Why the Owner Chose Rockport
I became familiar with Rockport in 1970 and visited the beaches every year. This quaint New England town was a welcome relief from my hectic life in the city. One day in November of 2007 my son told me there was a house for sale in Rockport. He knew I loved the town and convinced me to take a ride with him. As we drove up to this cape house built in 1850 that needed a tremendous amout of TLC I thought this was a waste of time. We then pulled into the driveway and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. I looked at my son and said, "We need to buy this house for the view." By June of 2008 the back of the house was torn off and replaced and the interior was completely renovated. Now as I sit on the deck and watch the sailboats go by I feel like I am living a dream come true.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Rockport is my escape. I work and live just outside of Boston. When I arrive in Rockport I instantly feel a sense of peace. I awake to a beautiful sunrise and sounds of nature. I await the day that I can call Rockport my home.

Your place was perfect for our family of four. we expored Cape Ann easily from this location. Your suggestion to drive and keep driving past the Lobster Pool was one of our favorite trips and special memory of our vacation.

My sisters and I stayed here for a long weekend and loved it. We were close to everything and enjoyed visiting the parks and beaches. The apartment was full of light and very clean and we loved the view of the ocean. Sheila was so welcoming and very accommodating. I would recommend this listing to anyone wanting to visit this area. We had no problems with noise and slept well.

The property is situated on a busy main road. It is very noisy as a result and the owner on greeting us said that the 2 rooms at the road side were noisy. Unfortunately, so is the only double room at the side. We were woken by traffic noise by 06.00. First impressions are critical. The view we got on arrival was of a rusty old dump truck full of garbage. It belonged to the person who stayed in the first floor of the building the whole time we were there. When I complained to the owner, she said he could park it at the side, but he never did. The steps to the door overlook an area of weeds, garbage and old building materials. That is also the side where the sitting area is, so that is what you see. The owner described it as a "work in progress", but I do not expect that for a property being marketed. The interior does not appear fully finished; aircon units are ducktaped to window frames, a smoke sensor is held together by rubber bands and one wall light switch was protruding from the wall. There should be more bedroom furniture; the main bedroom has no bedside tables or reading lamps. I mentioned that to the owner, but she claimed not to understand. All in all, not what we expected. We were so disappointed that we left after 3 days, despite paying for 7.
Owner response:I need only to say that I have been renting this home to vacationers since 2008 and have never received a negative review. The renter came to me the day after his arrival and told me that he and his wife would be moving on to Cape Cod and that they had seen all that they wanted to see in Rockport and Gloucester. He also gave me a list of things he did not like about the house. I told the renter I was sorry he was disappointed. He then asked me for his security deposit which I returned in cash. They stayed two more nights but left me a two page letter inferring that I was dishonest, disrespectful and cheap. Never has anyone ever insulted me is such a manner. Every other renter has thanked for providing such a comfortable home and for my hospitality. I realize now that I cannot please everyone. I will continue to rent the house as it gives me the opportunity to meet nice people from the country and the world.

We have been meaning to write a review since returning from our trip in late August. As we were preparing this review, we were really surprised with the previous review posted on here… even wondering if they somehow got the location/rental wrong. We had an absolutely enjoyable time and didn’t want to leave! The pictures on the website do not do justice to just how beautiful it is! We woke up every morning to a gorgeous sunrise over the ocean. The interior of the space is kept extremely clean, and is decorated with simple, nautical items, keeping it modern and beachy, without cluttering the space. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was talking about, because we found the views of the ocean beautiful and never saw trash or "a dump". In fact, the owner keeps the trash cans and materials in the shed very neat and clean. We also never encountered a “rusty old dump truck” – there was always plenty of parking. I do remember a pick-up truck parked in the back driveway, but there was nothing bothersome about that. The owner had been a great help from the moment we contacted her. She was warm, friendly and willing to answer any questions we had via email/phone. Once we arrived, she greeted us and gave us a tour and lots of tips about getting the most out of our vacation. This rental had everything we wanted: view of the water, air conditioning (that worked great!), modern/clean living spaces, and location. I do agree that the road can be a little noisy, but this didn’t really bother us or keep us up. That is just part of the great location. I would never mind that small detail, if it means you have a great view with easy access to town. For the most part, this rental was comfortable, peaceful, and convenient. We would definitely return again, and recommend this rental for people who enjoy a laid-back, simple and beautiful vacation.
Owner response:I remember this family of four quite well. They arrived with smiles and excited to begin their vacation. Upon entering the unit they were more than pleased and were amazed at the beautiful view from the living area. When their vacation was over they said they loved the house and would most likely come back again.
