La Joya Huanacaxtle Condominiums is a great place to stay if you're wanting to see some of the traditional old Mexico while being close to the modern tourist activities. Only 20 miles from Puerto Vallarta with all the bars, restaurants, clubs, cruise ships, shopping and other great tourist activities. The condo is located near the town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. When the early Mexican settlers were looking for a place to homestead they came upon a Huanacaxtle Tree in the shape of a cross. They felt this a good sign and settled there. Today there is a large cross of Huanaxtle wood in the center of the small plaza near the entrance to the village to commemorate the original cross.
You won't need to rent a car as most everything is within a 5 to 15 minute walk from the condo. Grocery stores, quick marts, a fish market, many restaurants and a local Doctor. There's live music at many of the restaurants and there are all types of restaurants here. From small street tacos to fine dining. If you want a slightly larger venue, there's the town of Bucerious which is only a 5 minute bus ride away. You can catch the bus at the top of the road and it only costs about $8 pesos, or 75 cents. You can't get lost. There is only one main road so if you catch the bus going East it's the right bus. Getting back is just as easy. If you want a cab, you can get one to take you there for less than $100 pesos, that's about $8.00 US.
The complex is just a short two minute walk to the beach. It's a nice beach that's kid friendly since it sits beside the marina breakwater and the waves are small and the water is calm. Or you can walk to the fish market (try to get there before 11:00 am) since the fishermen come back in the earlier part of the day to clean their catch and sell to the locals before they are sent into Puerto Vallarta to be served at the restaurants for lunch and dinner. You can stroll the 'malecon' or sea walk that goes around the marina. You'll see boats anchored in the bay and others tied up in the marina. Hungry or thirsty? Stop by the La Cruz Yacht Club restaurant and have a cold drink or maybe lunch or dinner.
This is the place to go if you're looking for a truly relaxing vacation. No big hustle and bustle here. It's a nice slow pace for unwinding and recharging. Our unit is on the ground floor so it's great for Mom and the kids. Mom can sit in the shade of the terrace and supervise the kids in the pool only about 25 feet away. No elevator to go to, simply walk out to the pool. We chose this unit because it was close to the pool.
The building is completely walled in with 24/7 security. Secure parking underneath the building and there are two elevators. The kids can't get into the street without going out the main entrance which has a security guard standing watch. We've also provided a guest information book with all of the important information. Hospitals, doctors, dentist and of course the sights and activities along with information about restaurants and beaches.

About the owner: We're almost retired and can't wait to get away from the Canadian drizzle and grey of winter. Our home is in the Pacific Northwest and we don't get a lot of sun. We love being in a small village that is near the water and the beach. Some of our favorite activities are walking the beaches, enjoying the sunsets and people watching. Love going to the pool and connect with other owners and guests.
Why the Owner Chose La Cruz de Huanacaxtle:
It's a great location on the Riviera Nayarit. La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is located just 20 minutes North of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport and at the beginning of the new Riviera Nayarit. This will be developed by the Mexican government like the Riviera Maya was on the Eastern shore near Cancun. This area allows quick access to major shopping, all within a 30 minute drive and also the quaint charm of a sleepy little Mexican fishing village. In the morning you can buy fresh caught fish, shrimp, lobster and other seafood only a 15 minute walk down to the brand new marina and the new co-op fish market. Then for lunch you can walk into town another 15 minute stroll from the condo and enjoy all types of local shopping and dining. There are bakeries, butchers, tortilla factories, small grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants and even a Medico (A General Practitioner MD). Then if you don't feel like cooking the morning's fresh catch, you can go to many nice restaurants. There are about as many Gringo places as there are Mexican places and most of them are very good. Being only a block from the beach and 15 minutes to the new marina you can enjoy the sun, sand and surf while kicking back a nice cool one while walking in the surf with your bare feet.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
This is a ground floor unit that's only a few feet from the pool. No need make that elevator journey with an armful of your stuff or your favorite beverage. Simply walk off the terrace and jump into the pool and when you're ready, just walk back to your private terrace, take a seat at the table or use one of the two lounge chairs or have some refreshments while sitting in the shade. It's very close to Puerto Vallarta without being in the middle of a tourist area. If you want to enjoy some tourististy things, try taking the local bus into PV, it's cheap and a real, mexican experience. Shop, eat, walk, it's all there. Then when you're ready to come home, hop in a cab, especially if the Margarietas were too good, or be as the loacals and take the bus back. If you're into relaxing while on vacation, then this is the place. It's close to everything you'll need to enjoy your stay. Most activities are within a 15 to 20 minute flat walk. You won't need a car to get around and if you want to go into the next town a local bus will take you there for about 7 to 10 pesos. The kitchen has a nice selection of cooking utensils, pots and pans are heavy duty, no cheap thin cookware here. Nice set of cutlery and flatware. All granite and marble counters throughout. Shaw satellite television( cbc, tsn hockey !) in the LR and both bedrooms. The LR sports a 42' plasma while the bedrooms have 32' LCD with DVD players, there's even an iPod dock and a surround system in the LR. We have decorated it with Mexican art. Much of it is original and one of a kind. Two lounge chairs and a stone top table with six wicker chairs. Ceiling fans are in all the rooms and there are air conditioners throughout.
