Caribbean Beachfront Cottage with Private Pool
Year Purchased: 2009
Why the Owner Chose Santa Maria
Vieques has something to offer all beach lovers. I like quiet waters to wade in and Media Luna on Vieques is perfect for that. Mike likes to sit under the palms, drink an adult beverage while he listens to the waves, and Red Beach is perfect for that. My daughter and son-in-law love to snorkel and Silver Beach offers hours of snorkeling adventures. The people of Vieques are great! The Malecon in Esperanza is fun!
The Unique Benefits at this House
Do you want privacy? peacefulness? Then A Barefoot Bungalow is the place for you. Imagine going out at night and slipping into your own private pool, floating on your back and looking up at the stars with no interruptions from neighbors. Or maybe you would prefer sleeping in without hearing someone walking in the apartment above you or below you. This is the tranqulity that A Beachfront Bungalow can offer you. If you have children with you, you don't have to worry about them disturbing the people in the villa next to you. You can choose to take a leisurely stroll on the beach looking for shells and sea glass or snorkel in the waters by the Bungalow. We enjoy waking up and sitting by the seawall looking out over the ocean as the sun rises even before taking a morning shower. You can't do that when you have to worry about your hair first thing in the morning. Imagine the possibilities!
Owner's Map of Santa Maria
My husband, Mike grew up in the quiet town of Houlton, Maine but his family vacationed each year at Wells Beach, Maine. I grew up in Stratford, Connecticut where the beach was always 10 minutes away. We met in San Antonio, while we were each pursuing our individual careers. We both loved the ocean and can't ever get enough of it.

If this was not the place with the most beautiful beaches on earth, we would have been happy to just relax here in this bungalow. It has everything you need or could want for the perfect vacation. Fully furnished kitchen, outdoor cooking and eating space. Super comfortable beds, hammock, lounge chairs, beach chairs, water toys for the pool. I could go on and on. This is the perfect way to experience this beautiful place. Probably the best thing is the view. Great sea glass and shell hunting right out the front door. My husband and I had a wonderful time. We will be back.

The cottage was wonderful. It was right on the beach. They provided plenty of beach and bath towels. The kitchen was stocked with enough cook ware to allow you to cook a meal if you wanted. Everything you would need to go to the beach was provided. The house was very clean and neat. The property manager Aurelio was great. On the way to the house he pointed out points of interest.

We had a lovely stay at this beachfront bungalow. The listing description did not do justice to how nice everything was. It exceeded our expectations. There were plenty of beach and bath towels. The kitchen provided enough utensils for cooking. The house was very clean and well maintained. Micheal and Gail along with the caretaker Aurelio were very friendly and helpful. Answering all of our questions. Also their neighbor Nancy was very friendly and helpful. Not only would I recommend this property to anyone and everyone I plan to make a trip back there. The Bio Bay is a must. Words cannot describe it. We recommend the Vieques Adventure Company with the clear bottom kayaks.
Owner response:We are very happy when our home can help make a guest's vacation a wonderful memory. Aurelio, Mike and I work very hard to make the house somewhere we would want to vacation and it is rewarding to hear our work has paid off. Gail Gordon

Our family vacation on Vieques was everything I had hoped for and more. The beaches were fabulous, one more beautiful than the next. The bungalow was perfect for our stay, very clean and well equipped. The pool was a big plus, relaxing there after a long day at the beach. My grandson had a ball collecting hermit crabs and lizards! He really enjoyed fishing on the beach behind the house. Our biggest decision was whether to turn off the air conditioner and fall asleep listening to the waves or to keep it on and maybe sleep in a little later and not hear the roosters in the morning. Oh to have such problems! Everyone we came into contact with could not have been more friendly and helpful. Aurelio met us at the ferry, there were 5 of us and a lot of bags so he even made arrangements for us to go in a van following him. He showed us around, pointing out restaurants, groceries etc. Very very helpful. The biobay is a must, we will never forget it. Hope to go back someday, I am retired from an airline and have traveled pretty extensively. Vieques is definitely at the top of our list of places we would like to return to. The beachfront bungalow is a great base to explore the island from, would not hesitate to stay there again. If you want a relaxing vacation and a great place to stay, this is it.

My family recently returning from staying in this clean and comfortable barefoot bungalow. The view of the ocean from the covered porch is outstanding. We enjoyed the wonderful pool framed by hibiscus trees and the cottage is well equiped for cooking and relaxing. We ate at the cottage almost every night including getting fresh fish and lobster. The house manager was very accomodating and I hope someday that we can return. It was a very nice vacation and the beaches in Vieques are beautiful

The vacation was everything and more than we hoped it would be. The island and beaches are absolutely beautiful, and the people we met were great! The bungalow was outstanding. We love the location of it, and the views from the patio are unforgettable. Grilling outside around dusk was just awesome! If I were to have any criticism on the bungalow (and this is a small thing) it would be the bathrooms. Maybe an update would be nice. The shower head in the bathroom to the right needs to be replaced or cleaned. Other than that, the place was great! We loved the pool, and really enjoyed eating breakfast each morning on the porch looking out to sea. The house was very clean and in good order. All of the linens were clean and ready to go when we arrive. The pool was also very clean (if we weren't in the ocean, we were in the pool.) Thanks so much for the pina colada mix. We put it to good use! The beaches on the island were the main attraction. We were on the beach everyday and loved it! Aurelio is the man! I'm telling you, that guy is worth his weight in gold! He was there at the airport when we arrived, and was happy to answer any questions we had and was very good about explaining the area around the house to us. We got lost coming back to the house the first night. It was dark and the lack of street signs made it impossible to find the bungalow. We called him to guide us back and he was very patient with us. After unsuccessfully finding the bungalow still, Aurelio of nice enough to guide us to a landmark, come meet us and drive us back to the bungalow. I'm sure he had better things to do on a Sunday evening :) He also got the dish tv fix while we were there, and was nice enough to get us some fresh fish to grill. I really can't say enough about him! Our vacation was wonderful, and we WILL be returning. Thank you so much for letting us stay at your bungalow. It was a blast!

My family had a wonderful stay at this house by the sea. The view is spectacular, the neighborhood and beach are very quiet and the house is quite suitable for a family of five. I especially appreciated the comfortable beds with nice quality pillows and sheets. The owners and caretaker were very helpful before and during our stay. Vieques is a great destination. The beaches on the south side of the island are amazing and the horses roaming the island are quite fun. The Bio Bay is a 'must experience'. I hope to book a return visit sometime.

We spent a memorable week on Vieques Island. The Gordon's home worked beautifully for our family, with views of the Atlantic Ocean, a never ending supply of towels, comfortable beds and outstanding island beaches this is a vacation that we will remember fondly for years to come.

Took my family and in-laws from Sweden for a November break during Thanksgiving weekend. We had a wonderful time and were pleasantly surprised that the house actually looked as seen on the pictures. The bedrooms were fantastic and the bedlinen felt as a 5 star hotell experience. The cleanliness of the house was great and the kids enjoyed the pool at the back. Would love to come back here again, the view was amazing and the breeze from the ocean is something to remember during cold winter months in Sweden. We had some problems with our rental car but the property manager, Aurelio, always helped us out. Aurelio also met us at the airport at our arrival and gave us excellent introduction to the islands restaurants and beaches-many thanks. During the days we went to explore the beaches and during the night we tried some of the restaurants of Esperanza. However, the biggest memory will be the Bio-Bay-fantastic! Hope to see be able to visit this wonderful place again very soon, thanks for a great experience!

Our party of 4 had a great week in Vieques, our 2nd stay on the island. There's nothing like nearly deserted beaches and bays to snorkel and swim. We bought groceries locally and the house had all the hardware to grill and cook with. We went on an all day sailing excursion. Our house was the relaxing home base for all our activites. Be sure you have a car to get around. We were in the ocean in front of the house within an hour of arrival and couldn't get over the sights and sounds of the ocean. Since we traveled lightly, we enjoyed the washer & drier. The pool was a cool break and an quiet place to watch iguanas and crabs. The local manager went above and beyond helping us with our rental car pickup. We are recommending the cottage for 2 couples or families with children and will consider returning in the future. Thanks for a memorable week in the sun.
