This privately owned cottage is located just 70 miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The property has 150 feet of shoreline on beautiful Horseshoe Lake, approximately 5 miles from the town of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin.
Cottage on Horseshoe Lake
We invite you to enjoy our year-round lake cottage for your vacation or weekend getaway. It was newly built and furnished in 2008 and offers 1,200 square feet of living space including 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is also a large, breezy, full-length screened-in porch overlooking the lake -- perfect for dining, reading and relaxing outdoors. A Weber gas grill is provided.
In addition to offering 2 bedrooms (one queen, one full) and a bathroom (with shower), the main level has an open floor plan for the kitchen, dining and living room areas. The entire main level was designed to take advantage of the spectacular lake views. You will also enjoy the gleaming hardwood floors, slate tile accents and custom-built cabinet with gas fireplace. The screen porch provides the perfect setting in which to sip your morning coffee while watching the sun rise over the lake. It's also the ideal spot to read, have a family dinner or listen to the two families of loons that have taken up residence nearby. The upper level includes a spacious recreation area with sleeper sofa, a (queen) bedroom and another bathroom (tub and shower). There is plenty of space for a maximum of 8 people. The cottage is a licensed rental by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Polk County.
Sit out under the stars and recap the day at the lakeside fire-pit. Lawn chairs are provided; firewood is available upon request.
The Lake
Horseshoe Lake is truly a "recreational" lake ideal for summertime activities like boating, water skiing and swimming. Those who like to fish will have fun reeling in Northern, Largemouth Bass, Walleye, Crappies and Sunfish. In the winter, you can enjoy ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and the many miles of snowmobile trails Northwest Wisconsin has to offer.
The Area
Looking for a little night life? The cottage is located just 8 minutes from the Turtle Lake Casino and a full range of slot, dice and card games. There is also a bowling alley and several restaurants and watering holes in Turtle Lake.
The scenic St. Croix Falls/Taylors Falls recreational area is within a 30-minute drive and offers hiking trails, canoeing, boat tours and more. Others in the group may enjoy the movie theaters, miniature golf, flea markets and antique shops. In winter, nearby Wild Mountain offers downhill skiing and snow tubing.
The town of Cumberland is just 20 minutes away and provides many rainy day activities including bowling, a single-screen movie theater, an art gallery/gift shop, antiquing and a pizza parlor located in a restored Victorian mansion.
Golfers can choose from several challenging courses within 30 minutes of the cottage.

Winter Weekend Getaway

My sister and I went to the cabin in January for a relaxing, girl weekend and were so happy with the accomodations. It is beautiful with so many of the comforts of home. We enjoyed the convenient and scenic drive from the Twin Cities and quickly settled into the cabin. While we were there, we hit the casino, went to Cumberland and explored the main street shops, Louie's Meats was worth a stop as well. After a day of exploring, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner; martini's included; at the 5 o'clock in Cumberland. The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing with books in front of the fire place and watching movies. This cabin is set up beautifully to be enjoyed year round. We are both thinking we may need to go back during the summer to enjoy the beach, some fishing and the fire pit.
Recommended for:Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My family and in-laws enjoyed a wonderful stay in August at the cottage. The house is almost brand new. Plenty of room for 7 of us. I was scared with small square footage, but design was great. Two bedrooms downstairs for adults and kids upstairs worked out perfectly. We had wonderful weather...which always helps. Only concern is lack of central A/C. We did not need it, but I think this would be a smart addition. Lake is beautiful. Quite clear. Very quiet during the week. Not overloaded on the weekend. Caught plenty of fish...bass, walleye, and quite a few crappies. Thank you for a great week.

The Cottage on Horseshoe Lake was incredibly welcoming and comfortable. It was perfect for our family--6 adults and 2 small children. We especially enjoyed having our meals on the screened porch and fishing off the dock. Would definitely recommend it to others.

We had a great week at the Cottage on Horseshoe Lake. The pictures don't do it justice! It was incredibly clean and comfortable, with a well stocked kitchen. The upstairs bonus room was a nice place for the kids to hang out separately from the adults. The beachfront was wonderful and we enjoyed the large yard area for lawn games. We had good luck fishing the lake. The owners were easy to work with and the property manager was very helpful. Nothing was missing that we could have needed.
