Great house!! Perfect for families...kids loved being able to explore and we loved not worrying about cars, or strangers. Conveniently located for trips to Bend or Sisters. Such a peaceful place to unwind after our days of baseball. Thanks so much for sharing your home!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Wow! What a great review from our very first guests at our vacation home! Their comments echo exactly what we feel; no worries, lots of space to run around and a great place to relax. We look forward to these folks coming back! Thank you so very much - Chris and Louise

My family of five from San Diego met with sibling family of three from Seattle for a wonderful week in Bend. This home was the perfect place for all of us to stay and make memories. It was unusually snowy and cold outside, but the house was warm (very important for us from San Diego!) and very roomy. We had ages ranging from 15 to 77 and all had their own beds, space to gather in small groups and space for all to gather around wood stove and TV. The house was very comfortable including many amenities in the kitchen, plush beds and more. We have rented many VRBO homes in the past. This was absolutely the best home for 8-10 people in which we have stayed. Plus, the owners were absolutely wonderful. They were very professional with the rental agreement and funds but also did everything possible to make our stay wonderful. I highly recommend this home.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I previously reviewed this property and had concern about the owners handling of a couple of extra days we stayed and the rental charge. Additionally I suggest that a vacuum would be nice to have access to and air conditioning would have been nice. The owner sent me a refund for the adjusted rental charge along with a very nice letter. She explained that the rental rate was her over site and made no excuses, I greatly appreciated that. She also stated that they were adding a vacuum cleaner for renters use. Once again this is a owner who cares!!! The home had no air conditioning which is normal for central Oregon but once again the owner is looking into solutions for those few hot days. The location of the house is interesting and for the right group is a great option. It is large and on about 4 acres. Great bedding and linens, here were enough dishes and pots and pans for a mid sized restaurant, the pantry was fully stocked. If you want a great getaway for a couple that love to cook, enjoy a warm fire, glass of wine and just relaxing for a quiet evening or a big group with lots of kids. The home is on about 4 acres at the end of about a 1/4 mile of dirt road, no neighbors for the kids to bother. Once again I thank the owners for being so attentive and correcting a issue without making excuses, very refreshing. I have to give this property 5 stars if you want a get away in a beautiful siting.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The house was moderately clean and there was welcome basket of smacks and drinks for our use upon arrival, a nice touch. The location was a little hard to find on a unmarked dirt road. The home is a 2 story 3 bedroom 1 3/4 bath which for 9-10 would be crowded. The home is suited for 2 couples or a family with 2 kids, there just are not enough bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped, the interior furnishings are average, parking is on dirt so lots of dirt is tracked in the house but no vacuum was available. The view is of the Tumalo farm area but no Cascade mountain view. There is some road noise from hwy 20. No thing that is a negative during the summer is that there is no air conditioning. The house gets hot during the day and did not cool off at night. When we were there it was in the 90's and there was a fire in Sisters so the smoke was bad and we could not open the windows, so we cooked for several days. The house is on a dirt road and dirt driveway, there is a fenced yard but no grass just dirt. Just my wife and I were there for business meeting so the house worked OK and if fire smoke were not a problem not having A/C would not have been a big problem. The one thing that did tick me off was that we needed to extend our stay by two days the price gouged me. I checked VRBO the see if the unit was rent before contacting the owner to extend. The unit was not rented so I contacted the owner to extend our week long stay by 2 days. She agreed but instead of extending the rental rate by the weekly rate she charged us the daily rate. This indicated to me that she did not care about retaining my business. In conclusion, we regularly do business in Bend next time I will look for a better rental before resorting to this unit.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children.

I didn't realize when booking that this house didn't have air conditioning or that the weekend we chose would end up being almost 100degree heat. We couldn't sleep because of it. It is a very beautiful home but very over priced for what you get. Gorgeous view but no pool or hot tub and with no AC not a good choice for the summer's there.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: We were sorry to hear that our guests were inconvenienced by the weather. There are a few days in the High Country Desert of Bend where the temperature does spike up in the summer. We do include portable fans in every bedroom and have a very large ceiling mounted fan in the great room. We even have a couple of portable swimming pools in the barn. We do not advertise that we have a hot tub, air conditioning, or a swimming pool in the list of amenities for our home. As far as being over-priced, our pricing has been set at market rates. A quick check of vacation homes in the Bend area easily shows that we are moderately priced for the accommodations we provide. Our rates have not changed in over three years, despite the many improvements we have made. In the time we have opened our home up as a vacation rental, we have received many positive comments both posted on the website and in our guest book. In fact, many guests have returned to our home over the years.

All 9 of us (grandmother, 4 parents, 4 kids 7-10yrs) loved this home. It really had something for everyone. The kids loved all the extra outdoor space, and the foosball and ping pong in the garage. The adults loved the beautiful views and plenty of beds. The owners have really opened their home to you; there were lots of supplies one might not regularly find in rentals. They also have lots of info on how to run everything in the house (tv, wifi, laundry) and what to do around Bend. Of course the best part is the stunning location... so quiet and peaceful, with lovely views and beautiful sagebrush and juniper. We heard the owls, saw the stars, watched the lightning, and roasted marshmallows. No one wanted to leave. Thank you!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I brought up my 3 and 2 year old to Bend for 6 weeks this summer and there is a billboard posted as you head north out of town that says "The hardest part about visiting Bend... is leaving"!. I couldn't agree more, we had such an incredible time. And having this home as our 'home base' was a huge part of these great memories. Its large and equipped with everything so it worked well when it was just the 3 of us, but we had lots of visitors and always there was enough room to accommodate everyone. Perhaps my biggest concern before getting up there was proximity to town and it really is a quick drive to downtown Bend, and yet you get all the space and privacy. We enjoyed all the 'extras' that the owners' provided - they've thought of everything, before you pack ask them if they have it, they just might :-). We loved the deck for morning coffee and evening glass of wine. Also there is another flat concrete area up by the garage that (for kids) is fantastic - endless water play, bubble play, biking in circles on our trikes and scooters (we brought these), chalk drawings, etc. Such a wonderful 'get-away' experience for us, I hope we can pull it off every year. Last quick thought: owner had left a book called '50 great hikes around Bend' or something close to that title, pick it up the first day and use it, it is a great, easy-to-use book and it allowed us to see so much more I think than if we'd have not opened it up. Bend rocks!!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Very nice, private setting. Owner was very informative and helpful. This house has every extra you could think of--from a label maker, to miscellaneous kitchen utensils, usb cords--or could possibly need. Nicely decorated and kept up. We were very happy we chose to stay here and will definitely stay here again next time we are in town!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners.

My husband, myself, and two other couples spent the New Years weekend at this fantastic home just outside of Bend. It was only ~10 min from town and yet it provided absolute quiet and a feeling of solitude. The views from the property are terrific. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the home was larger than what we expected from the description - the bedrooms are very spacious, the beds (at least the one we were in) was very comfortable, and all the linens were in great shape. The kitchen was one of the best-stocked kitchens I've seen thru VRBO rentals. The living room was perfect for watching movies (huge flat screen TV) and just hanging out and talking. One of our friends had a dog with her, and the dog just loved running around in the fenced area outside. The owners are so considerate and attentive to detail - their manual for operating things within the home is exceptionally complete and easy to understand. The only potential problem would be if there was a very heavy snow, it would make getting to the house difficult (if not impossible) without a 4WD vehicle. But luckily, we were able to get a Honda Accord up the hill in 3" snow (after the 2nd try). Great place!!! You'll love it if you stay here.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

We traveled with our daughter, son-in-law and their two kids 1 & 4. The home was more than expected and we felt immediately at home. Because we had been traveling for awhile it was great to be at home and stretch out for awhile. The kids enjoyed the space!!! All of the rest of the house was great with plenty of room for all of to have space of our own. We did some hiking around the house and then did sight seeing around the area. Very convenient to Bend. Thank you for sharing you home with us!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: From our first contact with Jim, we knew our home would be a perfect fit for him and his family for their vacation to Bend. We were delighted to have them stay and, from the sound of it, they had a great time. Our place is perfect for active youngsters (and oldsters!) Room to explore, no worries about traffic, peace and quiet with lovely views. Thank you to all of you! And, thanks, Jim, for naming our deck the "Lookout"! Chris and Louise

About the owner: Chris and I have a big family; five kids, two grandchildren, our dog and lots of stuff. We both enjoy being outdoors and that is one of the special appeals that our vacation home has. Years before we purchased our vacation home, we would camp at the nearby Tumalo State Park with all of the kids, friends, dogs. It was fun spending time with the family and camping at the river and we became very fond of the Bend area and especially Tumalo. Now, luckily, we can call this wonderful place our second home!
Why the Owner Chose Bend:
It all started out that we just wanted to have a 'relaxation' spot. We discovered how comfortable we were with the pace of life and the friendly people here in Central Oregon. There is an endless variety of adventures that are just down the road from us in one direction or another.
Our rural area is priceless and yet, we are just minutes away to all of the conveniences of Bend; like shopping, restaurants, hospitals, and entertainment. For those last minute 'oops, I forgot items', there's a little country store in the town of Tumalo that has an amazing selection of stuff! (they even sell gasoline!)
Our home sits on a ridge with interesting out-croppings and great vistas. We have attempted to make the indoors and the outdoors seamless with our choice of the interior paint colors and the casual decor. There are no neighbors around and the privacy is awesome! Being surrounded by big trees, natural landscaping, and a big blue sky is totally wonderful.
