This wine country vacation compound was built by the famous San Francisco Gumps family in the early 1950’s. It is a paradise for children and adults alike.
Set atop a 5 acres on a small hill, Lavender Hill’s three pavilions are designed for indoor/outdoor living with huge doors and windows that open to the sunlight and out to the property’s expansive views over grass and woods.
Amenities include a solar-heated pool is completely surrounded by a large lawn, the huge hot tub that can easily fit a dozen people, expansive terrace, bocce court, lavender garden and views.
The Main building includes a living room with a 12.5-foot-high ceiling, picture windows looking out towards the pool and inviting furniture and tall bookshelves which make it a natural gathering place. Three sides of the kitchen (which boasts its original 10-foot-high cabinetry) are mostly glass. A long 12-seat table, flanked by a bar housed in an antique cabinet, makes the kitchen a perfect place on a wintry day to huddle cozily over food and wine.
The pool house has a four-bed Bunkroom – wonderful kids’ quarters. The adjoining Red Room has its own bath and a separate exit to a patio whose reflecting pool is filled with reeds, water lilies and lovelorn frogs. The Pool House’s master bedroom boasts a queen bed, bath and kitchenette.
The third pavilion, the Main Suite, has a king bed and bath and living room.
Lavender Hill is centrally located in Sonoma County and can be reached in under an hour from the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge. It’s location provides easy access to highly rated restaurants of Sebastopol, Petaluma and Healdsburg, and award winning wineries of the Russian River, Sonoma, Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys and the Sonoma County Airport.
