Some people may not know this, but because San Francisco is on the coast it can be foggy and windy during the summer months. But just north of the Golden Gate Bridge the temperature is typically 10-20 degrees warmer from June through September and NO FOG. Mark Twain once said: "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco." What could be better than sightseeing in chilly (but always lovely) San Francisco, and then thawing out in luxuriously warm and bucolic Fairfax.
Men's Journal recently voted Fairfax one of the best places to live in the U.S. (April 2010). In Fairfax one can "go suburban without settling down." Fairfax “exists in a redwood-and-oak-shaded universe that seems to have been deep-frozen in an epoch when the Grateful Dead would jam on the softball field and Van Morrison and Neil Young would play local bars” (Men’s Journal 2010.) That pretty much sums up the feel of our town (and it's colorful history.)
Our lovely 3,000 sq. ft. home is located just 30 minutes north of San Francisco in the small town of Fairfax. The two communities are worlds apart - from the hustle/bustle of San Francisco to our sanctuary-like home north of the City you can relax at the end of an action-packed day.
Our spacious mini-estate has panoramic views of Mt. Tamalpais and the Marin Watershed. Nestled high in the hills above the charming and whimsical town of Fairfax, this elegant yet comfortable home is located on a private sunny one acre lot. It's perfect for the entire family, or a romantic getaway for two.
This craftsman-style home has been decorated with comfort, attention to detail, and modern appointments throughout. The lovely newly-remodeled living room boasts Brazilian cherry wood floors, Persian carpets, overstuffed sofas, leather recliner chairs, a two-story cathedral ceiling, and floor-to-ceiling windows that make the most of the Mt. Tam view.
The open floor plan that connects the family room and kitchen make the main living area perfect for whipping up something in the fully-stocked gourmet kitchen while the rest of the family watches t.v. or curls up with a good book.
The private master suite has a romantic loft-style bedroom, large dressing/sitting area, and two person walk-in shower with new Grohe massage shower heads and side jets.
For the outdoors enthusiasts our home is within walking distance of miles of trails where you can, quite literally, walk or mountain bike to the ocean if you have the stamina. A block from our home is the beginning of an extensive hiking and biking trail system that encompasses the Marin Watershed and Rancho Tamarancho (mountain bikers - insiders tip).

$1750 week (1 week minimum - no rent increase during holidays).
$500 refundable security deposit.
$150 departure cleaning fee
Cancellation: Full refund if 15 days prior to arrival; 50% refund if 5 days prior;
no refund if cancelled on the date of arrival, or for early departure.

50% deposit of total rental fee to confirm reservation.

Why the Owner Chose Fairfax
Fairfax not only has family history (John's grandmother and great uncle were some of the 1st Italian immigrants in Fairfax), but it has an unbeatable climate and spectacular scenery. Plus the proximity to San Francisco coupled with the seclusion of the home make it the best of both worlds.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Privacy, solitude, rubbing elbows with nature (we occasionally see deer, raccoons, skunks and opossums right over our back fence), gardening, entertaining, and hiking right steps from our back door make this a truly unique home.

Both Laura and John are Bay Area natives, Laura having been born and raised in Sunnyvale, and John in Berkeley. While they've lived in a variety of places, both in the U.S. and abroad, they always come back to the best city in the world.
