Meadowlark, an elegant and contemporary home, is poised like a bird on a hillside of aspen and pine, with its face to the open pastures, the high mountains and the sky.

Built of clear heart redwood on an exposed black steel frame, Meadowlark is a house of simple forms and graceful, open spaces. The entrance is dramatic: the front door opens to a small foyer that steps down into a larger one, and then onto an enclosed bridge with floor-to-ceiling windows, which crosses to the main house.

From the bridge, “floating” stairs climb to an upper level living and dining area where Grand Teton views unfurl and the interior space expands. A smooth wood ceiling rises to a peak over the stylish, spacious room, and doors open to a wide outdoor deck. A remote-controlled granite fireplace illuminates the room; the walls are warm redwood combed with subtle tones of gold; floors are polished, colored concrete.

The long, light-filled kitchen is steps from the dining table; it is masterfully-appointed with top-of-the line appliances - double dishwashers, ovens, sinks and Subzero refrigerators. There is a wonderful Gageneau gas range, custom cherry cabinets, and an ivory granite counter on the sink side that is topped by a band of glass stretching the length of the room. There is a large pantry, and a coffee and cocktail bar. Just through the doorway, the dining room - with its sleek dark table and leather chairs - has eight-foot windows to the north and east. In the dining room, as in the rest of the house, there is an overarching feeling of space and freedom.

Everything at Meadowlark has been carefully considered. Simplicity of form and furnishing allows guests to move easily, breathe freely. The glowing wood walls and wide swaths of glass echo the leafy woods that give way to open space outside. Tall, heavy, cherry veneer doors throughout the house create instant privacy when needed.

From the entry foyer and bridge, a short flight of stairs leads up to the library and a bathroom. The library offers both respite and recreation. An inset, black granite fireplace throws cheer and warmth into the room; a comfortable couch and deep armchairs are paired with well-stocked bookshelves, a library table and a flat-screen TV.

Meadowlark’s four bedrooms are on the lower level of the house, cradled by forest all around. The beautiful master suite has high windows and glass doors that open to a private deck. Here, serenity reigns. The king size bed is topped by a cream-colored quilt, throw and pillows; matching reading lamps and bedside tables stand to each side. The large, luxurious master bath is tiled in creamy Carrera marble. A deep, oval jetted soaking tub waits next to the open marble shower; a marble sink projects from an ample bathroom counter. Outside on the deck, inviting lounge chairs face the fragrant woods. The three guest bedrooms are each tidy and calm; low, dark wood frames hold plush white bedding. There are convenient reading lights, roomy armoires and large windows.

One bedroom has a private bath; the other two share a bathroom between them. Throw rugs soften the cool, smooth floors. Meadowlark’s laundry room is on the lower level as well, so that clothes need not be carried from floor to floor.

Meadowlark is set in a quiet neighborhood, though it feels private, secluded, even remote. This is a place both light-hearted and peaceful, its huge windows in accord with the great, green-gold woods. The property borders a conversation easement, giving it a protected peace and views that unfold to infinity. The house also overlooks the Puzzleface Ranch, whose pastures are home to horses in the summer months; winter brings wild birds like geese and trumpeter swans to the ponds and long golden fields. Halfway between Jackson and Wilson, Meadowlark is just a short drive from fine restaurants, theatres, galleries and shopping, and the ski slopes and endless outdoor adventures for which Jackson Hole is so famous
.
Grand Teton National Park is minutes away; you can set out right from the door for biking, hiking, cross country skiing or snowshoeing.Meadowlark is in a perfect location for escapades and exploration, on your own or with a guide who can lead you Wyoming’s wealth of staggeringly beautiful streams, mountain peaks, secret trails and deep, pristine wilderness; the best that America has to offer.
