiffel Tower) to avoid long lines (2.5 hrs). All of Paris is amazing,... we would absolutely stay at this place again and would absolutely recommend this property to others.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this great apartment. The location in the northern area of the Marais was close to all forms of transportation, restaurants, and shops yet it was also a quiet retreat. (On hot days with open windows it would be less quiet!) Everything was exactly as pictured, we especially enjoyed the spacious bedroom on the courtyard side of the building and lazy breakfasts in the dining area. Another treat was the nearby Oberkampf outdoor market on Tues and Fri. The owner and rental agent were helpful and available as advertised. The Marais district is full of fun bistros so not much cooking was done...there are lots of guidebooks and handy tips available too, although not always the latest editions. Picasso Museum is currently closed, but the Pompidou and Jewish History Museum were easy to walk to. The two flights up a spiral staircase weren't bad. All in all a wonderful experience!

Loved our time in Paris & this great apartment not only enabled us to live in the heart of the fantastic Marais but also to enjoy the comforts of a top quality home base that was exactly as portrayed. Our contact with the owner, our welcome from the agent & the house notes were all first-rate. We had such fun discovering the wonders of the neighbourhood; we won’t recommend anything as wish to leave that pleasure up to you. A treat for us was the large framed map: we would come home & go over our exploring on the map – loved it – even if some-times amazed at how far we had walked. First week friends used the “couch” & said it was very comfortable – as was the main bed. As we enjoy cooking we found many places to buy delicious ingredients & our only minor hitch was that we sometimes found the cooking equipment a little lacking. Overall a great place & we would highly recommend it.

Le Beau Marais is a delightful, roomy apartment in the Marais district of Paris. The location is convenient to all kinds of services, restaurants and the Metro. The neighborhood is safe and friendly. The apartment shows exactly like the photos and includes all the listed amenities. It was clean, well- maintained, and quiet. Everything worked. The owner was helpful and available. Any questions were answered immediately by email. For the value, I doubt that there is a better place to stay in Paris.

Fabulous apartment, tastefully decorated, high quality kitchen equipment... the web site photos accurately reflect reality. Property was clean on arrival and everything worked. Payments and refund of the security deposit were easy and hassle free. The bedroom faces a quiet courtyard so we slept really well... we had friends who stayed on the couch and they were pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was for a sofa bed. Le Beau Marais is in a fabulous Paris neighbourhood with a nice mix of locals and not too touristy. It is close to many major attractions and just steps away from the nearest Metro. Great shopping and quaint cafes dot every corner. We'd definitely stay again and would recommend it to others.
