CONGRATULATIONS!
You have persisted in your search for a special vacation experience and now you have been rewarded with finding one of the truly wonderful, dare I say magical places in the United States. Your search is almost over.
There are very few places like Ocracoke left on the East Coast. Like everything, it is not for everybody. If you need glitz and glamour and lots of action when you travel then you need to keep looking. However, if what you desire is a place near the ocean with not too many people, where you can be one with nature, yet not be totally removed from civilization, then Ocracoke just might be the place for you.
You’ve made it this far on VRBO and doubtless will check out the other houses on Ocracoke. Rather than reiterate all that they say regarding the island and the beach and birds and fishing and biking, etc. Know that it is all true and more! Know that you have found a very special place.
Regarding our house, it has been described as a, “… beautifully decorated rental with a fantastic upside down design with cathedral ceilings, gourmet kitchen and a screened dining porch which adds to the relaxation.” We designed and built “Stargazer” a little over ten years ago. On a clear night, go outside on one of the five decks, look up, and you will see what very few people in this country ever get to see and will also understand how she got her name.
On the first floor, you enter into a nice entry hall that overlooks the front yard. The three bedrooms are all on this floor. Two contain queen beds, and the third is for kids with a bunk style single, full and trundle bed. The master has its own bath and a private entrance that leads down to the outdoor shower. The other two bedrooms share a bath. The front bedroom also has its own private porch. There is a laundry room on this floor.
The second floor is where the house really shines. It is a wide open floor plan with kitchen, dining area and living area that are all open to each other under a cathedral ceiling. Pictures don’t do it justice. There are many large windows with expansive long range views (including marsh and sound) and lots of light. There is much local art on the walls and there is an extensive music CD collection. There is also a half bath on this level.
The house has hardwood floors upstairs and carpeting on the first floor. We have endeavored to keep it a comfortable and inviting haven from a busy world.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1997
We're two people that just love Ocracoke. We live in the North, but we've been coming to the Outer Banks since the 1950's and hope to retire here soon. We love the water, the beauty and peace of this island, the pace of life in the South.
Why the Owner Chose Ocracoke
We built our house on Ocracoke because we love it here. As the real estate agent that sold us the land said, "...don't buy here strictly for investment. For most people it is an emotional buy." We couldn't agree with her more.
