A group of 9 women who call themselves the Cailco Cut-Ups go on a quilting Retreat at the Mountain Creek Lodge and I am one of those ladies. We had a wonderful time there, as we always do. Yes, we have been there before, 4 times to be exact. We have looked at other places, but none have the space we need to set up our sewing machines to sew. Mountain Creek Lodge has everything we need. It has beautiful and spacious bedrooms to accomodate all 9 of us, as well as a large living room for all of us to set up our machines and supplies, a large dining room for all of us to sit down at the same table to eat our meals. The kitchen has everything we needed to prepare our meals. We couldn't ask for anything more. The owner, Carol, is so wonderful to work with when setting up our Retreats. The cabin is beautiful inside and the view are beautiful outside. We have never been disappointed. One of the ladies from our group, said to me after our last Retreat, "It feels like a home away from home to me now." I agree!!

The pictures just don't do it justice. Our brief respite to the mountains this past weekend was everything we'd hoped for and more. From the extra comfy linens in the master bedroom to the kitchen with every amenity to the unmatched view from the porch out onto the farm and mountains in the distance, we couldn't have been more happy with our choice. We'd highly recommend this cabin to one and all (and will definitely be back!).

This is my 2nd time to this amazing cabin, but not my last!!! Me and 4 girlfriends enjoyed the home last October. The fall colors and views are amazing and the cows kept us laughing all weekend. The photos DO NOT do the house justice. It is absolutely beautiful, large and comfortable. The beds are great, the kitchen fully loaded, and so well furnished. We returned this spring with the children and grandparents. Again amazing views, and the horses were very entertaining this time. Plenty to do in the area, and we love sitting on the porch and reading and enjoying coffee or cocktails. We watched the sunset and slept in the hammock and 3 different age groups were never bored. NEXT, Im coming in the dead of winter to watch the snow storms roll in. Carol is so accommodating, and I have recommended this home to all my friends.

We were WOWED with the beautiful cabin the minute that we walked through the door. The wonderful smell of pinewood was in the air and the stacked stone wall/fireplace was fantastic. The views were just spectacular and I sat on the porch in the morning with my coffee even though the air was a little chilly. The boys went hiking up the mountain from the lodge and took a lot of great pictures and later we bought them walking sticks with a compass and whistle on them when we went into town. The most amazing thing about Mountain View Lodge is the instant feeling of relaxation, peace and comfort when you arrive. And it only gets better with each day that you are there. I did not want to get out of the comfy bed in the loft, or leave the beautiful cabin to go anywhere. Our dogs loved the fenced in acreage and ran all around the property exploring and liked sunning on the porch deck. We plan to visit in the summer and stay one week (4 days is not long enough). The amenities are plentiful and the owner and all affiliated with Mountain Creek are very nice and willing to accommodate you with just a phone call or email. Downtown Clayton is a must do for the ladies and shopping! Lots of quaint, wonderful shops, bookstore/coffee house, antiques and we had a good lunch at the Universal Joint. The boys went horseback riding at Dillard's Stables and had a great time. I got 75% of a new April Cornell Table Christmas runner and napkins at the antique mall. Eddie bought a Moose Head Co Coo Clock (very unqiue). Visitors make sure that you get your directions printed off before your journey to the mountains because some GPS's will take you a different route. I wound up on an old wagon trail off Mattie McCall Road but a nice family helped me out. Additionally my cell phone signal was gone on Route 76. We had a great time with our family, watching movies, cooking breakfast together and site seeing. The lodge is truly a very special place and so spacious that everyone had their privacy and own baths. Kindest Regards, The Williams Family of Pottstown, PA and Marietta, Georgia

The home itself is lovely, clean and well maintained, and stocked well with everything we needed. We really loved the wrap around porch complete with 6 rocking chairs and a hammock all great for relaxing in. The only thing that would have been nice to have was gas grill. The owner was very helpful in answering any guestions we had and in helping to arrange our trip. This was our first time renting from VRBO so we had alot of questions about everything. That said There are afew things that were not acurate in the description of the property. It states that their are 3 bedrooms + loft. However their are only two bedrooms + loft area. Our group included 6 adults all over 50 so the stairs were a bit of an issue after we got there and saw only the two bedrooms downstairs. Also the discription of the farm with the pictures of the cows being next to the house was really one of the reasons we rented this property. My husband and his brother, and sister who were their with us were very excited about being able to walk around and enjoy the farm, cows, and 25 acre property. So we were all alittle surprised to not see any animals, but lots a chain link fence and barbwire which kept us from being able to explore the area like we were hoping to do. Also I would recommend that you ask renters that bring pets to the property to pick up the animals poo or perhaps have a designated area for them to use. I bring this up only because there was a large amount in different areas right next to the driveway which we found accidentally afew times.
Owner response:We're glad the lodge was found to be lovely, clean, well maintained & well stocked. It has 3 bedrooms, one of which is a loft that sleeps 9 & has a private bathroom. The cows occasionally graze in the valley below our farm. The farmer who uses our pastures says he would have been glad to relocate the cows had he known they were missed. A phone call will fix anything, including poo. :) Happy guests are our #1 concern.

Rarely does a vacation rental that looks so great in the online photos and description live up to that advance billing. In the case of Mountain Creek Lodge, every detail was as nice or even nicer than what the lisitng suggests. The view was terrific, and the large covered porch was a great place to read or just contemplate nature. The kitchen was well equipped, and we made good use of it duting our week's stay. The gorgeous woods and the interior decor were stunning, and each of the many wall switches was thoughtfully labeled as to what it contriols, which helped a lot. In addition to the screened porch doors letting in the fresh air, there is even a remote control option to open the windows high up above the living area. Our dogs were ecstatic, as the entire property is fenced and they were able to explore without us worrying about them. The lodge is ideally situated for day trip visits to Hiawassee, Franklin or Highlands. But it was so comfortable and obviously well-cared for that even when rain and fog prevented us from leaving one day, we were totally content. Thanks, Carol. We really love your lodge.

What a wonderful place! We walked in and were delightfully surprised with our accommodations. Our grandchildren enjoyed the loft, and we all loved the kitchen. We were able to have a toasty fire each night, and the views were spectacular. We always felt safe and secure in this perfect piece of heaven! Oh, the porch was the icing on the cake! The Campbells

What a luxurious, comfortable, beautifully furnished home!! Its nicer and bigger then the photos show. The views are spectacular, and the cows kept us laughing all weekend. There were 5 of us, coming form all over Georgia and North Carolina, so the location is easy to get to via car, but very secluded once up the mountain. We had plenty of room, plenty to do, cooked, ate and enjoyed the fall colors. A gas grill would be nice, but the large fully equipped kitchen allowed us to prepare food together, and enjoy the views while we dined. So many stars and what a sunrise!!! The beds are very comfortable, the house is clean, and the working office space came in handy. We zip lined and enjoyed all the fall festivals in the area. We will be back.

Mountain Creek Lodge is amazing. If you need a much needed break from LIFE....This is the place for you. If you need to release some of LIFE's frustrations, you must go to Southeastern Expeditions for the HIGH adventure whitewater rafting. We planned this trip specifically for a couples' getaway and for whitewater rafting. We were all very pleased w/ the hospitality of both, the lodge and the rafting co. We would definitely plan another trip to the lodge, maybe next time the kids will be invited :=) Great for kids and adults !!!!

This home was wonderful - small group of friends stayed here for a weekend in the summer and we had everything we needed. Plenty of space, lots of open area, and amazing views. The kitchen was wonderful and had everything we needed to some home-cooked. gourmet meals. Since it was the dead of summer, it was very hot/humid out but the house stayed cool and comfortable. I imagine it would be ideal in the Fall with the trees changing!! My only suggestion would be to add a gas grill or provide charcoal. Yet with Wal-Mart being such a short drive away, it took 20 minutes to fix that problem... so minimal concern.

The Mountain Creek Lodge is the perfect getaway! I rented this cabin with my wife to escape the commotion of the big city and we were transported to a different world. The porch overlooks a pastoral scene with cows roaming the pasture, and watching the sunset pass through the mountains was truly a breathtaking experience. The inside of the cabin is beautifully furnished, and the fireplace got plenty of use during our stay. The fully stocked kitchen really came in handy, but all the comforts of town are less than 5 minutes away. More to the point, one thing that truly sets this mountain lodge apart from others I've stayed at is the fact that, even though you're on top of a mountain enjoying the peace and quiet, all the luxuries of town are remarkably close. Clayton, Georgia (the town) also has an old-timey feel that is more relaxed that any town I've visited before. The people are friendly and extremely welcoming, and the food is an absolute treat. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who wanted to escape the commotion of city life and be transported to a destination that is relaxing, quiet, and truly the perfect getaway.

We made this trip on short notice, a four day weekend. Our dealings with the owner were very professional and cordial. The house is an outstanding property, very open and with comfortable furniture. It is in a very private and quiet location, but only a few minutes from town in Clayton. The internet service is very fast, faster than our home service. It was cool while we were there, and we greatly enjoyed the wood-burning fireplace. Our deposit was returned 4 days after our departure, unusually quick. We were able to contact the renter with ease by e-mail with any questions or concerns.

This was my second trip to Mountain Creek Lodge with a group of seven other women for a leadership retreat. It is the perfect location for a group of that size, sleeping everyone comfortably, with plenty of space for activities, and a large table for meetings and meals. The atmosphere is wonderful and the views are inspiring. With so many big windows, even long work days felt refreshing. The large kitchen island was great for prepping and serving meals, and the casual seating area by the fireplace gave everyone a comfortable place to relax at the end of the day. Working out the details with the homeowner was a pleasure. I highly recommend this lodge and look forward to returning again in the future.

This mountain rental was everything the photos and description portrayed! It is perfect if you are wanting to relax and feel secluded, but the property is just minutes away from Clayton's stores, restaurants, and activites such as snow tubing and ice skating. The cabin is beautiful, clean, open and has an amazing view, not to mention the laid back cows and handsome bull that greet you at the entrance. We loved everything about it. It was the perfect place for our family to spend the New Year!

This property is truly remarkable. Nestled on the top of a mountain, it offers majestic views of the surrounding area and mountains. It is extremely private and serene, yet safe and completely fenced in. There is a barn with several friendly cows, which adds to the charm. The cabin is in impeccable condition and very tastefully decorated. It is evident that the owners paid great attention to every little detail. We visited in the fall and the foliage was absolutely amazing. There are numerous tourist attractions nearby. We would highly recommend this property and we already miss it.

Our quilting group spent 3 wonderful nights in October at the Mountain Creek Lodge and had the BEST time. It has a listing that says it is a "cabin'', but it is so much more than that. The spacious open floor plan was not only beautifully decorated, but was inviting and comfortable. It allowed all of us to be together as we sat and sewed on our projects. We were able to set up our sewing machines and other sewing supplies and still had enough room to move around without feeling cramped. The accomodations allowed us to feel relaxed and comfortable. This was truly a wonderful get away for us and we will definetly go back again and again for future quilting retreats. The listing photos were exactly what the rooms look like and everything was clean and well kept. Everything we needed was there for us to use. Anyone who stays here will not be disappointed!!!

Our family spent 5 nights at Mountain Creek Lodge this July. The photos are exactly what you see. We brought my mother-in-law and she has Alzheimers and she kept saying, "better take lots of pictures or we will never believe we were really here". The place was immaculent. It was nice having 2 gates that were key pad entrance as it felt very safe. The owner provided us with multiple local numbers in case there was anything we needed. Many of us, there were 11 of us, hiked around the mountain but everyday we enjoyed places around the Clayton. We went horseback riding at The Dillard House, went to Cherokee NC, went white water rafting, Tallulah Gorge and black rock. The location was perfect for all these activities. Shopping was very close but most importantly the kitchen was roomy and made cooking easy. We loved the open floor plan which allowed all of us to be together. We frequented the front porch and rocking chairs. I would definetly love to come back in January, February or March as I spoke to Carol about. I would recommend this to anyone of any age. The furniture and beds were very comfy. Thank you for providing us with this much needed vacation home. Can't wait to come back!

My husband and I returned recently with our little dog, Katie, from Mtn. Ck. Lodge. This home is beautiful and extremely clean. Already, I miss the openness and spaciousness of this home...it cracks me up they refer to this as a "cabin"! It's 3,000+ sf! The owner is very committed to taking care of it. She provides the most wonderful towels! Usually, VRBOs have thin towels...not Carol. These are quality like you expect. The beds and furniture are not rental quality--they are quality that you'd buy for your own home. The privacy and quiet solitude were just what we needed. This property sits on approx. 25 acres well off the main highway. You hear NO road noise, no airplanes, and no neighbors! It's a quirky and charming property--formerly a petting zoo. We LOVED the cows and all the blackberry bushes. We stayed just before peak of the blackberries--but I managed to eat handfuls anyway! Next summer, I want to be there when I can get enough for a pie! We felt extremely secure because the house is behind TWO locked gates! While there don't miss: Black Rock State Park (take your dog) and Paoletti's in Highlands for dinner. One bit of warning: if you hear thunder--run for cover. While we were there, we were enjoying wine on the huge verandah. The sun was shining. A storm was brewing to our west and we said "well this will be neat--the echo of thunder in the mtns." Moments later with the sun high above, lightning struck Carol's property not 100 yards away! I reported this to Carol and learned lightning struck the next door neighbor's house and burned it to the ground...take the lightning seriously on Tut's Mountain! Please respect and treat this place as you would your own; not everyone accepts pets and it means a lot to have "man's best friend" along. We can't wait to return...

My sister, 3 friends and myself were so happy when we arrived at the beautiful house. We had been waiting for months for our girls-weekend. The weather was rainy, but so beautiful with the fog over the mountains. There was plenty of room, and the house just had wonderful energy. We did so much in three very short days. There is plenty of exploring to do and great places to eat. Carol, thank you and we will return.. Say hi to the cows.

My husband and I spent the first week of March 2010 at MCL. Would you believe we had about six inches of snow? It was great for such South Georgia "flatlanders" as we! Since there had been notice of a possible snowfall, we'd laid in a supply of food and drink from Ingles Grocery in Clayton--couldn't have been cozier or better fed during our snowbound thirty-six hours. The heat worked well, and it didn't take long to warm up after our numerous excursions outside for snowball fights and (trying) to walk in "deep" snow. The Rabun County road crews were quick to salt the main roads, so there wasn't a problem getting off the mountain and around the area after the one day of being snowed in. We enjoyed the spaciousness of the lodge and the thoughtfully chosen furnishings, including the comfortable bed and couches. While we had several delicious meals in Clayton, we also enjoyed being able to do our own cooking; we had what we needed to feel quite at home. We spent a lot of time simply taking in the ever-changing views in front of the lodge; with so few other houses visible, we felt as if we actually might be "King of the Mountain." We did, however, do a bit of driving around--on many local roads (well-maintained, mostly), over a very scenic US 76 to Hiawassee and Young Harris, GA, and up into North Carolina to visit the John C. Campbell Folk School (among other places). Practically any road we took has beautiful vistas or engaging little areas to stop and enjoy. It was very nice that the traffic on these roads was sparse at that time of the year; we do not like to be rushed along when we're playing tourist. This was our first booking of accommodations through an online service like HomeAway, and we were a bit anxious about what we might be getting into. We could not be more pleased with our experience and are hoping to stay at MCL again. Carol was absolutely great about communicating with us, both before and during our stay, and we are sure you would enjoy working with her and staying at the Lewises' HomeAway, too!

The cows were a big hit and the barns were thoroughly explored. Relaxing in the hammock was a great way to start and end each lovely day. If you ever need any farm hands, let us know :). Thank you for the wonderful experience from the Barker family- Tom, Jackie, Lexie (11) , Tommy (9), Jackson (7) , Lainie (5) , and our old dog, Mickey

This cabin is unbelievably awesome! We had the privilege of staying at Mountain Creek for several days in late October 2009 and this cabin far exceeded our expectations. Not only is it a first class accommodation, but it offers a truly magnificent view of the mountains, is immaculately clean, offers comfortable leather den furniture, and the list goes on and on. We had young grandchildren with us, and the open floor plan made it a big plus for the children to play. I loved the granite countertops in the kitchen and the wood flooring throughout. I would recommend this cabin to anyone, and we plan to return for another visit. Thank you, Carol, for being so gracious and attentive to all details!

Just returned home from 7 days in your wonderful lodge. The place is just perfect with everything we needed to enjoy our vacation. We took six horses with us and what a view to see them grazing in the pasture below the porch with the mountains behind them. It was a wonderful week with lots of trail riding and relaxing at the lodge. Thank you Carol for everything. We will be back soon.

We just gor home from a week in "heaven". The lodge is beautiful and so comfortable. We had everything we needed to enjoy our vacation. Our 6 horses joined us and enjoyed the pastures below the deck. What a view to look out on the pastures full of horses and the mountain view behind. We enjoyed lots of good trail riding in the area, and after a long day came back to the comfort of the lodge. Carol you have been a pleasure to deal with and we will be back very soon!!!!

Our family has been making the trip up to the Clayton/Dillard area for more than 30 years. 3 times the past 9 months alone. From all the other places we have stayed yours was by far the best. Incredible spacious home, Quality in every detail, huge deck with incredible views, close proximity to everything we love about the mountains, plenty of space for safely parking and turning around. Having 20+ acres all fenced and gated we allowed the 3 kids to run around the property with grandpa birdwatching(over 15 variety) and they loved picking the wild blackberries. To our surprise the children all week chose to sit out every late afternoon and watch the cows in the lower pasture rather than watching tv or video games. We will be recommending this slice of heaven on earth to all our friends and will definitely be back.

Mountain Creek Lodge is a great place to stay. We enjoyed every minute of it, especially the porch and rocking chairs. The view from the porch is outstanding. This cabin is furnished so well. Everything we needed was there. We went white water rafting and loved it. I would recommend Mountain Creek Lodge to anyone.

I don't believe there is enough space to tell you how enjoyable our vacation week at this lodge was. It is everything the owners say it is and more. Scott & Carol Lewis will do anything possible to add to your stay. The lodge is great for a hide-a-way or as a convenient location to all places of North Georgia. One family or more will find this a great comfortable alternative to hotels, time-shares, or any other accomodations. Please don't let the word out. I want to reserve again next year. Make your reservation early before it is taken.

The house is beautiful, outfitted with many comforts, and in a lovely spot. Watching the sun rise over the mountains and feeling spring arrive in Appalachia were wonderful. We went from warm weather to snow flurries, and back to warm weather. The trees were leafing out, birds of all kinds were singing, and barn swallows were zipping around. We even spotted a woodchuck or beaver on the property. A highlight was waking one morning to cows mooing, announcing the arrival of a newborn calf. Pure white and walking unsteadily on wobbly legs, Mom was busy licking the newborn. It was quite a sight to see as the sun came over the mountains!

This was our second vacation at this wonderful cabin. We like to do outdoor activities, including hiking, and Rabun County offers many excellent outdoor activities. The cabin offers excellent views and lots of privacy, yet it is located just outside of Clayton. If you stay at the cabin, please be sure to take the hike up the paved road to the top of Tut's Mountain where you will gain a view of three states and many mountains. We have stayed in many cabins in North Georgia, but this one is our favorite. P.S. - There are several ways to get to the cabin. If you prefer to stay on pavement simply ask the owners for those directions.

My family and I loved Mountain Creek Lodge and plan to vacation there again in the summer. The view is spectacular & the cabin has better amenities than home: down quilts & duvets, luxurious bedding, plush towels, fully stocked kitchen, plenty of firewood for the fireplace, games, DVDs, even comic books for kids. Forget about the interior things to do though – the farm is fun to explore with its traditional barns, one of which has a loft, the cows, an old bear den (no bears-don’t worry), hiking & horseback riding trails, the creek, covered bridges in the valley, breathtaking view of several states just a short hike above the cabin. Plus, the cabin is very clean. Do not hesitate to book this place. It’s a deal. ENJOY!!

I've never seen a more beautiful view of colorful autumn leaves than from the rocking chair porch of Mountain Creek Lodge. I grew up in the Clayton area and rented the cabin for a family reunion after hearing about all the renovations that took place there this year. It has been significantly enlarged & improved by a quality builder. The 2-story, floor to ceiling windows overlooking the fabulous mountain view are the first thing you see when you walk in, followed by the gorgeous rock wall fireplace with a log beam mantle. They must have used an interior decorator because the furnishings and fixtures are unique and tasteful. The bedding is luxurious - I especially like the tempurpedic mattress toppers & fluffy comforters. The cabin is well stocked with supplies, firewood & little amenities. The computer is set up for guests or you can use your wireless laptop. The owners have provided games, toys, movies and books for kids & adults. There is a handicap ramp in the carport which was helpful for grandma. From the main porch you can see the barns, cows, peacocks and miles of mountain ridges. We had a great time!

Just to let you know how wonderful your cabin and property is. My family had a wonderful time, enjoying the view and just relaxing. The two men said it was the most relaxing time they have had in 10 years. The girls and I just enjoyed being together and watching the kids have fun. The kids really thought they were mountain people hiking and exploring. Once again we would love to return sometime.. just have to work it out with our schedule. The cabin was spacious, nice big bathrooms, wonderful beds and a well stocked kitchen. The two washers and dryers allowed us to come home with clean clothes after a week. WONDERFUL! The view is like a dream... like all you see in posters and ads .. the house is just perfect in everyway. Will be back again for another visit.. No need to look elsewhere.

Mountain Creek Lodge was gorgeous!! It was so nice going to a rental cabin and getting just what you asked for. We were staying up there for a friend's wedding at Chota Falls. In all honesty, we wished we didn't have the wedding because we wanted to hang around the cabin the entire time. It had all the amenities you could possible need, I mean it even had bodywash. We didn't have to use the AC b/c the night air was cool and crisp. We just left our windows open. The view was unbelievable, mountains everywhere. There were 3 couples, all the ladies were in the wedding party and all of our husbands got to hang out at the cabin Saturday and watch football, grill burgers, and just relax. We had the best time and I would go back in a heartbeat. There was so much privacy--thank you!

Wow, what a view! This beautiful cabin has some of the best long range mountain views that we have seen from a front porch! The setting is very peaceful, private, and perfect for relaxing on the porch in one of the big rocking chairs. The cabin is rustic, yet modern and very comfortable and is well-stocked with plenty of fine towels, linens, and toiletries. The DVD, CD and game collection is a nice added touch for a night of family fun while relaxing and cooking some steaks on the grill. This is a perfect spot to get away from it all and just relax! It is also conveniently located to a lot of attractions if you do feel like coming down off the mountain and exploring the surrounding areas of Georgia and North Carolina. This was one of our most relaxing vacations, and we can't wait to come back!
