Cozy House Close to Civic Center, Downtown and Attractions

I recently purchased this property and had fun decorating it and supplying it with all the amenities for your stay. It has a great kitchen equipped to prepare full meals or throw together a quick snack. It is fully stocked with all the staples to make your meal preparation quick and easy. There are complete laundry facilities. It possesses a fenced shady yard perfect for relaxing at the end of your day of touring. The house is in a quiet safe neighborhood. (My house is just around the corner.)
The house is two blocks from the Civic Center, making it extremely convenient to attend events there. It is walking distance to historic downtown where you can enjoy shopping, dining, and nightlife entertainment. Along the way you will find the walking and bike path that run along side of Rapid Creek, perfect for an early morning run or evening stroll.
A quick drive will take you to the Black Hills where you can visit Mount Rushmore, Custer Park, Crazy Horse and the quaint little towns such as Deadwood, Sturgis, Hill City and Keystone. In the other direction, is Wall Drug and the Bad Lands. Another great day trip is Devil's Tower. The house is in a perfect location with easy access to the major roads and highways to take you to your destination.

We were welcomed personally by the property owner and she gave us a tour. The house was clean and the pictures accurately reflect the rentals appearance and amenities. It was extremely hot and the room air conditioner in the living room was not even on when we got there. It was very hot and we were unable to cool the place down. It was very uncomfortable sleeping the first night. The next day the owner brought another window air conditioner, but due to the size of the windows in the bedroom, it had to go in the dining area. It helped to bring the humidity down some, but the 2 bedrooms remained quite warm. 2 fans were provided and we had brought one and purchased another. Without the fans, it would've been impossible to sleep. Also due to the heat, we felt we were unable to cook as many meals as we had originally planned. We didn't want to make it any hotter inside. The owner was very friendly and did try to make things better for us. We feel it would be a huge plus to install central ac in the house. When you are out doing things all day, you expect to be able to come back to a nice cool place to rest. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for us. We liked the house and the location was good. Having a washer and dryer was a definite plus. We would recommend this property, but not during hot weather unless the AC issue gets resolved.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: I am so sorry the guests were "miserable" with the heat. I do apologize that I had not turned on the AC before their arrival, and had planned to do so at noon, although they arrived prior to that. I did not think it a priority, as I was not even running my own air conditioning, and was quite comfortable. I ran mine very little while they were here. (maybe a couple of hours a day) It was somewhat warn during their stay, and the humidity was higher than usual, but I didn't feel it was unbearable. In fact, I spent the time they were here at my newly acquired house painting. That house has absolutely no AC. Although I was running up and down stairs, and very physically active, I did break a sweat, but was not "miserable". When I went to clean after they checked out, I turned off the air conditioners, and my central heat unit they had turned on, opened the front and back doors and worked in comfort. These guests must live in a much cooler climate to be as effected by the heat as they were. The guests that checked in the same day these people checked out said absolutely nothing about the house being hot.

We found the house to be beautify decorated and quite comfortable. There is a nice yard for the kids. The owner provided all the necessities for our stay, including things like salt, pepper, oil, spices and most importantly to me coffee. She lives just a few houses down, which made it convent for check-in and questions. There is easy access to all the tourist sites. Staying there made for an easy and carefree vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: I appreciate the lovely review. My goal for both of my houses is to give my guests a good experience of the Black Hills, to provide accommodations that will enhance their vacation. I am so pleased that they enjoyed their stay.

We stayed at this bungalow and loved the central location to downtown. You can easily walk or bike anywhere in the city. The yard was fully fenced, great for kids, and beautifully maintained. It had a nice seating area on the patio that was shaded in the evenings. It is an older bungalow and as such it has a few interesting but livable quirks like step stairs to the laundry room. The air conditioner is a window unit in the living room. I liked the layout of the home and the kitchen. However, most of the kitchen supplies are dollar store quality. The bedrooms are small and each has a queen bed, however both beds, pillows, sheets, mattress covers are in need of replacing and are not great. Especially bring your own pillows. The sleeper sofa, used for my two small children was terrible. There is an air mattress you can use instead. There is a generous amount of towels in the bathroom. The DVD player did not work properly and went fuzzy for any scenes that had white colors. It is decorated with a European look. The owner was good to work with. It made a nice home base to explore rapid city and mount rushmore.Recommended for: Age 55+.

About the owner: People ask me 'why did you move to South Dakota?' I tell them that it's because I love it here. (I'm a life time resident of California) After renovating and decorating my vacation rental, I decided to move on to bigger things. Now most of my time is consumed with the renovating of a house built in 1917. It's my passion to bring it back to it's former glory. My warning to you would be travelers to this area is, 'be careful, you might just decide to stay'
Why the Owner Chose Rapid City:
I reluctantly agreed to visit a friend in Rapid City. After a long drive in the Black Hills in her convertible, I decided to buy a vacation house here. After spending some time here, I decided to sell my home in California. I then bought a larger house in which I'm renovating I recently purchased the house around the corner as an investment property in which I'm making available to you for your vacation.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This house is located two blocks from the Civic Center. It's walking distance to Downtown with the unique shopping, restaurants and night life. The central location is great with easy access to the roads that will take you to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer Park, the Bad Lands and beyond.
