Privacy and sweeping views will greet you at our vacation home in the Tumalo community of Bend, Oregon. Tumalo is centrally located between all three of the major towns (Bend, Sisters, and Redmond)in Central Oregon. It is a wonderfully rural area. The town of Tumalo has a corner store/gas station, an organic produce/sandwich shop, a few really good restaurants, and is the location of Tumalo State Park where the Deschutes river is easily accessed. (Beach towels + cooler are provided; toys and lunch are on you!) Downtown Bend is less than 10 minutes away going south, Sisters is about 15 minutes heading north.
Our 2-story custom built home defies the description of 'cabin' and yet, it is so cabin-cozy. Hardwood floors lend a 'country' feel to the main floor. The window and door casings are all wood. When you walk through the house, every window has a different view! With two master bedrooms (one on the main floor and one upstairs),And our newly fashioned 'family bedroom', couples travelling together and multiple families can have lots of privacy. You will appreciate the oversized bedrooms. Families with babies = toddlers will like that we have included (NEW) two pack 'n go cribs with sheets and blankets, a high chair, and a booster seat. Oh, and we did add to the toy collection, too. You will find two queen sized air mattresses that you are welcome to use; that is in addition to the beds that are listed in each bedroom.
The large living room, with it's vaulted ceiling and clerestory windows is a great gathering place. That's where you will find comfy sofas and kid-friendly floor pillows. Get together to watch movies or satellite TV on our NEW BIG flat panel TV. The wood stove works great to take the chill off in the winter time. Kids love to use the big round table in here to play board/card games.
The family friendly dining area looks out over the front yard through the tall floor to ceiling windows. Adjacent to the dining area is the spacious, fully equipped kitchen (another great gathering place) with counter space galore! Just outside the dining area, through the sliding glass door is one of two decks; this one has the BBQ and outdoor table; a perfect place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner while enjoying the view. the other deck (Lookout Deck) is a great place to watch the valley or plan your days activities. Don't forget to RELAX! After all, you are on vacation!
You will find there is an abundance of privacy both inside and outside on our 9 acres. It is both invigorating and calming.
Our home is owner managed which means we live here, too! We take pride in getting to know our guests and providing special touches. We love our vacation home and welcome all who are seeking a truly unique getaway. Also, well-behaved dogs of any size are welcome- they love the country air and the wide open spaces!
The Summer season is one of the best times in Central Oregon. There is so much to do! Come and stay in the country, away from the crowds, the traffic and the noise. - Twin/Single Bed (2) : Color coordinating and matching twin + queen upstairs bedroom overlooking the garden. The third bedroom upstairs has been decorated with coordinated bedding and window treatment. The trundle under this bed is made up and easy to access.

Why the Owner Chose Bend
It all started out that we just wanted to have a 'relaxation' spot. We discovered how comfortable we were with the pace of life and the friendly people here in Central Oregon. There is an endless variety of adventures that are just down the road from us in one direction or another.
Our rural area is priceless and yet, we are just minutes away to all of the conveniences of Bend; like shopping, restaurants, hospitals, and entertainment. For those last minute 'oops, I forgot items', there's a little country store in the town of Tumalo that has an amazing selection of stuff! (they even sell gasoline!)
Our home sits on a ridge with interesting out-croppings and great vistas. We have attempted to make the indoors and the outdoors seamless with our choice of the interior paint colors and the casual decor. There are no neighbors around and the privacy is awesome! Being surrounded by big trees, natural landscaping, and a big blue sky is totally wonderful.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We routinely see all sorts of wildlife at our vacation home. There are herds of deer that stroll through the property, red-tailed hawks love to play the wind currents off the ridge and soar over the tree tops. In fact, there are several species of birds around there. Recently I had the pleasure of listening to a pair of hoot owls carry on a conversation with each other! I can't imagine what they have to talk about!!!
Look here for the local Tumalo corner store, Farmer John's organic produce (also sandwiches,wine,beef)a gas station, and El Caporal Mexican Food. They're all within walking distance of each other!
Here you will find (among other things) Target, Home Depot, World Market, Starbucks, a brand new Trader Joes, and an Italian restaurant named Johnny Carinos.
The park is on both sides of the road; one side is for overnight campers, the other side is Day Use. This is where you will have access to the Deschutes River. Very refreshing!
You can see this butte from our front yard, looking south. There are several communications towers at the top of the butte.
This is a great day trip idea to go to Suttle Lake. There are a couple of areas where you can launch a boat if you brought one, or you can rent a boat near the restaurant there.
Costco is located out in this shopping center. There are a bunch of other stores, too.
This is a lovely place right in downtown Bend. The Deschutes River runs through the downtown. Mirror Pond and Drake Park are the place for a lot of celebrations, festivals, etc.
This little town is about 40 minutes away from the house. It's a fun spot; it's where the Crooked River RoundUp (Rodeo) is held every year. Also, Prineville is the Thunder Egg capitol of Central Ore
Amazing place! Lots of rock climbers in this park, the river cut a path through the rock and created a steep gorge. A Must See!

Chris and I have a big family; five kids, two grandchildren, our dog and lots of stuff. We both enjoy being outdoors and that is one of the special appeals that our vacation home has. Years before we purchased our vacation home, we would camp at the nearby Tumalo State Park with all of the kids, friends, dogs. It was fun spending time with the family and camping at the river and we became very fond of the Bend area and especially Tumalo. Now, luckily, we can call this wonderful place our second home!

I brought up my 3 and 2 year old to Bend for 6 weeks this summer and there is a billboard posted as you head north out of town that says "The hardest part about visiting Bend... is leaving"!. I couldn't agree more, we had such an incredible time. And having this home as our 'home base' was a huge part of these great memories. Its large and equipped with everything so it worked well when it was just the 3 of us, but we had lots of visitors and always there was enough room to accommodate everyone. Perhaps my biggest concern before getting up there was proximity to town and it really is a quick drive to downtown Bend, and yet you get all the space and privacy. We enjoyed all the 'extras' that the owners' provided - they've thought of everything, before you pack ask them if they have it, they just might :-). We loved the deck for morning coffee and evening glass of wine. Also there is another flat concrete area up by the garage that (for kids) is fantastic - endless water play, bubble play, biking in circles on our trikes and scooters (we brought these), chalk drawings, etc. Such a wonderful 'get-away' experience for us, I hope we can pull it off every year. Last quick thought: owner had left a book called '50 great hikes around Bend' or something close to that title, pick it up the first day and use it, it is a great, easy-to-use book and it allowed us to see so much more I think than if we'd have not opened it up. Bend rocks!!

Very nice, private setting. Owner was very informative and helpful. This house has every extra you could think of--from a label maker, to miscellaneous kitchen utensils, usb cords--or could possibly need. Nicely decorated and kept up. We were very happy we chose to stay here and will definitely stay here again next time we are in town!

My husband, myself, and two other couples spent the New Years weekend at this fantastic home just outside of Bend. It was only ~10 min from town and yet it provided absolute quiet and a feeling of solitude. The views from the property are terrific. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the home was larger than what we expected from the description - the bedrooms are very spacious, the beds (at least the one we were in) was very comfortable, and all the linens were in great shape. The kitchen was one of the best-stocked kitchens I've seen thru VRBO rentals. The living room was perfect for watching movies (huge flat screen TV) and just hanging out and talking. One of our friends had a dog with her, and the dog just loved running around in the fenced area outside. The owners are so considerate and attentive to detail - their manual for operating things within the home is exceptionally complete and easy to understand. The only potential problem would be if there was a very heavy snow, it would make getting to the house difficult (if not impossible) without a 4WD vehicle. But luckily, we were able to get a Honda Accord up the hill in 3" snow (after the 2nd try). Great place!!! You'll love it if you stay here.

We traveled with our daughter, son-in-law and their two kids 1 & 4. The home was more than expected and we felt immediately at home. Because we had been traveling for awhile it was great to be at home and stretch out for awhile. The kids enjoyed the space!!! All of the rest of the house was great with plenty of room for all of to have space of our own. We did some hiking around the house and then did sight seeing around the area. Very convenient to Bend. Thank you for sharing you home with us!
