INTERIOR
Sheltered by live oaks and redwood trees with private and sunny vistas, Cherry Ridge artfully blends a comfortable, contemporary design with the natural landscape in this 3+ bedroom residence and guest house.
The stucco and stone exterior brings in the colors and textures of the forest and fields to create a visually distinctive look, and multiple levels of decks and terraces invite easy interaction with the environment and the ideal setting for entertaining. The home and guest quarters face the pool and deck which features an outdoor grilling and dining area and a two-story stone outdoor fireplace.
With a floor plan that utilizes varying levels from room to room, and soft arches to frame the transitions, the home’s main public areas are connected, yet retain their individuality. Straw-colored wood floors and ceilings are offset with muted, creamy walls and layered, hand-hewn stones that were used to fashion the massive fireplace in the living room. The rugged wall of stone provides a natural center for the living area, furnished with a sophisticated assemblage of contemporary pieces and Asian antique accents. The curved wrought-iron balcony overlooks the garden and hot tub terrace.
The formal dining room draws in the sunlight from view windows that look out to cypress trees and lavender fields on one side and the terrace and hillside on the other, and opens up to the kitchen through low dividing walls. Stone tiled floors, fossilized granite counters and rich wood cabinetry make the kitchen a visual delight, and the industrial countertop stove, double ovens and prep areas offer amateur or professional chefs a ideal place to whisk up culinary treats.
Adjoining the kitchen is a casual dining room and counter seating. An entertainment and conversation area with a fireplace and TV provides a cozy space to read, play games or watch your favorite show. The lower floor is laid out on two levels. The master suite is done in soft taupe and the queen bed faces a magnificent floor to ceiling wood and tile fireplace with raised hearth. Glass doors offer out to a private flagstone terrace and the hot tub. The bath has a sand-toned granite counter with two sinks, a large jetted tub and a separate shower done in pale yellow subway tile. A second bedroom with queen bed has sliding doors to a patio and the lavender garden and the third bedroom has windows to the interior courtyard. Both bedrooms share a large bath, which has a double sink vanity and tiled shower.
The pool house is a stylish design that incorporates the alfresco lifestyle of wine country and the feel of a lodge with its cathedral ceiling, wood wainscoting, stone floors and wide windows. The stunning two-story stone fireplace is double-sided, opening to the terrace and pool and the interior of the house. Arched doorways on either side create a leisurely flow for guests to mix and socialize; lounging on the terrace or joining friends in the comfortable leather chairs and couch in front of the fire. A room-length window seat conceals twin beds, and a queen-size Murphy bed appears from the wall at the touch of a hand. A kitchenette contains a generous counter area with a sink and two dishwashers and pass-through windows to the outdoor grilling station and there are two separate full bathrooms, each with vanity, toilet and shower and beadboard trim.
